Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 : Gifts, Promises, and Desire

After the exchange of gifts—Lin Mei was waiting to return home to give Huaze Lei his present—they all went to dinner. Everyone was happy, not because of the gifts, although they were greatly appreciated, but because of the new member of the family, who was sensible, polite, and well-mannered.

Her mother-in-law smiled and asked gently,

"Mei Mei, I heard that you and Yu Mei are going to start filming a drama. Is that true?"

"Yes," Lin Mei replied. "Tomorrow we have to go to the filming location. Speaking of that, I still need to pack my bags."

"Don't worry, child. There's still time, especially since you're leaving tomorrow. Now, let's have dessert," the old lady said warmly. "By the way, has my grandson cooked for you yet?"

"Of course, Grandma," Lin Mei answered with a smile. "On the first day of our honeymoon, he even put his culinary skills to the test."

"My son has really grown up," the old lady said proudly.

"Mom," Huaze Lei said helplessly, "I just got married. Weren't you the one who wanted a daughter-in-law so badly? Why aren't you spoiling her like you promised?"

"You idiot," his mother retorted. "How can I spoil her when you won't even let her leave your arms?"

"Fine, fine," Huaze Lei replied indulgently.

They chatted for a while longer before returning to their home, which was nearby. Huaze Lian walked with them for a short distance, then said goodbye and headed to his own house.

Once they were home, Lin Mei finally took out the gift she had prepared for Huaze Lei.

The gift she bought for him was far from modest, and it made him genuinely happy. Knowing that his wife had used their money to buy something just for him warmed his heart.

Earlier that day, when Huaze Lei saw her quietly slip away and enter a men's accessories store, his jealousy flared. Unable to restrain himself, he followed her—only to see Lin Mei showing the clerk a photo of him, carefully asking which cufflinks would suit him best.

After making the purchase, she smiled shyly, her cheeks flushed.

If he hadn't followed her, he would have exploded with jealousy upon seeing her blushing face. But now that he knew the truth, his heart softened—and he decided to buy something even more expensive to please her.

Later that night…

"Husband, I have a gift for you!" Lin Mei said excitedly.

"Then give it to me," he replied. "What is it?"

"They're titanium cufflinks. Do you like them?"

"I love them," he said, leaning down to kiss her. "And I have something for you too."

"For me?" Her eyes sparkled. "What is it?"

"This bracelet," Huaze Lei said softly. "The moment I saw it, I felt it belonged to a long-lost queen. It reminded me of you."

"Love… are you okay?" she asked teasingly. "Don't you think a ruby bracelet is a bit too much?"

"No," he replied firmly. "Not at all. I love you. I really love you."

"I love you too," Lin Mei whispered. "I really, really love you so much."

"You are my sunshine," he said tenderly.

"And you are my grumpy," she replied with a smile.

They kissed, slowly trailing down her neck and collarbone. Suddenly, Lin Mei tried to pull her hand away from Huaze Lei's waist, murmuring softly,

"Honey, we can't do this now. Tomorrow I have to travel for filming. I still need to pack."

Huaze Lei leaned close and whispered hoarsely,

"Baby, we'll take care of that later. Not now."

"But—"

"No," he interrupted gently but firmly. "Not now. Come sit on your husband's lap."

Lin Mei gasped softly as she jumped into his arms. Huaze Lei held her tightly, lifting her so her legs wrapped around his waist, and kissed her once again.
