But Alfie's response was just as swift, his face hardening. "I don't need you to, Zane. It's too dangerous, and I can't allow you to get caught up in it. Stay here for me. I'll be back before you know it. And remember what I told you before....my father is dangerous too. More dangerous than you realize." His gaze darkened, heavy with warning. "About that library you entered back at home… don't try it again. Let that remain between you, me, and my brothers. If Father finds out, if he even suspects, he'll punish you in ways I won't be able to save you from."
I froze at the sheer seriousness in his eyes. The weight of his words pressed down on me, stealing my breath.
But instead of calming me, his warning only fueled my curiosity. Now what exactly is the issue about that damn library? He'd mentioned it, trying to push me away from it....but instead, he'd dragged me closer. My mind spun with restless thoughts.
