"Lin-kun, are you planning to implant these two pieces of cyberware into yourself?"
After they stepped out of the door, North Kawahiro finally spoke, his brow furrowed as he asked Lin Mo.
Lin Mo held the bag in his hand, glancing sideways at North Kawahiro. With a slight smile, he asked, "Is there a problem with that?"
"If we're talking about problems, I shouldn't interfere with your decision, but considering your age, are you sure you can handle the side effects of these two cyberware implants?" North Kawahiro asked seriously.
In the increasingly cybernetic world today, while implanting cyberware had become a common procedure, it was still not as simple as eating or drinking.
Taking too many medications can harm the body, and implanting a mechanical object that doesn't belong to your body is an entirely different matter.
Lin Mo shook the bag in his hand lightly and responded with a casual tone, yet with an inner confidence that radiated from him:
"If I can't handle the side effects of these two cyberware, then there's no one in this world who could."
His eyes were fixed on the two implants inside the bag, his expression calm, like the proudest warrior facing the devil's tempting gift—he didn't fall for it but took all the gifts and then kicked the devil away.
After his conversation with his sister that evening, Lin Mo had learned a lot of secrets about cyberware and also obtained data from the simulator's database.
With both sources of information combined, Lin Mo now had enough confidence to say that he thoroughly understood the benefits and dangers of these two implants.
Compared to the data and reports that Xu Wanxue had painstakingly gathered, the simulator's database provided clear and straightforward information, presenting everything simply and effectively.
[Dinara Sandevistan Type 3]
Description: The latest third-generation Sandevistan cyberware produced by Dinara Corp. It uses the most advanced neural enhancement technology to optimize user experience and physical sensation.
For this generation of Sandevistan, the designers at Dinara Corp adopted a unique approach. It retained the previous generation's time-slowing technology, rather than using the latest version.
This bold innovation resulted in the time-slowing function having an average reduction of only 50%, but the maximum duration was extended to 16 seconds, and the cooling time was reduced to 15 seconds, far exceeding all similar Sandevistan models on the market.
It also includes a muscle tension enhancement system that increases the user's muscle tension by an average of 25% when activated.
Usage Requirements: 12 points of reaction attribute.
If the attribute requirement is not met, the cyberware's side effects cannot be fully avoided.
Current Reaction Attribute: 10. If activated, time reduction will be 25%. Recommended usage: 13 times per day.
After the simulation ended, one of the rewards was information about this Sandevistan implant. Once loaded into the database, Lin Mo gained access to all the relevant data.
He had no reason to distrust the simulator's information. It was almost as if reality was being displayed in the form of data, simple and clear at a glance.
Despite Lin Mo's confident appearance, North Kawahiro still seemed worried.
"Lin-kun, having confidence isn't a bad thing, but I still hope you'll weigh whether you have enough control over it," North Kawahiro said seriously.
"Speed and neural reaction implants—these two pieces of cyberware are treasures that almost every edge-dweller covets. They provide a massive boost in combat power, but they're also a double-edged sword. The higher the model, the more cautious people tend to be with them," he continued.
Lin Mo became curious—was it possible that North Kawahiro understood these things so well?
"How do you know all this?" Lin Mo asked, his curiosity getting the best of him.
North Kawahiro looked ahead, his gaze distant, as if his thoughts were elsewhere.
"It's from an old friend. Lin-kun must be familiar with the Tiger Claw Gang. Many of their members are fond of using katana. For these types of close-range weapons, to maximize their lethal potential, they must implant Sandevistan," he explained.
Lin Mo suddenly understood.
In the game, a few enemies who specialized in close-range combat included the Tiger Claw Gang ninjas, who teleported next to the player with a katana to slash, and the bulky men from the Animal Gang who attacked with their fists.
But without exception, these melee enemies were often the first to die.
The real trouble came from the Biotechnical Anti-Terrorism Unit agents, each of whom had a Sandevistan implanted. Some of the more underhanded agents would silently teleport next to the player and fire a shotgun into their back. If the player wasn't careful, they could die almost instantly.
The Sandevistan cyberware was powerful because it slowed down the perception of time for the user while allowing them to retain their normal speed.
But the truth was, the effectiveness of any piece of equipment depended on its user. If you could get stronger, then those with greater talent would only grow even stronger when using it, never weaker.
Just like the Sandevistan Type 3, with a time reduction of only 50%, but according to the database, Lin Mo could reduce it to 25% when using it himself.
Seeing Lin Mo's "I see now" expression, North Kawahiro thought his advice had taken effect and quickly added:
"Lin-kun, in my experience, anyone who abuses the Sandevistan ends up suffering horribly from its side effects."
Lin Mo felt helpless, silently thinking that it was because those people didn't have the talent to meet the cyberware's requirements.
North Kawahiro continued earnestly, "You're skilled with a katana, so implanting the Sandevistan shouldn't be a problem. But from now on, don't overuse it."
"I'll be careful," Lin Mo replied reluctantly.
"Good, that's all I wanted to hear," North Kawahiro nodded.
Seeing that North Kawahiro had finally stopped trying to convince him, Lin Mo let out a sigh of relief.
Perhaps North Kawahiro's strong aversion to the Sandevistan was because he had seen too many tragic cases. For Lin Mo's safety, he had tried his best to warn him.
Lin Mo had his own doubts now.
Because nearly everyone he knew who was familiar with the Sandevistan seemed to think it was severely damaging to the body.
If that was really the case...
Lin Mo couldn't shake the uneasy feeling forming in his chest.
...
...
Lin Mo's unease turned out to be well-founded.
Chinatown, Bran Street, Spirit House "Misty's Secrets," Back Alley Basement Clinic.
"No, absolutely not! Do you even understand the dangers of this cyberware? Do you really think this thing is a toy that you can just implant whenever you want?"
The clinic was dimly lit, with an operating table in the center, surrounded by surgical lights and various parts scattered around the walls.
To the right of the entrance, there was a desk with a display screen and red light tubes embedded above the wall.
The screen was currently showing a boxing match, and Viktor, the doctor, sat in a small rotating chair, glaring at the visitor with an impatient expression.
He was dressed in his usual blue worker's uniform, looking rugged and muscular, wearing a pair of sunglasses, and his left hand was fitted with an external surgical cyberarm.
Lin Mo stood silently in front of Viktor, like a child being scolded by their parents, but deep down, he felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness.
Other people didn't have simulators like him, nor did they understand the relationship between attributes and cyberware.
At his current age, implanting the Sandevistan was seen as reckless in Viktor's eyes.
