Chapter 34 - 34)The Battle for Crystal Island

The sun beat down mercilessly on the open water. Lucious sat in the small, rocking rowboat, momentarily at peace as he enjoyed a meal of freshly caught fish. The tranquility didn't last long. A series of muffled, chaotic noises echoed across the waves, instantly putting him on high alert.

Lucious grabbed his brass telescope, pressing it to his eye and scanning the horizon. His heart sank. A large commercial vessel was under siege. A dark, menacing pirate ship had intercepted it, and through the lens, Lucious could see heavily armed marauders swarming the decks, forcing the innocent crew and passengers to their knees. They were taking everyone hostage.

"Let's move there and help them," Lucious urged, his voice tight with determination.

Jack didn't hesitate. He gripped the oars tightly, digging them into the water and rowing with powerful, rhythmic strokes toward the captured vessel. As they drew closer, however, the element of surprise vanished. The pirates on watch spotted their small craft.

"Intruders!" a pirate yelled.

Suddenly, a volley of heavy iron weights and debris rained down from the ship's deck, splashing violently around their tiny boat. Wood splintered. They were sitting ducks.

Knowing they needed a tactical advantage, Lucious took a deep breath and dived clean into the ocean, vanishing beneath the churning surface. Seeing his companion dive, Hero, their brave dog, began barking wildly from the boat before leaping into the sea right after him.

Lucious swam hard underwater, the cold sea rushing past him as he used the shadow of the massive ship for cover. Hero swam fiercely right beside him. Together, they breached the surface right at the hull of the commercial ship. Moving with stealthy precision, Lucious scaled the side of the vessel and slipped quietly onto the deck, immediately ducking behind a thick wooden wall to hide.

He needed a distraction, and Jack was ready to provide it. From the rowboat, Jack shouted and made enough noise to draw the pirates' attention to the opposite side of the ship.

While the pirates were distracted, Lucious seized his moment. He unsheathed his sword, the steel catching the sunlight, and swung it with deadly accuracy. He caught a nearby pirate completely off guard, slashing him across the chest. With a sharp cry, the pirate stumbled backward and fell over the railing, splashing into the ocean below.

Lucious pressed his back against the wall, surveying the deck. The situation was grim. There were still five more pirates patrolling the main deck, keeping a terrifying watch over roughly ten hostages who were huddled together on the wooden floor.

"There is an intruder! Go catch him!" the Pirate Captain roared, his voice booming over the deck as he realized one of his men had vanished. He pointed aggressively and sent two of his skilled fighters to hunt Lucious down.

Meanwhile, Jack and Hero had brought their boat right alongside the ship's hull. Jack hoisted the dog up, quickly tying a sturdy piece of cloth around himself and Hero to secure them together. With the dog strapped tightly to his back, Jack began his perilous climb up the side of the ship.

Back on deck, the two sent pirates closed in on Lucious's hiding spot. Recognizing that this was the perfect time to attack, Lucious burst out from the shadows.

But these pirates were not easily rattled. They were highly skilled in swordplay. With lightning-fast reflexes, they raised their blades and cleanly blocked Lucious's opening strike. The sharp, metallic ring of clashing blades echoed everywhere as a brutal two-on-one duel began.

Lucious quickly found himself overpowered. The sheer momentum of the two men forced him into a defensive retreat, his arms straining as he blocked strike after strike. Sensing a momentary gap in their rhythm, Lucious deflected a downward slash, stepped into the guard of the first pirate, and delivered a powerful kick straight to his stomach. The man gasped, losing his footing and crashing hard onto the deck.

Before the second pirate could capitalize, Lucious spun, bringing his sword down in a shattering counter-attack. The force of the blow broke through the pirate's guard, landing heavily and sending him crashing to the floor. The pirate who had taken the kick to the stomach scrambled backward in a panic. Terrified by Lucious's sudden dominance, the man scrambled to his feet, sprinted to the edge of the ship, and jumped overboard, frantically swimming toward the pirates' own getaway boat to escape.

"Useless fools!" the Pirate Captain snarled. He barked orders, sending his remaining two pirates rushing toward Lucious to finish the job.

But the Captain wasn't taking any more chances. He drew a heavy, flintlock pistol from his belt, raised it, and aimed it directly at Lucious's head while the young warrior was tied up defending himself against the two charging pirates. The Captain's finger tightened on the trigger.

Just then, Jack vaulted over the deck railing. Seeing the Captain about to shoot his friend, Jack untied the cloth holding Hero.

"Fetch!" Jack yelled.

Hero rushed forward like a furry bullet, leaping through the air and sinking his teeth into the Pirate Captain's gun hand. The Captain screamed in agony, swinging his arm wildly to shake the dog off, his shot flying harmlessly into the sky.

Before the Captain could recover, Jack closed the distance. He threw a devastating punch straight into the pirate's jaw. The Captain's eyes rolled back, and he laid flat on the deck, completely knocked out. Jack quickly scooped up the dropped pistol, spinning around to assist Lucious—only to find that Lucious had already finished off the remaining two pirates, leaving them groaning on the floor.

The deck fell dead silent, save for the sound of the wind in the sails.

Jack turned to the terrified crowd of hostages and offered a reassuring smile. "You guys are safe now," he yelled.

A collective sigh of relief washed over the deck, followed by a burst of cheers and applause as the hostages stood up, wiping away tears of gratitude.

Lucious sheathed his sword. He hadn't killed the pirates; they lay unconscious and bleeding across the deck. Working quickly, Lucious, Jack, and the crew threw the unconscious raiders over the side of the ship. The shock of the cold ocean water instantly awakened them. Sputtering and coughing up seawater, the defeated pirates frantically swam away toward their retreating vessel.

The commercial ship's captain walked forward, still trembling slightly, and warmly shook Lucious and Jack by the hands.

"Thank you for saving us," the Captain said, his voice thick with emotion. He looked out toward the horizon, where their destination finally lay in sight. "We were on our way to Crystal Island when we were attacked. We never would have made it without you."
