Meanwhile back at Luminara, something terrible had happened. Edge of the Glade had cracked, as if a giant hand had ripped open the sky. Lucky and Ember rushed to get to them in time, but they were late and they couldn't stop it. Creatures of shadow pouring into the Glade, first it started out faint then it grew stronger and fiercer with every second that goes by. The Elders are still questioning what happened to Queen Lumina, and the Elders stood helpless. As Lucky and Ember get inside the main hall where everyone is hiding and scared. As Lucky and Ember enter the main hall everyone turned and stared at Lucky, not that she was perfect but because she was willing.
As the shadow-creatures attacked the edge of the Luminara, Lucky rallied the fairies, glowroot guardians, and even the thornling clan. "Today we fight to push back the shadow-creatures and retake the glade to battle!" Everyone followed Lucky to battle as she's in front leading the charge. As they fought beneath the pale sunrise, wings clashed with smoke, spells lit the sky, and Lucky glowing with fire and starlight. When the battle ended, the forest was scarred but still standing. Queen Lumina is still missing, the council begged Lucky to lead, but she refused "I'm not here to rule, I'm here to protect." Instead, she appointed a circle of voices-fairies from different walks of life, including Thistle and even a reformed shadow sprite named Ink.
The Glade had never seen such unity before, after Lucky appointed people she left to follow Marla's trail into the Northwoods, where snow fell like silence. On the spot where she finds ashes, burned runs and a single boot, Ember warms up the ruins and reveals a hidden crystal. Inside it: a flickering image of Marla trapped and still alive-but fading, "I'm coming," whispered Lucky. Lucky's palm glowed brighter as her Starborn mark started to evolve, a new power surged through her: Glimpses of the future, bursts of time- slowing magic, and even the ability to mend dying things. But it came at a cost, she started to hear voices in the stars, warning her, guiding her and even questioning her. Lucky needs to find the key to save Marla from her prison as Lucky and Ember search for the key, they find a map of where the is as they look at it, it shows it's in the Mirrorwoods, a forest of reflective trees that showed twisted versions of others. As they head to the Mirrorforest the voices in the stars are yelling at her and questioning her on her decision on going to the Mirrorwoods.
As they get to the Mirrorwoods Lucky sees a cruel version of her, a heartless version of her, and a broken version of her. Lucky goes up to each one and embraces them and she tells them "You're a part of me, But I choose who I become." After she says that the mirrors shatter and opened a path into an ancient tree. Hidden under the roots of the ancient tree, Lucky found a library of the first fairies. Books whispered, scrolls glowed, and a sentient quill offered advice, Lucky accepted and she sat and listened to the quill. She learns that the shadows invading had a name: Umbrael-a fallen Starborn who chose corruption over harmony, he was once like her. After the quill tells her everything Lucky stands up and bows and thanks the quill, and she goes deeper in the library to find anything to help free Marla.
As Lucky and Ember look they find ancient runes and use it and the library guides them to Marla's prison. It's a floating orb of smoke, and anchored to the canyon of clouds. Lucky uses her light magic, her love and finally her last emberfruit to free Marla, as she does it, Marla breaks free just in time. "You grew," whispered Marla, weak but proud "and so did your heart." Grateful for her rescue, Marla gives Lucky a rare gift: her own pact of shadows and tampered by love. It lets Lucky blend light and darkness, turning fear into courage and wounds into wisdom, Thornling spirits and phoenix fire danced in her wake. As they are in the library, they hear a thunderous boom from the sky that just cracked. Streaks of starlight fall from burning holes through the air, Lucky realizes what's happening and rushes outside and sees that the boundary between two worlds is thinning. Umbrael wasn't just invading the forest, he was preparing to rewrite reality.
