Chapter 4 - Chapter 4- Bounty Hunting Mission

Li Wei didn't make a single cut, yet Hu Wei confessed everything he knew.

All because of Li Wei's eyes.

Those scarlet eyes with a single勾玉(magatama) jade already shattered the courage of this assassin.

He exclaimed in shock: "Element! You are actually an Element Strong!"

Li Wei was taken aback, but quickly recovered his composure.

The so-called "Element" refers to an extraordinary power.

After the apocalypse, it is evident that human beings have embarked on a completely different evolutionary path than before.

A human being on the path of evolution must first forge their body to its limits. Few can achieve this step, but the next step is even more challenging - breaking the limits and unlocking genetic chains.

After unlocking the genetic chains, one officially becomes an Evolver. Li Wei, in the early stages, was abandoned by the Superpower Academy because he was judged to lack evolutionary potential in the genetic test.

As for the so-called "Element," it means that as the genetic chains are developed step by step, until they are developed to a certain depth, there is a possibility of manifesting some unique extraordinary powers.

This is the genetic element, abbreviated as Element, a power exclusive to advanced Evolvers. Any Element Strong is a figure that deserves respect in any force.

Throughout the seventeenth block, as long as one could push their body to its limit, even without breaking through the genetic chain, they could be considered a figure to be reckoned with, not to mention an Element. Strong one.

For a minor branch of the Skeleton Party in the seventeenth block, an elemental strong person is completely unattainable.

Of course, Li Wei is not an evolver, let alone an elemental strong person. However, he thought about it, and the Sharingan he got from the Book of All Laws seems to be really similar to the legendary element.

He would not bother to explain anything to Hu Wei for no reason, and was more than happy to just listen to the guy spill out all the things he knew out of fear.

  Then, Li Wei killed him.

  ...

Weistum City Lower District, 17th block, Wasteland Delicious Tavern.

The upper district is on top, enjoying the precious sunlight of this era, while the lower district shrouded by the upper district is in perpetual darkness, with no other illumination except for the dim street lamps.

Here, one cannot see the sunrise or sunset. People depend on the clock tower in the center of the neighborhood that chimes every hour to calculate the beginning and end of the day.

It must be around 9 o'clock in the evening now, and Levi is sitting across from Erin in a tavern, drinking together.

Erin unceremoniously places her feet on the bar table, reclining in her chair and lazily stretching, not at all concerned about how enticing her appearance might be.

After hearing Levi's request, she says, "You know the rules, Levi."

"I know, I know, I owe you at most a month's money, I will definitely pay it back. It's not much, right?" Levi's face has a slightly helpless expression.

Erin shrugged her shoulders, raised a finger and shook it, saying, "No, there's no such thing as arrears in the trade of information."

With a helpless gesture, Li Wei spread his hands, leaned back, and pressed the old red leather sofa, causing it to creak.

The previous owner of his body was cornered in a dark alley in the lower district, and was beaten to death with sticks and clubs. That was when Li Wei took possession of this body.

Clearly, his predecessor had provoked the wrong people. They were out for his life.

After being reborn and transcending through worlds, Li Wei naturally cares a lot about this incident. If the other party discovers he's still alive, they are unlikely to let it go.

In a month's time, he conducted a detailed investigation and essentially figured out who those people were that had killed him once—

  The Skull Gang.

This is a gang composed of a group of thugs; they act a lot more rampantly than the bounty hunters who are always keen on working alone. In the chaotic lower districts, there is clearly not enough law enforcement to crack down on these gangs, which emboldens them even further to the point where street killings are no longer a rare occurrence.

A week ago, when Erin, the pub owner with whom he has a good relationship, told him that the Skull Gang had discovered he was still alive and were looking for him, he knew that things would eventually have to be resolved.

The day before yesterday, he deliberately appeared in front of a few minions of the Skull Gang, waiting for someone to cause him trouble.

As expected, he attracted the attention of the Skull Gang's gunman, Hu Wei.

After killing Hu Wei, he finally figured out what was going on.

It was Hu Wei's boss who wanted to kill Levi, the Skull Gang's big shot in Block 17, whose real name is Zhang Xi but is known as "Brother Xi."

Li Wei's former self once encountered a girl being chased by a group of thugs at the end of a bounty mission.

Driven by a strong sense of justice, the former self saved the girl and provided her with some food, helping her escape.

Hu Wei didn't know who the girl was, but he understood that she was someone extremely valued by "Brother Xi". Evidently, Li Wei had disrupted an operation of the Skull Gang, and Brother Xi wanted to keep knowledge of the girl from spreading. Thus, he ordered his men to assassinate Li Wei.

Upon discovering Li Wei was still alive, Brother Xi sent Hu Wei, armed with a gun, to his residence to silence him permanently.

However, this was all the information Hu Wei possessed.

Li Wei believed that Brother Xi would not let the matter rest. Having failed twice and lost a henchman, such a mafia boss would not simply let it go.

Li Wei also had no intention of letting it go.

Still, he was alone, and wanting to take down a gangster boss was a bit difficult. He was not a genuine strongman, although the Sharingan seemed to be, and his future growth potential is immeasurable, let alone that he has the Book of Laws, and could develop more extraordinary powers in the future.

But at present, his physical strength was not even qualified to unlock his genes.

A killer coming to kill him had a pistol, so one could imagine the Skeleton Gang probably had plenty of firearms in their possession. If he blindly bashed into them, he would likely be shot to pieces.

To eliminate Zhang Xi, a reliable plan was necessary.

But plans are not just come up by clapping your head, which means the support of intelligence is essential.

Thinking of intelligence, Li Wei immediately thought of Ai Lin. A person who could issue various gray, illegal bounty missions in the dark world of Block 17 could not be an ordinary talent.

This woman must have quite a rich amount of information in her hands. If she wants to find out the details about the leader of the Skeleton Gang in the 17th district, she would be a great starting point.

Sure enough, Levi's thinking was right; Erin indeed had something that Levi wanted to know.

  But this information costs money.

It's too normal for an underground bar owner to sell information for money. But this made Levi feel a bit of a headache, as he had spent all his money a few days ago to buy a bottle of gene supplement fluid and a needle of "steel-cutting flash" skill, where else to buy information?

Just as he was upset, he suddenly heard Erin say, "However... there is another way. I have a long-accumulated mission here. If you are willing to take it, I can give you Zhang Xi's information as a reward and pay in advance."

"What kind of mission?" Li Wei slightly increased his vigilance. He didn't believe in windfalls, even if it was something Elaine said.

He didn't want to be trapped in this matter.

Elaine looked at him charmingly and said, "Don't worry, this mission aligns with your goals."

Li Wei rolled his eyes, completely ignoring Elaine's charm. This woman is not that easy to get involved with.

The bar owner stood up and went around to the back of the bar. He looked through a dark wooden cabinet under the liquor rack for a moment, took out a scroll of paper, and returned to the bar table, handing it to Li Wei.

Li Wei unfolded it and saw the eye-catching title:

  "Bounty Hunting Contract."

  "Challenge Level: Class C."

  "Target: Lower-level vampire, Konadov."

"In the New City Calendar Year 442, on December 21st, the lower-level vampire Konradov escaped our pursuit. Intelligence reports indicate that he has taken refuge in Block 17 of the Lower District. We are now transferring this assassination mission to the Block 17 branch for handling. We hope Lady Eileen will quickly address this task."

"Client: Hunter's Guild, Iron Cross avenue branch."
