I swallowed hard, my chest rising and falling in a heavy sigh that echoed the storm brewing inside me.
"It's true," I admitted at last, my voice quiet but steady, though my throat felt dry. My eyes locked with Alfie's, unwilling to waver. "Apart from not feeling well, I… I wanted to come here. To find you."
My gaze flickered then, shifting toward the others....Cassian, Rhys, Knox, and Silas. Their stares bore into me, heavy with suspicion and unspoken questions, each pair of eyes demanding answers I wasn't sure I had. "What are you all doing here though?" I asked finally, needing desperately to shift the focus away from myself before the weight of it crushed me.
