The big day had arrived. Lin Mei had no escape.
Today was dinner at the Huaze family home. Calling it a "home" was an understatement—it was a mansion. Like all the other residences in Golden Bird Village, it was grand, but this one stood out with its impeccable details and breathtaking beauty. Luxury was written into every corner.
At 7 p.m., Lei and Mei Mei arrived at the mansion. They were warmly welcomed. The staff greeted them as First Young Master and First Young Lady, following the orders of the matriarchs.
Obviously, Lin Mei was not foolish. She made Huaze Lei take her out to buy gifts beforehand. Even though everything was paid for with the black card he had given her, she felt it was only fair—after all, they lived under a shared property system. She followed her heart and bought gifts for everyone, including her husband. She thought he hadn't noticed, but not only did he notice—he also bought gifts so they could exchange them later.
They were led into the living room by Madam Huang, Huaze Lei's mother.
— Son, you finally brought my daughter-in-law to see me. One week is more than enough for a honeymoon, especially since you'll have another one when you formally hold the wedding.
— Your mother is right, — the old lady agreed. — It's about time. Butler Mo, bring my gifts for my daughter-in-law. Now that she's here, it's only fair that she receives her share.
— There's no need, Grandma. I'm really fine. I'm happy just to meet you and to know that you like me. I should be the one giving gifts, — Lin Mei said sincerely.
— Child, don't refuse. Everyone receives their share. We will gladly accept your gifts, but let us spoil you as well. You are our daughter-in-law, — the old man said kindly.
— Listen to Grandpa, Mei Mei, okay? — Huaze Lei added.
— Okay. Thank you, Grandma. Thank you, Grandpa. Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Dad.
— Good child. Keep it up, — Master Huang said with satisfaction.
Lin Mei received gifts that included houses, shares, buildings, shopping malls, and many other valuable assets. She was officially recognized as a member of the family. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Lin Mei couldn't help but cry and immediately wanted to present her own gifts.
She started with her grandfather, giving him an expensive chess set and even suggesting that they could play together sometime. For her grandmother, she bought a set of porcelain dishes—she had read in a magazine that elderly ladies loved collecting them. For her father-in-law, she bought a Bon Jovi CD, remembering Lei once mentioning that his father enjoyed that style of music. For her mother-in-law, she chose a vintage-style dress from a new brand that was becoming popular. She had seen a photo of Madam Huang before and felt the dress would suit her perfectly.
Everyone loved their gifts. At first, they were suspicious that Huaze Lei might have secretly helped her, but once everything was explained, they realized Lin Mei's thoughtfulness and cleverness. Their affection for this daughter-in-law grew even stronger.
For Huaze Lian, Lin Mei bought a limited-edition Rolex watch. And for her new friend Yu Mei, she bought a matching dress so she could wear it together with Fei Fei—coordinated outfits for close friends.
