Chapter 36 - 36)The Shimmering Peaks of Crystal Island

Lucious stepped out from the cramped lower decks and walked up to the main deck. The fresh ocean breeze hit his face, a welcome relief from the stuffy quarters below. At the helm stood Captain William, his hands steady on the steering wheel as he expertly navigated the massive ship through the rolling waves.

"Jack and Hero are still fast asleep," Lucious said with a slight smile, walking over to stand beside the captain.

William turned around, returning the smile, and pointed toward the horizon. "Look out there, Lucious."

Lucious looked. Rising from the ocean was a massive island, completely illuminated under the sky. It wasn't just a regular landmass—the island was crowned with colossal, jagged pillars of raw crystal that caught the light, shining like a beacon. One central pillar rose so high it resembled a glittering mountain.

"This is our island," William said, his voice filled with pride. "Our main source of income here comes from mining and selling these rare minerals. We are just two kilometers away now."

A loud yawn cut through the sound of the crashing waves. Jack had finally made his way up to the deck, rubbing his eyes. The moment he looked up, his jaw dropped. He stood frozen, completely shocked by the sheer scale of the towering crystal pillars.

"I'll help you out, Captain," Jack offered, quickly shaking off his sleepiness. "I know how to pilot a ship through waves like these."

As Jack took over a few steering duties, Lucious turned his attention back to the mechanics of the vessel. "William, how exactly does a ship this massive operate?"

"Come, let me show you," William replied.

He led Lucious down into the deep basement of the ship. The air grew thick and hot. In the center of the room, a crew of laborers was working tirelessly, shoveling heavy lumps of coal into a roaring furnace.

"We use steam energy to power this entire vessel," William explained as the workers expertly stoked the flames, keeping the great boilers churning.

They returned to the upper deck, where the captain looked out at the water. "Lucious, I have to ask... how did you manage to travel all this way in that tiny little boat we found you in?"

Lucious chuckled softly. "Yes, we really did start our journey in that. It's actually Jack's boat. He used to be a simple fisherman. But now, he's traveling with me to the Solvania Empire."

Captain William nodded thoughtfully. "I see. Well, since you're stopping by, I have something special waiting for you on the island. Something that will definitely help you on your travels."

Lucious blinked in surprise, then nodded. "Thank you. I appreciate it."

"Alright, for now, let me introduce you to the locals," William said, gesturing toward the docks as the ship drew closer. "Look there, that is the Mayor of Crystal Island."

An old man holding a sturdy support stick was making his way down to the pier.

"The ladies you see working in the kitchen over there are part of the Mayor's family," William continued, pointing out the various people gathering on the shore. "And those men next to them are the local delegates. We are actually heading straight into a council meeting as soon as we land."

William's expression turned serious. "We need to drastically increase security around Crystal Island. Lately, some of our precious crystals have gone missing, and we suspect there is illegal mining happening around the perimeter. We desperately need more manpower and guards to protect our people."

William turned to Lucious, his eyes full of hope. "Why don't you stay with us? If you do, we will make you our Military General."

Lucious shook his head, offering an apologetic but firm smile. "I'm honored, but no. I can't stay here for long. I have to leave for my own journey. However... I can train your guards while I'm here. We can set up a few training camps, and I will gladly teach them my swordsmanship. I am quite skilled with a blade; that much I can do for you."

William's face lit up with gratitude. "Oh, thank you! Yes, that would be an incredible help."

"But as soon as the training ends, I must leave for the Solvania Empire," Lucious reminded him.

"Understandable. Thank you, Lucious," the Mayor smiled warmly from the docks, having overheard the agreement, and bowed his head in gratitude.

Suddenly, the loud, resonant ring of the ship's bell echoed across the water. They had arrived.

Lucious peered through the window of the deckhouse and saw a massive crowd gathering on the shore. The entire island was celebrating the ship's arrival. Music filled the air as local bands began drumming a rhythmic, welcoming beat. High above, spectacular fireworks exploded into the sky, showering the harbor in brilliant colors.

Lucious, Jack, and Hero the dog walked out onto the main deck together. All the passengers and crew members on board stood along the railings, smiling and waving their hands at the massive crowd gathered on the shore.

With a gentle bump against the wooden beams, the great ship finally reached the dock.
