The silence in the cave was unnatural. The air was still heavy with the smell of burning flesh, but the Hydra lay on the ground, its body blackened by Veran's blow.
Raigor bent forward, his hands on his knees, his chest heaving and falling with fatigue. "Damn… that beast was tougher than I thought."
Veran approached the creature's remains. In its ashes, the seal he had found still glowed, but something caught his eye: the Hydra's heart, still beating, wrapped in an eerie glow.
He picked it up carefully, feeling the heat pulsing in his hand. As he touched it, a wave of energy passed through him. His breathing stopped for a moment, as he felt his very life bonding to that beating heart.
An ancient whisper echoed in his mind:
"The blood of the Hydra now flows in your veins. Nine deaths you will escape, but each return will have a price."
Veran gritted his teeth. The power to avoid death nine times… but at what cost?
Raigor, meanwhile, approached the creature and noticed another source of light inside its torn chest: a crystalline core, the size of a fist, that shone with a deep, pulsating light.
He took it without hesitation, immediately feeling a wave of strength coursing through his body. His muscles contracted, his breathing deepened, and his heart beat with a new power.
A roaring voice resounded in his soul:
"You have inherited the Heart of the Hydra. As your spirit fights, your wounds will heal, and your flesh will be reborn stronger."
Raigor clenched his fist, feeling a new energy coursing through his veins. "Advanced regeneration, huh? Now things are getting interesting."
