Sitting on the steps in the alley, Lin Mo absentmindedly fiddled with the katana in his hands, his thumb occasionally pressing against the sword guard to slide the blade out a little, then releasing his thumb to slide it back into its sheath.
The soft ringing sound of the blade being drawn and sheathed echoed in the alley from time to time.
A few homeless people and thugs lingering in the alley cast wary glances at the seemingly impatient young man. While there was a slight displeasure at the noise disturbing them, none dared to approach and ask the young man to quiet down.
After implanting transplanted muscles and organic dense bones, Lin Mo's physique had inevitably grown more muscular, though he still maintained the "slim when dressed, muscular when undressed" fit body.
In terms of build, this kid wouldn't typically be enough to make the homeless or thugs worry. No matter how strong one's physique, it was still just flesh and bone; anyone with a knife could easily cut through those seemingly solid muscles and pierce into the body.
In places like this, where chaos reigned, even the gentlest of people would hide a knife under their bed.
Those more ruthless might even keep a worn-out handgun hidden.
Food and territory were always fought for with blood!
Anyone who could occupy a place to sleep under a roof in such an alley, protected from the rain and wind by the buildings on either side, had the guts to pull a knife or stab someone if needed.
The young man, appearing innocent and naive, looked like a child who didn't know the world.
But in the eyes of the thugs and homeless, he was no different from a tiger that had suddenly entered their territory—these little rabbits and puppies dared not touch the tiger's whiskers.
Clang!
Another crisp sound of a blade being drawn echoed, as the idle vagrants and unemployed people in the alley seemed to hear the light ringing of water droplets falling or a stone striking.
In the dim alley, blue-green light shimmered, and a crescent moon appeared and disappeared in an instant.
People heard the sound but didn't see the blade; they stared in a daze as the blade was still in its sheath, its cold gleam fading completely.
In Lin Mo's indifferent gaze, a fly that had been sliced in half slowly fell to the ground, with a lethal intent condensed in that brief moment.
Seeing this, a few thugs and homeless men were even more terrified and quickly stood up, patting their butts and moving away from the area, afraid that the young man might mistake them for annoying flies and slice them too.
"I have to admit, the saying 'the rich rely on technology, the poor rely on mutation' is quite accurate."
Lin Mo sighed, his gaze still fixed on the flies and mosquitoes buzzing around him.
In his eyes, these once swift and elusive pests now moved as slowly as if they were crawling.
This was the effect of the Krencikov—passively enhancing his neural reflex speed.
Though he didn't have the simulator with him, Lin Mo estimated that his reaction attributes had probably increased by 1-2 points, and his physical attributes had at least reached 6.
In addition, Krencikov had another function—under stress, it triggered an enhanced neural reflex speed several times over, known as "pseudo-time slowdown," lasting 1-2 seconds.
As for the Sandevistan implanted in his medulla oblongata, though he hadn't tried it yet, Lin Mo was confident that:
When he activated the Sandevistan, he would be fully capable of slicing the annoying flies into multiple pieces of fly sashimi!
However, even though Lin Mo was eagerly anticipating it, he calmly resisted the urge to waste his precious opportunity on such trivial things.
With another swift motion, the cold blade flashed, and another innocent fly fell from mid-air.
Around him, the ground was already littered with countless fly carcasses.
Since implanting his cyberware, Lin Mo had been testing his reaction speed by playing this game for quite a while, yet he still found it endlessly enjoyable.
It wasn't about anything else; it was simply the joy of seeing his power improve by leaps and bounds. He had now fully entered the melee combat style from the game—Time Stop Swordmaster Style!
Recalling the scenes in the game where the protagonist, V, casually killed enemies in time-stop mode, Lin Mo knew he couldn't move as effortlessly as a max-level V, but he still felt like he could embody a bit of that "kill one person with ten steps, leaving no trace a thousand miles away" vibe.
Damn, I can't think about this anymore. The more I think about it, the more excited I get. I just have this urge to find someone to slice up.
Lin Mo took a few deep breaths, calming himself as he sat on the steps, his gaze fixed on the staircase leading to the basement entrance.
His operation was over, but North Kawahiro, who had been guarding the door, went back inside, saying that the commission would inevitably involve a bloody battle and that he needed to have Viktor check and repair the cyberware on his body.
With nothing else to do, Lin Mo took out five injection vials from his pocket and examined them closely.
These were five immune suppressants, which could suppress the body's rejection of foreign cyberware.
During the early stages after implanting cyberware, these drugs were as essential as nitroglycerin for a heart patient, always needed until the body no longer rejected the cyberware.
However, some edge-dwellers, in order to enhance their power, would implant new cyberware into their bodies at every opportunity, and the high degree of cyberization left their bodies struggling to keep up.
For them, these drugs became something they needed to take every day, like candy.
According to Viktor's advice, Sandevistan and Krencikov were among the most taxing cyberware on the body.
These immune suppressants likely wouldn't be enough for the body to fully adapt, and when they ran out, Lin Mo would have to return for more.
"Why is it so simple in the game for the protagonist to install cyberware like eating and drinking, but here it feels so restricted?" Lin Mo sighed, disgruntled.
Though he said this, Lin Mo still obediently followed the doctor's advice and injected one of the vials into his arm.
Viktor had said to inject once every half hour, and North Kawahiro had just gone into the clinic half an hour ago.
As Lin Mo prepared to play the fly-killing game again, the electric iron gate of the basement finally opened.
North Kawahiro walked out, looking refreshed, as if he had just had a full-body treatment at a massage parlor, his face full of relaxation.
However, when he stepped out and saw the numerous dead flies around Lin Mo, he fell into deep thought.
"So, how was it? Did Viktor say anything to you?" Lin Mo stood up, brushing off the dust.
North Kawahiro snapped out of his reverie and replied, "He said some of my cyberware was outdated, so he helped me maintain and upgrade it. He also introduced me to a few good combat cyberwares, but I don't have the money now."
No money. The three words sounded pitiful, but when spoken by North Kawahiro, it felt like the most normal thing.
Girls should be raised with wealth, and with such a sister-con brother, he probably spent most of his money on her.
Lin Mo looked at him sympathetically, walked over, and patted North Kawahiro on the shoulder, kindly reminding him: "Actually, if you're short on cash, you can borrow from me."
"No, no, no, I can't trouble you, Lin-kun," North Kawahiro immediately refused.
"No, it's not a trouble. It's helping me solve a problem, because if you don't borrow money from me, I have no place to spend it," Lin Mo said truthfully.

PS: I casually made a cover for Rebecca, didn't expect it to actually pass... it's really rough.
