Chapter 39 - Chapter 34: Breakthrough

Beginning of Chapter

----------------------------------------------------

2 days later. Thursday

Location: U.A Ground zero

The sun hung low in the sky, orange light spilling across the city replica training field. Towering buildings and winding streets, the same place where Class 1-A had once taken their entrance exam, now echoed with the sounds of battle.

"DIE, KIRISHIMA!" Kaminari shouted, bolts of electricity sparking around him. His arms arced with controlled surges as he and Kirishima clashed head on.

Hardness versus Electricity.

Kirishima grinned, hardening his skin hardening into a sharp and jagged form as he charged forward towards the yellow haired lightning bolt.

"Bring it, Sparky!"

From the control room, four pairs of eyes watched the screens closely.

Aizawa's monotone voice came first. "Kaminari's improved. He's not short-circuiting after every discharge." He commented as the screen showed the live footage of the two, Kirishima gaining the egde but Kaminari forcing him to back off.

Midnight leaned forward, chin propped on her hand. "Mmm, not bad. He's starting to show some bite." She licked her lips, earning a sigh from Aizawa.

The screens flicked to another angle at a different location. Todoroki stood along a collapsed building, his one half covered in frost.

His right hand brushed the side of the structure ruins, ice crept around him in a jagged wave, coating the ground, instantly freezing Momo up to her waist.

He shook his head before a metal pipe knocked the side of his head causing him to fall to the ground then turn around, face furious as he looked for who did it.

"Rather efficient quirk usage. Nothing less from Endevours son." All Might said in a neutral tone as he watched. "Hagakure is rather getting creative. Momo and her are a good duo, a distraction and an attack you never see coming."

Midnight nodded along, smiling as she watched Todoroki freezing random areas around him trying to catch Toru, him shouting for her to stop slapping him. Fighting an invisible ghost.

Momo kept throwing things on the ground to help her friends escape Todoroki spamming and layering the ground with ice.

Nezu clasped his paws together, eyes gleaming. "I'd say it was a wise idea letting them loose here. This replica allows them to unleash themselves without worry for collateral damage. Children need space to breathe if they're to grow."

"Cementoss won't be happy about repairing this place." All Might let out a chuckle as he thought of how annoyed the block headed hero would react to having to rebuild the damaged areas.

The screen scrambled for a second before it switched to a new location. Destroyed buildings lining the street as two figures ran.

The feed jolted with sound explosions and shouts. Midoriya and Bakugo were running down the street, Bakugo blasting himself as he chased Midoriya, sweat and sparks flying as he spammed down on the ground where he was a moment ago before seeing Midoriya dodge his attack.

"DAMN NERD, STOP DODGING AND LET ME HIT YOU!" Bakugo roared, explosions kicking against the ground.

"I DONT WANT TO!" Midoriya screamed back, muscles straining as he ran down the street, making sharp turns and using his quirk sparingly against the maniac chasing him.

"I'm glad Bakugo isn't shunning Midoriya away. The two have a... complicated friendship, Midoriya has been much more lively since the class accepted him back." All Might said.

'That fire, it burns brighter than before! Young Midoriya, you have excellent friends.' All Might said, a smile coming to his face as he watched.

Aizawa's eyes softened, just barely. "True, the class forgave him. Two days ago, they wouldn't even look him in the eye. Now? They're fighting with him, not against him." He exhaled quietly.

"I'm glad. The relationships between them and their classmates is an important factor in them growing together." Nezu said with a soft smile.

Moving on, the camera feed blurred before coming back to life, showing a change of scenery conpared to the rest.

Gojo was alone. He stood in the plaza of the district he was in. Infront of him stood a massive cement block. A joke Cementoss put as "Town Square."

Gojo stood alone in the plaza, fists crashing again and again into the massive cement block. The surface was cracked, spiderwebbing formed as the cracks grew, blood smeared where his knuckles had split open. Still, he didn't stop. His expression was unreadable, white hair catching the fading light.

Midnight tilted her head. "Why's no one going near him? Seems like easy prey if he's standing still beating a rock."

Nezu's ears twitched. "Ah… because of his passive technique. I believe." His little smile curled. "Infinity. He generates an invisible barrier by manipulating space itself. Any strike, any blast… they stop short, unable to reach him."

"Space itself? Forming a barrier? From the footage of him fighting the Nomu and his clasmates–" Midnight blinked before she shook her head. "– seems like he has a cheat code up his sleeves

"A brilliant move really, making him untouchable. It was he who asked me to let the class train here to begin with." Nezu said, All Might raising an eyebrow.

A loud buzzer suddenly echoed across the field. Everyone froze, some scared by the sudden buzzer, others confused. All eyes turned to the speakers as Aizawa stood, pulling up his goggles.

"That's enough of letting then have fun. My turn."

The announcement crackled through the cityscape. All Mights commanding voice speaking through the speakers laced around the city

"Attention, Class 1-A. Training protocol has changed. From this moment on… Eraserhead will be hunting you."

The effect was immediate.

Kaminari and Kirishima froze mid-duel as a scarf whipped through the air. Aizawa landed in a crouch, eyes glowing red. Kirishimas quirk fizzled instantly, getting electrocuted by Kaminari.

Kaminari turned around too late, as Aizawa fist came crashing into his face. Knocking him out in one clean hit.

"Tag." His voice was cold. "You're out."

Panic spread like wildfire. Students scattered through the streets, ducking into alleys, sprinting between buildings.

The game had become survival.

One by one Aizawa hunted then all, even Todoroki was caught off caught when he engaged with his homeroom teacher, only to be pinned down alongside Momo and Hagakure before the man began sprinting through the streets

Back in the control room, the three remaining teachers all watched with interest.

"He's really not pulling any punches. Literally." All Might said, on the screen Aizawa finding Bakugo and Midoriya running around.

Midnight shook her head. "Hes really treating this seriouly. They look almost paranoid about the situation." She said with a sympathetic tone.

'My Erasure's weaker than before...' Aizawa's thoughts kept pace with his steps. 'The Nomu did more damage than Recovery Girl and that doctor could fix. Now I have to maintain constant line-of-sight… Annoying.'

Bakugo's scream cut across the street. "GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!" He launched an explosion point-blank at Aizawa's face.

The teacher rolled smoothly aside, scarf snapping out to coil around Bakugo's arm. Quirk erased, momentum killed, Bakugo crashed into the ground with a growl.

Awizawa dragged him towards the knocked out Midoriya and dropped him next to the boy.

"Five minutes. And only one left." He commented as he began walking towards his target. This time, a deliberately slow walk as he had to actually planned out his attack for this one.

'Erasure first before anything else. Even so, he's good at hand-to-hand… I saw it at USJ. Fast reflexes, sharp angles. If I underestimate him... It's going to be tough.'

His words ran through his head, mind remembering his performance against the Nomu.

Around a bend from Aizawa current position, Gojo sat cross-legged on the plaza stones. His eyes were closed, breath steady.

The cement block behind him dented with marks of blood, yet his hands looks perfectly fine and flawless as always.

He sat, his blindfold on as he focused, putting every amount of focus into following the rhythm, the hum of energy outside and the current within.

'I can feel it now…'

Sudenly he heard something. He raised his head before getting up, dusting himself off as he prepared himself.

'Either this works and I'm a genuis or Aizawa is just broken and even a threat to me.' He thought to himself as he started doing light stretches.

Aizawa came around the corner, seeing his blue eyed student already waiting for him.

"So, Satoru. Going to make this easy for us both?" He asked, already knowing the answer as he pulled his goggles onto his eyes. Satoru doing the opposite as he pulled down his blindfold, locking eyes with his teacher.

Gojo rolled his shoulders as he got into his fighting stance, raising both hands as he spread his legs. His eyes glowing softly as he looked on.

"I got a theory I need to test. Hope you don't mind helping." He said with a causal smile on his face.

'His agile. Quick reflexes. Shouldn't be too difficult. With how uncle brags about his combat skills, should at least match Aiziawa.' He thought to himself.

In that same moment, it was as if the world shifted. The hum inside him had severed. His quirk signals tangled and blocked, Infinity fading away. Even the flicker of the new Six Eyes Mutation dulled to nothing.

"So... this is what it feels like..." He said as his smile turned into a frown, seeing the red glow behind Aizawas goggles as he bent his knees.

Aizawa dashed forward, grabbing into his scarf, preparing for a head to head clash with the boy.

But instead of Satoru running at him, he made a 180 degree turn and ran the opposite direction as he laughed.

Aizawa letting out a groan, seeing Gojo run behind a building and his connection to him severed.

'Damn it.'

He ran after him, ducking into an alleyway, trying to cut the boy off. Right as he existed the passage, he was met with a beam of Red blasting towards him, his body already twisting to let it shoot past his shoulders.

As he turned back, he was hit with a punch to face, sending him tumbling back with his arms shielding his face, taking the hits instead.

Gojo smirked, his sneak attack had worked. Until he felt the same feeling again.

'There it it... That means Erasure works by sending a telepathic suppression signal from him directly into my brain, he essentially cut off my neurological pathway that let my body access my Quirk...' Gojos mind raced, confirming what he read about online.

'I need a window, just a brief window to see if it works...' He stood, once again entering his fighting stance as Aizawa stood a few meters away from him.

The battle between the two erupted.

Meanwhile the teachers in the control room watched in silence. Impressed by the battle of the two while talking about their friend.

"Quirks like Aizawa appear almost only once in a generation. It's not an emitter or mutation. It's meta-manipulation." Nezu commented, the way Aizawas eyes glowed red, hair floating in the hair as he fought against Satoru.

'Even He himself said it was dangerous... he both feared and admired Aizawa almost as much as me.' All Might sat in thought as he watched the teacher and student battle.

The fight was intense for both parties. Hand to hand, Gojo was fluid, and at the same time relentless. His fists blurred, his body weaving like water. At the same time, Aizawa countered with efficient, brutal strikes, every movement meant to end the fight in seconds.

"Fast," Aizawa muttered between blows. "You fight like you've been trained for years." He commented in between his strikes.

Gojo blocked a fist from him while smiling, "Thanks, been doing since I was a kid. Nothing beats having a uncle take you in and kick your ass till you learn how to kick ass back!"

He said as he threw a uppercut, Aizawas scarf gripping onto his fist, in the same motion he turned around and with all his strength, gripped the scarf and pulled it, lifting Aizawa off his feet before he swung him into the nearby building.

Aizawa broke through the window, eyes returning to normal as Gojo flexed his hand, a light blue hue around his forearm, feeling the quirk energy return to him.

"Alright. Enough." Aizawa walked put of the building cracking his neck, recovering from the attack almost immune. He took off his goggles as his eyes grow red once again as he dashed at Gojo.

But something was different... he felt it was a little harder... the connection wasn't stable.

Gojo stood still, with a smile, letting Aizawa approach him. The teacher felt suspicious, deciding to go along and as he threw a kick and his scarf to restrain him before they came to a screeching halt right before him.

The red glow in his eyes faltered. His chest tightened, that awful, familiar taste of helplessness.

His eyes widened in horror as he stared directly into Satorus eyes.

'No... but...' He jumped back, Satoru letting out a laugh as aizawa moved away. "What's wrong teach, what's with the hurry?"

"How.... I erased your quirk, Infinity shouldn't even be active!" His voice grew louder as he spoke.

This is a man whose entire life is built on leveling the field and suddenly here's a student who can't be leveled.

"Its a work in progress, I'll admit, Im stuck to only using Infinity, anything else and I might lose focus." He said to the man before him, whos face was paler than normal.

Gojo looked at him before shrugging and offering him an explanation. "So basically, Im using my quirk to map the quirk energy and slip Infinity into the space between your suppression.

Think of it like this, a normal quirk works by navigating through a forest with a map to the brain so it can activate. You basically take away their map and they're lost... All I'm doing is forcing Infinity to stop your telepathic signals from removing my map."

Aizawa stood there speechless. One of the highest grade one heroes, mainly because of his quirk, a one in two hundred million threat to the eighty percent of the quirk population.

The third ever documented person having such a quirk since the first wave of quirks.

The teachers in the control room where stunned and speechless themselves, Midnight was already out if her seat in shock, All Might held the sides of his head, not believing what he heard and saw.

Nezu sat with his mouth agape, tablet dropped to the floor as his mind ran through multiple scenarios, thoughts and possibilities.

This student, a boy with white hair and blue eyes, just figured out exactly how his quirk works, and not only that but then developed a way around his quirk.

'He has an attack to ignore all of durability and regeneration... an ability that makes him untouchable... and he just figured out a way to remove the effect of his quirk...' Nezu thought to himself

Back to the two men in the street, Aizawa stood there with disbelief, while Satoru stood there like a child one joke away from laughing.

"You analyzed my quirk in the middle of combat… and countered it. No one has ever—" Aizawa stammered before he cleared his throat and took a deep breath.

Satoru jusy stood there, his smile taunting the man before him. 'Need to refine this. If I can learn how to completely nullify his quirk, them ones like brainwash and quirks related to neurological pathways are useless against me.'

"Times up. Get back to class." Aizawa said suddenly. "You won the game." He turned around and began walking away, his voice now resembling his usaul tired self.

Gojo followed, running up to Aizawa, standing shoulder to shoulder with the man. Aizawa threw a sudden punch hitting his arm, Gojo rubbing it in fake pain as he complained.

Aizawa gave no time for his complaints as he was deep in thought.

'If he can break Erasure, there's no ceiling for him. He won't just surpass his classmates… he'll surpass the world.'
