Max had struggled to sleep. Someone had entered his bedroom, and he couldn't stop thinking about what that meant.
The door had been locked, as always. The building had a reception desk, cameras, and passes that restricted access to the elevators. Hundreds of Billion Bloodline members occupied the facility, yet someone had slipped past them all and reached the room where he slept.
An invitation was all they had left, but that hardly made the intrusion easier to accept.
He had been considering the invitation itself, wondering what it might lead to. Now he couldn't separate that curiosity from the knowledge that its sender could reach him so easily. The locked door offered less comfort than it had before he found the letter.
His first stop was the security room, where he reviewed the footage with Aaron and Na.
"How could you let this happen?" Aaron asked.
