Chapter 164 - Chapter 164: Speculation

"Gigalith, Sand Tomb, Gravity, then Power Gem."

Silas commanded Gigalith with a rather unhurried tone.

"Blaziken, Fire Spin and move in with Fire Punch; Pidgeot, get ready with Hurricane, use Double Team then Aerial Ace."

Of course, this string of orders also indicated that his situation wasn't quite as good as he made it seem.

One trainer and four Pokémon were currently surrounded by seven Exeggutor.

Yet Silas wasn't panicking in the slightest — he even felt like he could shout, "You're the ones who are surrounded!"

If Togepi wasn't still a little weak at protecting itself, he would have even let it come out and stretch its legs.

Seven towering two–meter–tall Exeggutor stood like trees, each with three heads and leafy stalks sprouting from the top, blocking out almost all the surrounding light.

For a moment, it even felt as if the sky had dimmed.

Unfortunately, they just weren't strong enough.

Among the seven, only three had reached the Advance level, while the rest were merely Standard–level.

For ordinary trainers whose teams mirrored Silas's lineup, this would be an impossible situation to handle. Sadly for them, Silas's Pokémon were of generally higher potential.

At this stage, high potential meant better skill control, stronger energy output, and therefore, more devastating strength.

And don't forget — Blaziken was holding a very effective item: Charcoal.

Silas was confident. In fact, he believed he was basically "cheating."

Still, regardless of that, he made the wise choice to hide behind Gigalith.

These Exeggutor's psychic abilities hadn't reached the point where they could target enemies out of visual range, and Gigalith's massive body was enough to completely shield him.

Pure peace of mind.

Gigalith was also the busiest one — periodically refreshing Sand Tomb on the ground, checking whether Gravity was still active, and intermittently gathering light from the gem on its forehead to fire off Power Gem.

Thankfully, Exeggutor didn't resist Rock–type moves the way they resisted Ground–type ones, so the damage was still considerable.

And though Gigalith's physical attack was far superior to its energy–based attacks, Silas decided that now was not the time to let it charge in recklessly.

Meanwhile, Pidgeot and Blaziken attacked from air and land respectively, launching relentless assaults on the seven Exeggutor.

Years of adventuring together had forged deep teamwork — they swiftly focused on one Exeggutor at a time and took them down one by one.

Right, there was also Snivy — the little one was perched on Silas's shoulder, occasionally using Magical Leaf as light harassment.

That's all it could manage. Although Snivy wasn't weak and had grown to Level 15 over the past month, almost ready to evolve, it was still far from matching these Exeggutor.

Also, since it was a Grass–type too, its attacks were greatly diminished against opponents of the same type. Compared to its veteran teammates, Snivy's strikes were pitifully soft.

Once the first Advance–class Exeggutor fell, the rest of the fight was as good as decided.

One after another, the Exeggutor collapsed until all seven lay across the ground, completely covering the area.

Silas wore the smug grin of a villain. "Hmph, that's it?"

At the same time, he very cautiously instructed his adorable Snivy to whip each Exeggutor again with Vine Whip, just to make absolutely sure they'd all properly fainted — only then did he stride out from behind Gigalith.

Snivy shook its head helplessly on his shoulder. Was that really necessary...

"I'm telling you, little one that's called being cautious." Silas rubbed his chin, squeezing through the gaps between the fallen Exeggutor as he motioned for the others to follow.

Soon, he arrived at a peculiar-looking boulder he had spotted earlier.

The rock in front of him was enormous — half his own height and what made it even more odd was the thick layer of moss completely covering its surface.

In a world filled with elemental energy, it was rare to see such a huge boulder covered in moss. Even in rivers, rocks naturally repelled moss with their internal energy totally unlike this one.

Silas rubbed his chin. Something about this reminded him of those mysterious stones from his previous life the kind used to evolve Eevee into Leafeon.

He made a mark on his map, deciding to come back later with an Eevee to test it out.

Then circling around, he picked up a Leaf Stone, checking its quality — 66. Better than nothing.

It had probably been drained by the surrounding Exeggutor, since its energy didn't feel very full anymore.

He casually swapped Snivy's Leaf Stone for this slightly worse one, deciding to use up the low–quality one first learning to be thrifty was how you lived long.

Snivy flicked Silas lightly with its Vine Whip. Men...

Silas patted its head to calm it down, and the little guy obediently placed the new Leaf Stone down, expertly activating Grassy Terrain to help recover its teammates' strength.

Silas stretched his back and glanced at the time. More than two hours had passed. Even after defeating three Exeggutor packs like this, this was the only Leaf Stone he'd found.

And judging by his Pokémon's exhausted looks — even Snivy, who only handled healing afterward, was dead tired — Silas instantly decided it was time to head back.

"Alright, let's go home and rest."

After the Grassy Terrain wore off, Silas spoke out.

His Pokémon led by Pidgeot — visibly relaxed. Exeggutor might not be truly terrifying opponents, but their Psychic sneak attacks meant you could never let your guard down; otherwise a flip in battle could prove disastrous, and that constant alertness was exhausting.

Since their Trainer wanted to return... even better.

Without hesitation, Silas recalled Pidgeot and led the others back the way they came, returning to the Pokécenter in Nameless City.

"Nurse Joy, I'll trouble you with these." Carrying Togepi in his arms, he handed four Luxury Balls onto the tray Nurse Joy offered.

"Please wait in the lounge area for a moment — we'll notify you soon," Nurse Joy responded with a warm smile, reaching out to tease the squirming Togepi in his arms.

"Togi–togi~"

Chansey beside her sighed helplessly.

"Alright, alright, I'm coming, don't rush me, Chansey."

Nurse Joy smiled apologetically toward Silas before quickly turning and heading toward Chansey.

"You sure attract attention, little one."

Silas tickled Togepi with his finger.

"Tcha–ko–ee~!"

Togepi laughed cheerfully, its eyes curved like crescent moons.

Carrying Togepi over to the lounge to sit down, Silas could feel waves of other Trainers' eyes following him across the room.

Silas gave a bitter laugh in his heart… Good grief, this Togepi sure draws attention… Misty's one never used to be this ridiculous, right? Or did she just never show it that much? Or… maybe it's because Brock and Misty were Gym Leaders?

"Hello, my name's Bailu — could I please hold your Togepi for a bit?"

Finally, while Silas was feeding Togepi some pastries, someone struck up a conversation.

It was a girl.

When Silas looked up at her, she greeted him with a bright smile.

"I'm Bailu, from Hoenn. I'm traveling around with the goal of getting to know every kind of Pokémon."

She repeated her words again, and to prove she had no ill intentions, even pulled out her green Pokédex.

After all, not everyone in this world traveled just to challenge the League or become a Pokémon Master. Clearly this girl in front of Silas was such a type.

But — getting to know every Pokémon… what a grand ambition that was! Silas sighed. Because in this world, "get to know" didn't just mean seeing, it meant actual contact.

Smiling back, Silas showed his own red Pokédex.

Even though they weren't from the same region's League, as fellow official Trainers, they were still coworkers, so to speak.

And besides, it looked like she only wanted to pat Togepi. Judging by everyone else fidgeting nearby, they seemed tempted too — this girl named Bailu had just beaten them to the punch.

Seeing Silas respond kindly, her smile bloomed even brighter, like warm sunlight.

"Unfortunately… I'm afraid not."

But Silas's words next made her expression stiffen slightly.

"If Togepi itself doesn't mind, then it's no problem." He paused. "But if you did it here, once you do, everyone else will probably rush up too and it might scare the little one."

Bailu blinked and patted her chest. Good, at least he hadn't rejected her outright.

Togepi were far too rare, and for someone like her — wanting to get to know every Pokémon — this was definitely one she hoped to touch one day.

"Then… let's be friends!" She reached out her hand in front of Silas.

"Silas Alaric, from Viridian City in Kanto — currently traveling with the Kanto Conference as my goal."

Silas smiled and shook her hand politely before letting go.

Bailu naturally took the seat across from him. "So, where did you find your Togepi? It's so cute."

As she spoke, her eyes kept following Togepi's movements.

Togepi glanced at her, then at the puff pastry in its hands, turned its body away, facing Silas's chest, and continued nibbling on the pastry.

"In Fuchsia City's Safari Zone. This little fellow loves sweets — especially ice cream and that sort of thing."

Silas patted Togepi's head and winked at Bailu.

Bailu nodded in understanding. "Safari Zone, huh. Hoenn's got one too on Route 121 near Lilycove City. I've never been to the Fuchsia Safari Zone — are there lots of Pokémon inside?"

While speaking, she tapped at her smart–watch and placed an order for ice cream.

"Loads. You can see most Pokémon native to Kanto there."

Seeing the two chatting so lively, the surrounding crowd slowly gave up approaching, though they still occasionally peeked curiously at the little bit of Togepi still visible.

Soon, Bailu's ice cream arrived.

"Togepi, want some ice cream?" she said with a sweet smile, waving it enticingly.
