Chapter 39 - Chapter 38: Going Home

Pirra was shouting and dodging Rebecca's kicks, cursing loudly.

However, the seemingly cute girl was swearing even worse than him and even pulled out a pink-and-green gun, aiming it at her older brother.

Yes, she actually fired, and the bullet hit Pirra's metal prosthetic arm, sparking bright flashes that made Pirra's face change in fear, causing him to run even faster.

Lin Mo secretly observed the two's actions, feeling a shock in his heart.

To be able to draw a gun so quickly while chasing each other, and even hit the metal prosthetic arm with precision...

This girl's marksmanship was definitely not as harmless as she looked.

Ignoring the antics of the two, Maine continued to grin and suggested to Lin Mo:

"How about we exchange contact information? If you ever run into trouble, you can reach out to us, or you can contact Wakako—she can be the middleman, and both sides can rest assured."

Lin Mo didn't refuse and agreed right away.

They exchanged contact information and added each other to their contact lists.

During this meeting, both sides had their own agendas.

Lin Mo was thinking about using his connection with Maine to quickly gain experience and eventually qualify for entry into Afterlife Bar.

Maine, on the other hand, was focused on Lin Mo's personal influence, as he could privately call in security forces for support... this kid's background was definitely not simple.

People with too much money and nowhere to spend it had only two possibilities when they became involved with people in the streets.

Either they were kidnapped and extorted for money, or they made connections to see if they could gain profit from them.

Moreover, this kid knew Wakako, so it was possible they would cooperate in the future.

It was their first meeting, so they weren't yet at the level of sharing their hearts.

"By the way, I almost forgot to introduce our team members. I'm Maine, this is Doliu, the one being chased is Pirra, and this one is Falco," Maine spread out his thick arms, introducing the members of the team to Lin Mo.

"Ah, Wakako already told me about you guys, but still, nice to meet you all. Looking forward to working together in the future," Lin Mo extended his hand again to shake hands with the rest of the team.

It was their first meeting, so they naturally wanted to make a good impression.

The other team members were not shy, all flashing bright smiles and shaking hands with him.

"By the way, may I ask, why did these gang members suddenly trouble you?" Lin Mo then remembered the important question.

Maine raised an eyebrow, his expression becoming a bit more serious. After thinking for a moment, he shook his head silently:

"I don't know. People in our line of work tend to have conflicts with others, but whoever is causing trouble, we'll just take care of them!"

As he said this, he grinned and gave a thumbs-up.

"We owe this one to you, Lin Mo. If we had to handle these small fry ourselves, it would've been a real hassle."

Lin Mo nodded thoughtfully. He didn't expect that even Maine's team didn't know why they were being targeted.

"I got some intel from the mouths of those people earlier. I've written it down and sent it to your channel, so you guys need to stay alert."

Lin Mo's eyes brightened as he sent the information through the contact list to Maine's message channel.

Maine furrowed his brow, looked at the message Lin Mo had sent, and his expression turned serious:

"Thank you, Lin Mo."

Lin Mo nodded and looked up at the sky, thinking their conversation was almost over. He then said:

"It's getting late, let's wrap it up here. If there's any news, just give me a call. We'll head back for now."

"OK!"

Maine took off his sunglasses, grinning mischievously, and saluted Lin Mo with his hand beside his ear. He then waved towards Lin Mo as he turned away.

The rest of the team also said their goodbyes to Lin Mo with friendly smiles.

"See you later," Lin Mo nodded slightly.

They turned and walked towards the other side of the street, leaving Lin Mo with their backs to him.

The girl with twin tails turned around and waved playfully at Lin Mo in farewell. Sasha followed suit and waved as well.

The group quickly got into their vehicles, starting the engines. The sports cars and SUVs sped down the road without hesitation, moving swiftly into the distance.

Only when the two vehicles disappeared from his sight did Lin Mo turn his gaze back to Kitagawa Hiro, smiling as he asked:

"So, are you heading home tonight, or are you going to Victor's to look after your sister?"

"I'm going back to see my sister. If she wakes up in an unfamiliar place and finds me not by her side, I'm worried she'll be scared," Kitagawa Hiro replied without hesitation.

Afterward, as if thinking of something, he added:

"By the way, Lin Mo, since we're officially teaming up now, but if there are no specific assignments, would it be possible for me to take on some small private jobs to earn some money?"

It was hard for him to make ends meet. He owed a lot of debt, and now, with his sister needing recovery time, things were even harder.

He himself didn't mind, surviving on some packaged synthetic food, but his sister needed better nutrition for her recovery.

Lin Mo smiled and replied:

"No problem. I'm not running a black factory here, and I won't restrict your personal freedom. Besides, it might be a while before we need to work together again."

In Night City, edge-runner teams like Maine's—well-equipped with personnel—were rare. Most teams consisted of only two or three people.

"Really? Are you that busy, Lin Mo?" Kitagawa Hiro thought for a moment.

After all, such a young and talented person must have endured countless struggles, training through harsh winters and hot summers.

"Yes, I need to attend classes," Lin Mo said openly, without any intention to hide it.

Kitagawa Hiro nodded in understanding but then froze, realizing what Lin Mo had just said. He almost thought he had misheard.

But looking at Lin Mo's expression, he didn't seem like he was lying.

Truly, Lin Mo!

"Lin Mo, you're even more impressive than I imagined. I thought that lightning-fast sword technique must have come from countless days of intense training, but you're still going to school... The way you manage your time between these two things—truly a genius," Kitagawa Hiro said with admiration.

Lin Mo shrugged, not feeling proud. He glanced into the distance, noticing a black and gold taxi slowly approaching.

"The car's here. Do you want to come along?" Lin Mo asked.

"No need, I'll walk back alone. I need to clean up here, and when I've sold all this junk, I'll transfer the money to you," Kitagawa Hiro glanced at the mess in the alley.

"Money isn't necessary for now. I'm not short of cash. We'll call it a day for tonight. I'm heading back now."

Lin Mo waved as he felt a little tired. When the Draman taxi arrived, he got in.

"See you later, Lin Mo." Kitagawa Hiro bowed in farewell.

Lin Mo lay back on the seat, his eyes half-closed, ready to rest for a bit.

Everything that had happened today was intense and draining. He could already guess that once he got home, took a shower, and lay down, he would fall asleep instantly.

However, just as he was about to rest, a message notification popped up, interrupting him. He opened his eyes slightly and saw a request from a contact.

Sender: Rebecca

Recipient: Lin Mo

Lin Mo smiled, not thinking much, and accepted the request.

Besides her, there were requests from a few other contacts: Falco, the wandering driver, and Pirra, the tech expert.

The tall, burly woman, Doliu, seemed close to Maine, so with Maine adding her as a friend, she probably didn't need to be added.

Lin Mo had a feeling that he would encounter this team more often in the future.
