Chapter 1 - Prologue

The ruins of the old city seemed to stretch out like a corpse in the pale moonlight. The vines growing out of the buildings glittered in the moonlight. The cat was crouching low on all fours, sniffing around. He was on a hunting mission for his clan.

In a moment, his ear twitched, and the scent of the creature he was hunting filled his nostrils. He ducked out of sight behind an unfamiliar, large rusty vehicle. In a moment, the creature he was hunting stepped into view. It was a round mutant creature, with dark-red scales, like an Ashfang, a large mouth with sharp teeth, and no tail at the end of its body. Its tiny-barely visible eyes were pitch black, like the hair-like spines sticking out of its back. The spines of the creature shook as it hissed.

The cat bent low instinctively, wiggling his behind, ready to pounce. But then he remembered that sharp claws weren't enough to actually cut its tough skin.

The cat got back onto his hind legs as his muscular-humanoid body glowed with the moon shining off of his dark-gray fur, his long tail swishing from side to side for stability. He felt a little embarrassed that he forgot about that.

The cat pulled out a little piece of metal, and unfolded it into a metallic bow. The cat then took out a metallic arrow, its tip humming softly as it glowed with a dim-yellow light. He drew the arrow, aiming at the mutant.

The mutant seemed to sense his presence, because it suddenly hissed at him and started running away. The cat shot his arrow, hitting the mutant in the side. The cat then dropped to all fours and started running after it. The creature hissed loudly as the cat pounced on it, drawing his knife. The knife glowed brightly as it cut into the mutant's skin. It screeched loudly and fell silent.

The cat sat down and began carving the mutant's hide. When he was done, he bagged the creature. It was a big one, larger than the average Quillback. This one would feed the cat's family back in the Whisperfang's clan camp for a few nights. Maybe he could use the Quillback's hide to make a new pelt. As he slung the bag over his back, he glanced up at the terrifying black tower in front of him. This intimidating black Obelisk rose above the city, casting a dark shadow over the ruins of the city. The cat couldn't help but shutter at the sight of it. It was hard to believe that this strange structure existed in the old world, before the world was called Eryndor.

As he turned to leave, he looked back at the Obelisk. As he did, his ear twitched. He could swear that he heard a faint humming from the Obelisk.
