ShineGreymon and MirageGaogamon ultimately didn't fuse—because before they could, Argomon had already been beaten down to just a Digi-Egg.
Of course, there was also Kurata II.
Captain Satsuma led the DATS team to apprehend Kurata II, but they were caught off guard when he revealed he was wearing a bomb vest:
"My will… will never be destroyed!"
BOOM!!
His body was obliterated. A spherical crystal shot out of the explosion.
Just as gravity began to pull the sphere down, an invisible force caught it, lifting it gently into a pale white hand.
Moss looked at the orb. Inside, it held an eyeball.
A fragment of a past life.
"So this world has one too… and sure enough, it triggered a disaster I never expected," she murmured.
By now, she was almost certain: every world she visited had one of these fragments.
The Fairy Tail world, the Jackie Chan world—they likely had them too; she just hadn't encountered them yet.
These fragments might be the anchors that allow her to traverse worlds.
In the Dragon Ball world, one fragment had been used to revive Majin Buu. Here, it had fueled Argomon's Super Mega evolution.
In each world, the fragments caused unique disasters.
"Well then… this counts as one of my 81 tribulations. I may not be able to carry these fragments with me, but at least they're good for training."
Focusing her mind, Moss sensed the power of Awakening growing within her.
After stopping a worldwide disaster, this was the kind of hardship required for progressing toward Tripitaka-mon, so her Awakening power surged—enough that she could now forge a tightening headband.
She checked her evolution panel:
[Shakamon: 2%]
As expected, her odds of evolving into Shakamon had increased—though only by 1%. That was harsh.
Then again, Shakamon was the Digital World's Buddha, so it made sense that the path would be difficult.
Most beings would take centuries or even lifetimes to reach that level. Even Tang Sanzang needed ten lifetimes.
For Moss, a hundred months with good luck wouldn't be so bad.
"Cosmic Brainmon, bring me a jelly pouch."
After finishing the jelly, Moss wrote "Great Demon King Seal" on the pouch and used a Magic Sealing Wave to trap the fragment inside.
She tossed the sealed pouch to Cosmic Brainmon for safekeeping.
The next day…
Kudamon reported, "Yggdrasill declined."
After defeating Argomon with the help of heroes from across worlds, Moss had asked Kudamon to reach out to Yggdrasill.
Kudamon eagerly traveled to the Season 5 Digital World, evolved into Sleipmon, and raced to Yggdrasill to explain the Digital Justice League proposal.
Yggdrasill thought for a moment and replied coldly:
"This offers me no benefit."
"But—" Sleipmon tried to argue.
"Say no more."
Sleipmon could only bow and leave. He noticed that Yggdrasill had grown much colder than before—but he didn't pry.
Before returning to the human world, Sleipmon spoke to his fellow Royal Knights.
Their reactions were mixed.
"Super Mega? Hm. There's such a level?" said Omnimon, resting the Garurumon head of his right arm on the WarGreymon head of his left and stroking his chin thoughtfully.
"Another Gallantmon (Crimson Mode)?" the knight in question blinked—surprised, but not disturbed. His species was rare, but not unique. Another one wasn't unthinkable.
"Another UlforceVeedramon with a future mode? Sounds awesome! I wonder if I could reach that form too," Ulforce laughed.
"Definitely not," Examon said with a sigh.
"..."
Unlike Yggdrasill, the Royal Knights showed interest in the Digital Justice League.
Before heading back, Sleipmon asked:
"By the way, what's up with Yggdrasill's personality shift?"
The knights exchanged glances.
Duftmon (SkullKnightmon) spoke up:
"Let me explain. Our master—Yggdrasill—split off its conscience to study DigiSoul among humans. What remains is purely logic."
"I see."
Though the Royal Knights serve under Yggdrasill in name, they really just take missions—it doesn't impact their day-to-day work that Yggdrasill had cast away its heart.
Back to the present—
"Yggdrasill actually refused?" Moss was stunned.
She hadn't expected that. She thought the benefits were obvious.
Sure, the Digital Worlds from Seasons 1, 3, 4, and V-Tamer weren't as advanced as the Season 5 world, but joining the Digital Justice League, with cross-dimensional collaboration, would be more beneficial than not.
Maybe Yggdrasill just thought the League's "vibe" didn't meet its standards?
Moss thought about it for a moment—then stopped.
"Whatever. If it won't join, then it won't join."
Kudamon didn't share the details of the refusal, but offered a suggestion:
"You could have DATS join the Digital Justice League."
As both a Royal Knight and a DATS member, Kudamon would effectively join through DATS's participation.
"Good idea," Moss nodded. "I'll handpick some DATS members to join."
As Kurata II said before his death—Kurata-types would never truly disappear. So it wasn't wise to let all of DATS in.
Moss reached out to DATS offices worldwide, asking them to recommend exceptional candidates. After screening them using her Insight, she selected a group to join.
She had hoped to complete this in five days—but it ended up taking ten.
Still, she had brought in a strong crop of talent, spreading the DigiSoul system across Digital Worlds and strengthening the League.
Her title of League Secretary-General was well-earned.
[Crossworld Countdown: 5 Days]
With her next transfer approaching, Moss continued her interdimensional exploration, bringing Cosmic Brainmon, Goblimon, and others along.
After dozens of strange and uneventful worlds, she finally arrived in a brand-new Digital World.
It was desolate—as if a great war had just ended.
And it had. This was a post-apocalyptic Digital World, several years after its near-total destruction.
Most Digimon here were In-Training or Rookie level. Even Champion-level Digimon were rare.
Its current overseer was a Mega—GrannyDigimon.
A Vaccine-type, ancient Mega Digimon.
Moss asked what had happened.
GrannyDigimon replied:
"A few years ago, a mutant Digimon called the Shapeshifter Beast nearly destroyed this world. It could copy the powers of any Digimon it scanned—and stack those powers, becoming stronger than the originals. Terrifying stuff."
"Wait a minute…"
Moss remembered. This world appeared in a special episode of Digimon V-Tamer 01, where Tai and Takuya met.
GrannyDigimon thought Moss was shocked by the Shapeshifter's strength and chuckled:
"Don't worry. I summoned two saviors with my sorcery—they worked together to defeat it."
Those saviors, of course, were Tai Yagami (V-Tamer) and Takuya Kanbara.
Moss already knew the story and immediately invited GrannyDigimon to join the Digital Justice League. She happily accepted.
With help from other Digital Worlds, her world could recover faster.
After handling her League registration, Moss noticed the jewel around her neck.
She had already met two Rosemon: one evolved from Palmon (Season 1), the other from Lalamon (Season 5).
Both wore a pink gem called Tiphereth, symbolizing love and beauty, said to grant eternal youth and strength.
Kind of like a Dog Talisman.
That's what Moss thought of when she saw GrannyDigimon wearing the same gem.
"GrannyDigimon… I heard you used to be Rosemon. Is that true?"
Granny laughed. "It is."
…Time spares no one.
The once-whip-wielding floral queen had become a broom-wielding old lady.
Even Digimon, as digital lifeforms, age and weaken.
Moss understood this—but if Rosemon wore the Tiphereth gem, shouldn't she have stayed young?
Maybe the gem was useless?
Unlikely.
With all the strange artifacts in the Digital World, it made no sense for a legendary treasure to do nothing.
"Then why did you become like this?" she asked.
GrannyDigimon sighed.
"A curse."
"A curse?"
"The curse of love."
Moss staggered backward.
Love… makes you age?! What a terrifying curse!
She chuckled, brushing it off, and changed the topic.
"By the way, that summoning spell you used to call saviors—I'm curious. Can I learn it?"
GrannyDigimon smiled:
"That's a secret technique of our kind—only a GrannyDigimon can master it. It lets you summon what your heart truly longs for."
That sounded as powerful as Shenron from Dragon Ball. Moss definitely wanted to learn it.
But if only GrannyDigimon could use it…
Did that mean she'd have to become one too?
Moss looked down and began thinking seriously.
