Chapter 5 - The Fairies Who Fell

She found the remains of another fairy, broken-winged and long forgotten. A journal laid nearby, filled with stories of fear, hope, and ultimately despair. As Lucky read her face went from happy to scared, scared to fear, but she kept reading the journal and didn't care what's happening around her. After she was done reading the journal she put it in her bag and walked over to the dead fairy and prayed. She dug a hole and slowly put the fairy inside and buried them with a blossom of a glowroot.

"You didn't fail, you didn't have someone walking with you and someone who cares with you. I hope that you find your way home and live happily. I hope to see you soon." Said Lucky. She looks over at Gleam, shining brighter than before. "You do because I'm with you and you're with me and we both care about each other." Gleam said. As Gleam and Lucky keeps walking through the forest they see a lake that looks like the stars.

An ancient mirror sits on a stone pillar in the middle of the lake. The mirror does not have a reflection but it shows a vision of the future. Lucky saw herself leading a charge of light against a great shadow. Another version of herself showed that she lost, her wings broken and calling for help that never came. She turned away from the mirror. "The future's not written for me yet. I'll write my own future with every step."

Marla reappeared unexpectedly; her eyes full of storm. "The deeper you go, the more of your magic will change. Light will burn too Lucky." Lucky nodded "I'll burn if I have to. But only for what's right. If I start to burn for what's wrong I'll make sure it burns first." Marla gave her a pouch of midnight seeds. "Plant these when you have no hope left. They will bloom in despair." "What if I don't lose all hope then what?'' "They will bloom in pure happiness see you next time Lucky."

As Lucky keeps wondering deep in the forest. She sees an injured sliver stag it's caught in a trap of shadowsteel. It cries for help. Lucky helps it get out of the trap. It speaks in a voice like winter winds. "You walk the edge of fate. Know this: not every dark thing wishes to harm you and not every light thing means you well." It vanished, but an antler left for her shimmers on the ground as a gift.

Lucky picks it up and puts it in her pack. "Thank you for the warning and the gift." As Lucky smiles and continues through the forest.
