"Togepi~!"
Hearing the word "ice cream," Togepi instinctively turned its little body around. Even while doing so, it didn't forget to stuff the last bite of cream puff into its mouth.
It was that same human woman again. She wasn't going to shove the ice cream at me and then snatch it back, was she? Togepi strained to lift its nearly neckless little head to glance at its Trainer.
"Don't worry, it's okay. Go ahead and eat."
Silas could more or less guess what this little rascal of his was thinking. With a helpless smile, he said reassuringly.
Over the past few days, he had come to understand Togepi a bit more. It looked adorable, sure—but its personality definitely had a mischievous streak, which meant it tended to view other people's behavior through a slightly devilish lens too...
Only then did Togepi relax. It hopped onto the dining table and accepted the ice cream from Bailu's hand, beginning to lick away contentedly.
Bailu instinctively gave it a gentle pat on the body but avoided touching the crown on its head.
Togepi gave her a disdainful look. Whatever, I'll let it slide this time. For the sake of the ice cream, I'll give you a chance.
After a few seconds, it decisively jumped back into Silas's arms.
Woman, your time is up.
Holding Togepi, Silas gave Bailu an apologetic smile. "This little one's a bit shy around strangers. Sorry about that."
"No worries at all. I'm just happy," Bailu replied, her face practically glowing with excitement.
"Ring~"
Silas's wristwatch buzzed with a notification.
"My Pokémon are done recovering. I'll be heading out now," he said after glancing at the message and began to get up.
"Let's add each other as friends," Bailu suggested, sending an invitation.
Silas had no objection. After exchanging contact info, he headed over to Nurse Joy to retrieve his partners.
"Hey, Pyro, do you know if there are any wild Eevee habitats in Kanto? Somewhere near Nameless City, maybe?"
Stepping out of the Pokémon Center, Silas casually called Pyro. After all, Pyro's family specialized in the Eeveelution line—he was bound to know something.
"Huh? You wanna raise an Eevee now? I'm telling you, Flareon's the best! Its ability is Flash Fire—super useful in mirror matches."
"And get this, its flames can reach temperatures of up to 1,700 degrees! They can burn through anything!"
"And another thing…"
As soon as Pyro heard the word "Eevee," he went off like a rocket, rambling nonstop.
"No, it's for a party gift. I was thinking of finding a place with wild Eevee, snagging an egg, and using it as a present."
Silas wasn't entirely lying.
"Ohhh, an Eevee egg, huh? You could've just asked me. Not like they're rare or anything."
Realizing that Silas wasn't planning to raise the Eevee himself, Pyro immediately lost most of his enthusiasm and responded half-heartedly.
"Forget it, I'll go find one myself. Just tell me where they are," Silas rolled his eyes. "Not rare"? Only your family treats Eevee like that.
"Hmm… Nameless City, right? Let me think…" Pyro paused, clearly searching through something. "Found it. Head out the western gate of the city. There's a forest back there. Deep inside—you'll find them."
West side… Silas looked up. "Isn't that Exeggutor Forest?"
"Yeah, that's the one. Our family caught a whole batch of Eevee from there before. I think there should still be plenty left. But their stats weren't great overall, so we haven't been back."
"Got it. I'll check it out. Catch you later," Silas chatted a bit more, then hung up.
So they were right here all along? He sighed. I came back to the city for nothing.
Well, at least he could recover a bit—and this might actually give him more room to maneuver. Running his hand through his bangs, Silas considered his options.
In Exeggutor Forest
Sunlight filtered through the dense foliage, forming dappled patches of light on the forest floor.
Silas moved cautiously through the woods alongside Gigalith, Blaziken, and Snivy—who sat quietly on his shoulder.
They were already approaching the deeper edge of Exeggutor Forest.
Ahead, an odd-looking trail came into view.
"This should be the place," Silas murmured, comparing it to the photo Pyro had sent him. Nodding to himself, he confirmed the match.
The trail looked just like a key: a straight path leading to a circular clearing.
In the center of that circle stood forty to fifty towering trees, forming a miniature grove. It seemed lifeless—no movement, no signs of Pokémon—just oddly shaped and nothing else.
"Giga!"
Gigalith's deep rumble echoed.
"They're hiding, huh? No wonder." Silas nodded slightly.
According to Gigalith, there were definitely signs of Eevee living inside—but they were highly cautious. They'd sensed the group's presence from afar and concealed themselves, making the clearing appear devoid of life.
But Gigalith could sense vibrations through the ground. As long as the targets weren't flying types, there was no escaping its detection.
"Over a dozen of them?" Silas was surprised after Gigalith made a more detailed sweep.
This tiny grove could actually house that many Eevee? You'd never guess from just looking at it.
After some thought, Silas made a decision—to go full devil mode.
"Blaziken, use Flamethrower on that grove. Drive them toward the moss-covered rocks on the other side."
He circled around and gave the instruction.
"Gigalith, set up a Gravity Field here to keep them from escaping this way."
Both Pokémon nodded in acknowledgment.
Given their natural limitations, wild Eevee that haven't evolved rarely reach high strength levels—especially ones raised in the wild like this.
Silas estimated that most of these Eevee were at best around the basic trainer tier. He wasn't concerned about being overpowered.
Inside the Luxury Ball, Togepi's eyes widened as it watched the scene unfold.
With a burst of blazing red flames shooting into the grove, the previously well-hidden Eevee panicked and burst out of their cover.
Driven by the dual threat of fire and pressure, most of the Eevee fled along the exact path Silas had predicted.
Silas silently followed behind with his Pokémon, only occasionally launching minor attacks to give the fleeing Pokémon a bit of a push.
He didn't need all of the Eevee to make it to the moss-covered rock formation. Two or three would suffice.
Luckily, perhaps because the Eevee clan were regulars in this area, they instinctively avoided the Exeggutor territory along the way. Only a few stragglers broke formation.
However, as the distance grew, confusion began to set in among them. Even with Silas's interference, only five Eevee ultimately reached the designated zone.
The rest had long since scattered and vanished.
The Exeggutor that used to reside near that mossy rock were gone—Silas had double-checked beforehand, just in case.
As soon as one of the five Eevee stepped onto the moss-covered stone, its body began to glow with the white light of evolution.
"Yes!" Silas clenched his fist in silent celebration. Only then did he activate the Pokédex's recording function—it was perfectly reasonable to start recording evolution midway through.
Soon, the light faded, revealing a Pokémon that bore traits of both a cat and a fox. It stood before Silas and the other Pokémon.
Its body was a shade of brown, with darker paws. The color between its eyes and ears matched that of its limbs, while its ears and tail looked distinctly leaf-like. Scattered leaves dotted its body, and the long leaf on its forehead stood out as especially prominent.
The four remaining Eevee stared wide-eyed. They had never seen anything like this before, but the scent was unmistakable—it was the same one as their kin before it evolved.
"Blaziken, use Flamethrower on the green one!"
Silas stayed calm as he gave the command. He was still recording, so he couldn't go shouting "Leafeon" just yet.
The Eevee scattered in panic. As for that weird, green version of themselves… well, good luck to it.
Still, even if it had evolved into something strange, it clearly looked a lot stronger now. Maybe we should bring the others to check it out later, they thought. Wild Pokémon weren't dumb.
After all, the stronger you became, the easier it was to survive in the wild and the more the clan could grow. It was a positive cycle.
The freshly evolved Leafeon hadn't even adjusted to its new body when it was hit dead-on by a fire-type move that it was naturally weak against.
"Yee!"
It let out a painful cry—but surprisingly, it hadn't lost the ability to battle.
Silas raised an eyebrow, but before he could say a word, Blaziken followed up with a second Flamethrower.
This time, Leafeon collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Silas threw a Poké Ball.
The red light blinked and shimmered. It rocked on the ground for a full two seconds before the capture was confirmed.
He picked up the Poké Ball, closed the Pokédex, and ended the recording. Only then did Silas give a satisfied nod.
Then, without the slightest bit of hesitation, he turned and left the area.
As for the Eevee egg? Now that he had discovered an entirely new, previously unknown evolution of Eevee, how could he possibly be in the mood to go searching for an egg?
Besides, for the person he was about to meet at the banquet—Silas had an even better gift in mind.
He nearly jogged all the way back to Nameless City's Pokémon Center, humming a tune the entire way. He didn't care about the strange looks he got from passersby.
Heading straight to the video call terminal inside the center, Silas was just about to place the call when his watch buzzed with a new notification.
> Dear Trainer Silas Alaric,
You are cordially invited to a formal event hosted by the Sasaki family...**
It was an invitation. Attached was a message from his mentor:
> "You're almost here based on your route. Hurry over!"
Silas immediately replied with a quick "Got it."
His previously excited mood was suddenly interrupted—but he simply chuckled and continued dialing the call.
"Doo~"
"Hello, this is Professor Oak speaking. Who is this?"
On-screen was a bowl of instant noodles—but the unmistakable voice of Professor Oak echoed through the Pokémon Center.
Hearing that signature voice, all the nearby Trainers instinctively turned to look at the secluded corner where the call was taking place.
"It's me, Silas. Professor, you're pointing the camera at your cup noodles again," Silas said, completely ignoring the curious stares and calling Oak out with a grin.
"Oh! Silas! What's up?" The screen shook as Professor Oak's face came into view.
All around, people gasped in astonishment.
Silas's expression didn't change. "Professor Oak, please check the video I just sent you."
"A video?" Oak replied, puzzled. "Hold on, I'll go take a look."
A strange premonition came over him. Ever since Silas discovered that Cranidos fossil, this kid kept managing to bring him one surprise after another…
