The next day, as the sky was just beginning to brighten and the sun hadn't yet risen from behind the mountains, the entire world was still shrouded in darkness, the dawn yet to come.
Lin Mo, for once, woke up early. The simulator had given him a demonstration last night.
Rather than being woken up halfway through his sleep by Xu Wanxue, he thought it was better to wake up on his own, at least to leave a good impression.
And as expected, when Xu Wanxue saw Lin Mo standing in the kitchen cooking breakfast early in the morning, just after she had gotten up, she looked at him in shock and exclaimed, "The sun has come up from the west!"
Heaven must be pitying him—this little demon actually got up early!
She couldn't help but wonder why he had done this, eventually linking it to their emotional hug and heartfelt conversation from the night before.
Could it be that this rare moment of affection and heart-to-heart made him realize he should mature a little and not make her, his sister, worry?
With that thought in mind, Xu Wanxue walked up behind Lin Mo and gave him another hug.
Her long hair flowed smoothly down her back, her head resting on Lin Mo's shoulder. Her loose nightgown couldn't hide her graceful curves, and despite her slim figure, she still had a sense of fullness—like a begonia flower touched by morning dew, graceful even in the early morning light.
Lin Mo showed no reaction, calmly turning around, lifting Xu Wanxue in his arms, and walking back to her room, tossing her onto the bed like a piece of cargo before calmly closing the door.
"Go back to sleep!"
Xu Wanxue stood there in a daze, staring at the door, utterly confused.
After breakfast, Xu Wanxue poured herself a cup of hot coffee to wake herself up.
She sat on the rattan chair on the balcony, the warm morning breeze brushing her hair and lightly fluttering the loose lace nightgown she wore. The soft fabric swayed with the breeze, and her elegant figure was reflected in the swimming pool beside her. The water gently rippled in the sunlight, creating a perfect picture of a spring morning.
Lin Mo, however, showed no interest in the beautiful scene. He leaned against the railing, staring intently at a small black dot on the horizon.
The black dot, under his watch, gradually grew larger and transformed into a massive dark-colored unmanned aerial vehicle, its four jet exhausts spewing blue tail flames as it adjusted its balance in midair before slowly landing in their driveway.
Xu Wanxue observed Lin Mo, her retina displaying a pop-up window for verification.
Without her clearance, the drone would have been shot down by the house's security system the moment it entered the estate's airspace.
Closing the window, she kept her gaze on Lin Mo, momentarily seeing him transform back into the child he once was. After buying him his favorite things, he always stared at them the same way.
Sighing to herself, Xu Wanxue thought, Other people's children like the newest toys or the latest virtual games...
But him... he had always liked things like the children's versions of guns, samurai swords, and other violent toys, even secretly building his own private base.
"What are you standing there for? Don't you want to go see the treasure your beautiful, charming sister bought for you?" Xu Wanxue scolded teasingly when she saw Lin Mo still standing there without moving.
Lin Mo turned to glance at her, then returned his gaze to the front gate.
After last night's simulation, he knew a cybernetic doctor would be coming over, so rushing to see the biological components didn't hold much significance.
Still, he casually responded to Xu Wanxue's teasing, and his words made her heart skip a beat:
"My only treasure now is you, sister. Don't say things like that."
"Ugh, gross," Xu Wanxue pretended to gag, grabbing the nearby water gun and aiming it at Lin Mo.
Lin Mo glanced at her again, too lazy to continue the nonsense. He braced himself against the railing and nimbly jumped over it to avoid the water gun, landing on the ground below in the blink of an eye.
Xu Wanxue rushed to the railing, and upon seeing that Lin Mo wasn't injured, she let out a sigh of relief, but the anger quickly surged within her.
"Are you trying to die? Don't do such dangerous things next time!" she shouted in anger.
Lin Mo didn't turn around, casually waving his hand and walking toward the mansion's dark golden gate.
At that moment, Xu Wanxue, standing on the second-floor balcony, noticed a dark gray sports car slowly approaching their house.
It was a Mizutani Sun MZ2, a high-performance two-door sports car, one of the most common sports cars in Night City, loved by many middle-class company employees.
"Looks like she's here," Xu Wanxue said, leaning on the railing and brushing her hair that the wind had tousled.
At the gate, before Lin Mo could open it, the sports car outside honked impatiently. The owner didn't seem to care that the horn might disturb the neighborhood, continuing to blare noise outside.
Lin Mo pressed the button to open the door, and the dark golden gates slowly swung open.
The sports car, as if receiving the signal, sped past Lin Mo with a swift roar, kicking up a gust of wind.
The car drifted several times on the spacious estate road, never losing speed until it smoothly parked in the open-air parking lot.
"Are you trying to die?! Playing with your driving skills at my house!" Xu Wanxue angrily yelled.
Xu Wanxue had somehow already changed into a sharp, elegant suit, adding a touch of heroism to her appearance. Her long hair, tied in a ponytail, swayed as she walked.
The Mizutani Sun MZ2's doors opened upward, the LED lights faintly glowing with a sci-fi vibe.
Then came a pair of legs, wearing crystal high heels, rising high under the morning sun, highlighting their fair and smooth skin. Following them was a thick white lab coat and fiery red curly hair, with bangs slightly covering her eyebrows. She wore sunglasses, exuding a strong, confident aura.
The woman stepped out of the car, her movements graceful and elegant, but the next moment, the scene shattered that perfect image.
As soon as she stepped out of the car, she hurried to the side of the lawn, feeling dizzy, and began dry-heaving.
"Damn, that's my lawn!" Xu Wanxue roared in anger.
Fortunately, the woman didn't actually vomit. She just felt a little carsick from the drifting and quickly recovered after a few dry heaves.
She took off her sunglasses and put them in her pocket, turned to Xu Wanxue, and grinned.
"It's been a while, Xue. It's rare that you invited me over."
Xu Wanxue twitched her eye, disgusted. "If it weren't for my brother needing these bio-components, I wouldn't have wanted you here."
"Let's not talk about that. Where's your brother?"
The woman waved her hand dismissively, clearly trying to brush off the little incident, her eyes scanning around as if looking for today's main character.
"Hello, nice to meet you. I'm Lin Mo, glad to meet you, Auntie."
Lin Mo stepped forward from the gate.
Sunlight streamed across him, half his face in the light and the other half in shadow, his warm smile making his face look as if it were bathed in the early spring sun, serene and beautiful.
No one could resist this naturally charming face, and this woman was no exception. The moment her vision caught Lin Mo's face, her cybernetic eye zoomed in, magnifying his face eight times, as though trying to imprint it in her mind.
When Lin Mo stepped up to her and politely extended his hand, she snapped back to reality.
"Hello, I'm Liu Ruoying, Chief Cybernetic Expert at Qian Ti Corporation," she smiled brightly, her eyes eagerly fixed on Lin Mo as she stepped forward and tightly grasped his hand.
"I hope it's not too forward, but... would you marry me?"
