Chapter 58 - Verne's sadness

Meanwhile, Fern was bent over, clenching his hands tightly and murmuring to himself: "Why am I so weak? My sister is being harassed and bullied, and I can't do anything. I'm a useless brother. How can I call myself a man when I can't even protect my sister?"

Helena, noticing the sorrow in Fern, approached him and said: "Don't be sad. I'm sure that one day you'll become strong."

She thought to herself: What a good boy, blaming himself for what's happening to his sister.

Kairos and Isabel exited the classroom, and Kairos immediately noticed Fern's state. He approached, placed his hand on Fern's head, and said: "Come on, let's go."

The three of them walked together, Fern holding back tears. Kairos ordered Isabel to enter first, then he and Fern headed to the training hall.

Kairos spoke softly but firmly: "I know you're sad. I know the feeling of helplessness and frustration when you can't do anything. I know you feel like crying, and I know the pain of losing your parents at a young age, and seeing your sister suffer in front of you is unbearable for a boy like you."

Kairos stepped closer and embraced Fern, telling him: "Let it all out."

Fern screamed and wept violently, tears pouring endlessly. Kairos urged him: "Come on, scream. Let everything in your heart out. Remember this moment well as you start training. When you want to stop, remember this pain, this feeling of weakness."

"You must become stronger. You must take revenge. You must protect your sister."

Kairos' words ignited a fire in Fern's heart. Fern hugged him tightly and said: "Don't worry, I'll make you a man everyone fears when they see you. I'll make you so strong your name will reach the ends of the earth. From today, you'll be like my little brother. I'll take care of you, and you'll never feel alone or wronged as long as you're alive."

Fern stopped crying and said: "You always do everything for us. Tell me why—my heart needs to know. I always feel like you suffer more than us. If I'm your little brother, please tell me why you help us this way."

Kairos replied: "Honestly, I didn't want to tell you, but I will, because you will be my disciple and my brother, and you will follow me wherever I go."

"When I was five, my adoptive parents were killed, their heads cut off, my village destroyed, and my adoptive brother captured and tortured to this day."

"You two are also orphans, like us. But what I admire most is you. That's why I did all this—for you to become my follower."

At that moment, as Kairos recalled the death of his parents, a deadly intent radiated from him, felt by every servant in the mansion—it was heavy, oppressive, and terrifying.

Even the cook sensed it and raised his weapon, believing someone was trying to kill them. Zila quickly ran to the cook and said: "The killing intent is coming from the training hall!"

The servants asked: "Who's in the training hall?"

"Kaïros and Fern," one replied.

They approached the training hall cautiously, thinking Kairos was either fighting or planning to kill someone.

Meanwhile, Fern continued to embrace Kairos.

Fern said: "I should have comforted you for what happened to you, but instead you're comforting me over trivial matters now. My sorrow isn't even close to the sadness in your heart."

Kairos replied: "I swear, from today onward I'll become very strong. You'll never see me cry again. And I'll repay your kindness. I'll go anywhere with you, even to hell itself."

Fern nodded: "Thank you. I'll go rest now. Don't forget—you'll come early tomorrow morning to train with me."

Kairos: "Yes, I will."
