Chapter 45 - Chapter 44: Calm as Still Water, Moving Like Thunder

[Simulation Starts]

[In the morning, as you are still lying in bed enjoying a good sleep, your sister kicks you awake for being lazy.]

[You groggily open your eyes and realize it's only 6 AM. Why do you have to wake up so early?]

[Your sister responds that the breakfast you made the other day was actually pretty good. She hasn't seen you cook in years, so she insists you get up and make her breakfast as a reward.]

[You have no choice but to get up early, cook breakfast, and feed your sister until she's full.]

[After eating, you feel sleepy again, but the day is young and there's no time to waste. You decide to go outside and get some exercise, hoping to start the day fresh.]

[Your idea is good, but reality is harsh. You are commanded by your sister to wash the dishes, and you must do it by hand.]

[You're confused. Don't we have a dedicated dishwashing robot at home? Why do you have to wash the dishes?]

[Your sister answers, "Spend more time at home with me. Is that too much to ask?"]

[You give in, obediently going to the kitchen to wash the dishes. Halfway through, you suddenly hear a deep jet sound outside, the sound of a hovering transport vehicle's engine.]

[You run outside in confusion and see the biological components being delivered to your home. You are ecstatic.]

[During this time, you meet a cyberware doctor named Victor Vektor, and she seems quite interested in you.]

[You have a pleasant interaction.]

[However, since these components need time to be fully implanted, you cannot immediately replace all your bio-components. She only implants a small portion of your cyberware.]

[You aren't disappointed. After the procedure, you ask your sister for permission to leave.]

[Your sister doesn't stop you. She gives you a hug and lets you go.]

[Laughing out loud as you leave, you think to yourself: "We are not some insignificant people!" You feel free, like a dragon returning to the sea or an eagle soaring across the sky. After gaining your freedom, your first thought is to experience the joy of that freedom.]

[You drive the Rayfield Excalibur, the most powerful legal road vehicle in Night City, one of the best vehicles in the game. You sit in it, grip the steering wheel, and become the most dazzling person on the half-mountain of North Oak District.]

[During the trip, you receive a new mission from Kagami. She also informs you that the Sandevistan has been acquired.]

[You are overjoyed and immediately contact Kitagawa to join you for the mission. Together, you go to Kagami's store to pick up the cyberware.]

[You find Victor Vektor, the cybernetic doctor, and he helps you implant the cyberware. Both of you are ready to go.]

[Your reaction limits have been exceeded.]

[The mission process is a bit complicated, but you manage to succeed without any significant danger. Since you feel you can't win, you call in a mercenary team for backup.]

[You successfully complete the mission.]

[You eliminate all the enemies that appeared during the mission!]

[Having completed the mission, you find a hotel, pay for one night, and use their bathroom and public laundry room to freshen up.]

[You and your friends gather at the TURBO restaurant for some well-earned relaxation.]

[A good day comes to an end.]

[Simulation Evaluation: Hello, Mr. Mo Ying!]

[Simulation Rewards: 1 Attribute Point, 1 Specialization Point, Sandevistan Cyberware Data, Sword Skills Experience 100, Mystery Prize (Locked, will be unlocked at a specific time tomorrow)]

Saturday, Night

After watching a newly released movie with your sister, Lin Mo quickly finished washing up and lay on his bed to begin the simulation for the next day.

Seeing the simulation's text records, he couldn't help but feel excited.

Attribute Points, Specialization Points, and the Mystery Prize!

And most importantly, tomorrow he could finally implant the first combat cyberware!

Bioware, Sandevistan...

"This evaluation is really intriguing," Lin Mo thought.

Lying back on his bed, holding his Troll Baby pillow, his mind raced.

This simulation experience reaffirmed his hypothesis. The way to gain attribute points was linked to combat-related events, while the method of gaining specialization points seemed to be tied to the simulation evaluation?

After all, only two rewards so far had included specialization points, and both times the evaluation had seemed positive.

For instance, this time's "Hello, Mr. Mo Ying!"—just looking at it, there was a mysterious feeling in his heart.

Much better than the usual evaluations like "A Bland Day" or "Occasionally Lucky Moments."

The last time was "A Test of Strength, First Blood," which seemed to be an evaluation of his first battle, and the simulator reward had also given a specialization point.

Lin Mo looked at the evaluation column, feeling complex:

"I wonder how these evaluations are determined, and if the quality of the evaluation affects the rewards?"

After thinking for a while without any conclusions, Lin Mo decided not to dwell on the uncertainty. Instead, he focused on the rewards and retrieved them from the database.

First was the sword skill experience. After extracting it, Lin Mo, with his Super Dream Simulator headset on, found himself in an unknown space surrounded by faceless figures.

He wielded a sword, tirelessly cutting through the oncoming shadows. Every slash scattered the figures into dust.

Experience, insights, and proficiency—though not physically controlling his body, these swordsmanship lessons felt as though he had personally gone through them.

After calculating, Lin Mo realized that exactly 100 figures had fallen under his sword.

"Feels great!"

After exiting the simulation scene, Lin Mo still felt a lingering soreness in his body, as if the tactile sensation of gripping the sword was still present in his hands.

There were no screams, no groans, and not even the sound of blades cutting flesh.

Everything took place in a silent, black-and-white pantomime, with no visible blood or cruelty. Lin Mo stood at the center, shadows and figures attacking from all sides. At times, he moved like a butterfly, and at others, like a brushstroke.

This was how the simulator provided skill experience (proficiency).

Skill experience couldn't be observed numerically like attribute points, but it was a real reward. Lin Mo preferred to view it as a hidden mechanism. Only he could feel the increase in proficiency.

"Next, the attribute and specialization points," Lin Mo shifted his attention to his attribute panel.

[Current Character Attributes:

Body: 4 Reaction: 10 (Human limit, requires cyberware to go further) Tech: 3 Intelligence: 4 Composure: 5]

Without much thought, Lin Mo added his attribute point to Body.

He had already realized that his path would lean toward combat. Intelligence was the necessary attribute for hackers, and Tech was useful for all classes in the game.

If this were a game, there would be no hesitation. He could point his points anywhere he liked.

But in reality, there's only one life. Tech is good, but right now, it didn't directly enhance his survival ability. Lin Mo preferred attributes that provided more immediate, physical benefits.

Reaction, Composure, and Body were his best choices.

Now, his Body attribute was at 4. According to previous patterns, when it reached 5, he should unlock a unique specialization.

Sure enough, when Lin Mo checked the specialization page, he found that the specialization tied to the Body attribute had been unlocked.

[Body Specializations:

Sprint Champion (Your explosive power has been enhanced. When activated, your stamina consumption during a sprint is reduced by 40%)

Long-Distance Champion (Your endurance has been enhanced. When activated, your stamina consumption during running is reduced by 40%)

Breathing Therapy (Your minor wounds can heal quickly during rapid breathing. It's a miracle of life!)

Special Ops Officer (Through long-term training, your handguns are rock-steady. When activated, recoil for all firearms is reduced by 20%) ...

True Man, Handling a Big Sniper (After years of training... no, after mental training, you have mastered the skill to handle a sniper rifle like a regular rifle. When activated, you will be accustomed to the powerful recoil of sniper rifles)

Running Armor (Why is there always a wind around me when I run? When activated, you generate a wind shield during high-speed sprints, reducing damage by 10%)

Great Strength, Deep Impact (Your strength is immense, and you can perfectly utilize this power. When activated, melee attack damage is increased by 20%)]

It seemed fairly average... Lin Mo thought.

With 5 points in Body, he certainly couldn't unlock any game-breaking specializations. Out of the 10 specializations, only a few seemed useful to him.

However, there were two specializations that caught his attention.

Great Strength, Deep Impact and Running Armor.

The former was pretty good, increasing melee damage by 20% over time, while the latter was also useful, providing 10% damage reduction during sprinting.

But the thought of implanting Sandevistan tomorrow made Lin Mo hesitate for a moment before choosing the Reaction attribute's specialization: Calm as Still Water, Moving Like Thunder.

A terrifying specialization with a rating of 20, providing 100% sword damage enhancement during Sandevistan activation, making everything cuttable.

Just reading the evaluation made Lin Mo focus most of his attention on it.

This was the perfect specialization for a time-slowing Sword Saint!
