But then I thought again. Maybe this wasn't such a bad thing. Maybe this was good. Maybe this was the chance I had been waiting for. I had wanted to follow Alfie and Silas into the forest before, but now… with Josh's house being there, I finally had the perfect excuse. I could at least check in on them secretly, watch from a distance, and make sure nothing went wrong. That way, I wouldn't be left behind, sitting around helpless, consumed with dread and fear of the unknown.
"It's fine, Josh. I'll head over there now," I finally replied after what felt like forever, my voice steadier than I expected. Without waiting for his response, I ended the call and tossed the phone onto the bed with a sigh.
