Queen Fortuna paced the room, her gown swaying with each step, waiting for her maid to return with the news she needed. The king had sent her away before deciding Marissa's fate. He never missed a chance to humiliate her because of Princess Katrina, but that would soon be over. She would see to it herself. She would remove Katrina once and for all, then watch what the king would dare to do.
The door creaked open and Angelina stepped in, her head bowed, her face heavy with worry. Something in her expression made Fortuna's stomach tighten.
"Speak," Fortuna ordered, her voice sharp. She clenched her hands so tightly her nails dug into her palms. With that look on Angelina's face, it could only mean one thing — the king had shown Marissa mercy.
"Marissa was thrown into the prison," Angelina said quietly. She hated to see her queen treat another woman this way, but defying the queen of Xylonia was unthinkable.
