"Viktor, please trust me just this once!" Lin Mo clasped his hands together, pleading earnestly, though feeling quite helpless in his heart.
"Viktor, please trust me just this once!"
Lin Mo clasped his hands together, pleading earnestly, though feeling quite helpless in his heart.
In Night City, it was probably only Viktor, this cyberware doctor, who still had a good heart and could think of his clients.
If it were any other cyberware doctor in the city, even if they thought a young kid like Lin Mo implanting a Sandevistan was a death wish, as long as there was money to be made, they wouldn't care much.
None of them would be as concerned about him as Viktor was.
"Kid, do you know how many patients I've seen over the years, mercenaries wanting to implant combat cyberware?" Viktor said, his tone a mix of frustration and care. "Cyberware isn't a toy; you can't just implant it on a whim and discard it when you're done."
"When you first came to me to implant the smart hand connection, I thought you might take this path, but I didn't stop you. I hoped you would continue, but I also advised you to take things step by step," Viktor said, shaking his head.
Lin Mo mumbled, "Didn't you advise me to implant some combat cyberware back then?"
The implication was why was he rejecting him now?
Viktor sighed, took a screwdriver, and adjusted his external cyberhand, speaking in a calm tone:
"I understand the rules of the street. If you're in this line of work, you need some powerful cyberware, or you might end up in an alley somewhere. But I'm clear-headed. Things have to be done step by step. You haven't even implanted basic combat cyberware yet, and you're jumping straight into something like this. Even those from the Anti-Terrorism Unit don't act this recklessly."
Lin Mo leaned against the table, standing still in place.
He couldn't find any excuse to explain his sudden actions now.
He couldn't exactly say that implanting a Sandevistan depended on reaction attributes, and that Viktor should just wait and watch while I demonstrate my abilities.
Seeing this, North Kawahiro, standing at the door, couldn't help but try to defend Lin Mo:
"Doctor, please believe in Lin-kun. His talent can definitely handle the side effects of these two implants. As long as he uses the Sandevistan properly, Lin-kun will be fine."
Viktor turned his head and glanced at North Kawahiro, pausing for a moment to recall something, his expression softening slightly:
"How's your sister's recovery going?"
"Thanks to your help, doctor, she's doing just fine. By the way, here's the payment I owe you from last time," North Kawahiro quickly stood up, bowed slightly, and transferred the payment.
Viktor waved his hand dismissively, "If you're tight on money, don't pay me back so soon. Think about your sister; buy some supplements for her health."
"Thank you for your concern, doctor. My sister's recovery is good, and I've taken on quite a few jobs this week, so money's not an issue," North Kawahiro replied.
Seeing that Viktor's mood had lightened, Lin Mo also took the opportunity to say:
"Viktor, about my cyberware..."
Viktor stared at him for a while, furrowing his brow, as if engaged in an internal struggle.
After a long pause, he sighed deeply and gave his final advice:
"Kid, I've said all I needed to say. If you insist on getting the implant, I won't stop you. I know that even if I don't implant it for you now, once you leave here, you'll probably find some other unknown cyberware doctor to implant it."
Viktor's expression became serious, almost stern.
"Are you sure you want to implant this cyberware? Are you sure you won't regret it?"
Lin Mo nodded solemnly, "This is my decision. I won't regret it."
In fact, if Viktor didn't help him implant this cyberware, Lin Mo wasn't really inclined to go to some unknown cyberware doctor for the Sandevistan implant.
After all, if the cyberware malfunctioned, the best option for repairs and maintenance was always to go back to the doctor who originally implanted it.
As for Liu Ruoying... she wasn't even in Lin Mo's consideration. He could never get past Xu Wanxue's concerns.
It seemed that Viktor saw Lin Mo's determination and sighed, standing up and kicking the swivel chair, expertly rolling it next to the operating table.
"I understand what you young people are thinking. You always want to make a big name for yourself. Jack was the same. But if you ask me, sometimes you have to give up those useless fantasies to live better in Night City."
He pointed to the operating table and gestured for Lin Mo to lie down. "Go ahead."
Lin Mo swiftly lay on the bed.
Viktor rummaged through the nearby instrument table for a moment and then pulled out a pneumatic syringe, injecting it into his left hand. He then adjusted his left hand, and the external cyberhand moved in sync.
—Neuro-stimulation injection, to enhance the body's sensitivity to the cyberware.
Lin Mo immediately recognized the purpose of this injection.
For any delicate operation involving trauma, Viktor would use this to enhance neural activity and improve the precision when operating the cyberhand.
"I'll say it again," Viktor said patiently, "With your age, after implanting this cyberware, you can only use it 1 to 2 times a day. If you experience symptoms like nosebleeds, dizziness, or nausea, it means you've overused it and need to rest before using it again."
Viktor continued explaining the precautions carefully.
"Of course, if you're in a dangerous situation and need to use it, then it'll be up to you to decide. But if you force yourself to use it while overloaded, you'll inevitably fall into a coma. Remember that."
Lin Mo nodded solemnly, "I understand."
Viktor connected a biological monitoring device to Lin Mo's neural socket, and Lin Mo's detailed body data appeared on the screen.
"You implanted all these other cyberware this morning?" Viktor looked shocked.
Even with his many years of experience, he couldn't quite comprehend it.
Why would someone implant other cyberware earlier in the day and then immediately come here for another one?
"Since you've already chosen your cyberware doctor, why come to me?" Viktor asked in confusion.
"It's because I trust your skills, old man," Lin Mo teased with a smile.
Viktor let out a soft laugh, clearly not buying it, "These cyberware, even if only a small part is implanted, are enough to cover the rent for my small shop for several years."
"I'll explain later. Viktor, I trust you won't go back on your word now," Lin Mo said with mock innocence.
"You... Just lie down. I'll start right away. I'll give you anesthesia, just sleep for a while," Viktor said.
Lin Mo turned onto his stomach, showing his muscular back. Viktor prepared the appropriate dose of anesthesia and injected it into Lin Mo's body.
Lin Mo quickly fell asleep.
Meanwhile, North Kawahiro, standing by the door, coughed a few times and quietly said:
"Doctor, I'll wait outside. After Lin-kun finishes the implant, I'll come back in. I might need your help to adjust my own cyberware later."
Viktor didn't even turn his head, simply replying, "Mm."
