Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 /First Mission.\

N and Jill began making their way up the stairs in silence. The quiet stretched for a while—until Jill finally spoke, curiosity clear in her voice.

Jill: "Are you sure you're... mentally okay?"

Y/N: "Huh? What do you mean?"

Jill: "You know what I mean. You're so... calm and happy. Like you're actually enjoying all this."

Y/N: "Because I *am* enjoying this! It's like a dream come true! A free world, nonstop action, fighting for survival, walking the line between life and death! My heart's racing from fear and horror—and I love it! Every second of it makes me taste the other side of life!"

He said it all with such excitement, a wide smile stretching across his face. Jill stared at him, clearly shocked and confused... but eventually, a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

Suddenly, the radio crackled to life. Jill picked it up.

Carlos: "Jill, it's me again. You two topside yet?"

Jill: "Working on it. So, what's the plan?"

Carlos: "The old man's got me clearing tracks. Can you two get the subway infrastructure back online?"

Jill: "And how exactly do we do that?"

Carlos: "Let's start with restoring power. I'll guide you to the substation once you hit the main road."

Jill: "Copy that. Let's move fast."

She put the radio away and turned to Y/N.

Jill: "You get all that?"

Y/N: "Yammmm... yes!"

Jill: "What did he say again?"

Y/N: "Kill zombies!"

Jill: "This is going to be a *long* night."

They exited the subway, ducking under the half-closed shutters. Outside, people were panicking—some running, others crawling for safety. One of them even squeezed through the shutters behind them.

Y/N: "Pardon us. The escape car's this way."

Jill: "Come on, Y/N. We need to get that train moving."

A zombie suddenly stumbled toward them. Jill raised her pistol, but Y/N stopped her with a hand.

Y/N: "I got this."

He dashed forward and began beating the living shit out of him

Zombie: "WHAO!! WOAAAH!! AHHHH!!"

Jill: "Did I just... hear the zombie scream for help?"

Y/N stood up, blood on his fists, flashing a big thumbs-up and a wide grin.

Y/N: "👍😁👍"

Jill: "Why is this horrible and cute at the same time...?"

A little while later, they spotted the power station in the distance. The two took off running, but a barricade and flames blocked their path.

Y/N: "Carlos, good news. We've reached the main avenue. Is that the power station ahead?"

Carlos: "If you're talking about the big transmission tower, then yep. That's the substation. You'll need to circle around through the alley to your right."

Jill: "You mean the alley that's currently *on fire*?"

Y/N: "Sounds about right. We'll need something to put it out."

Carlos: "Well, maybe a tall drink of water like Jill could douse the flames."

He chuckled.

Y/N: "...I don't get it."

Jill: "Can you shut your mouth and be useful for once?!"

Y/N: "So... fire hose?"

Jill turned around and froze.

Jill: "Behind us."

Y/N turned too—zombies were scaling the fence or knocking it down.

Y/N: "Oh-ho! This is gonna be fun!"

Jill: "Step back. I have a plan."

They moved away from the fence. Jill aimed and shot at a red barrel. It exploded, incinerating the incoming zombies.

Y/N: "Why is there a red explosive barrel in the middle of the street?"

Jill: "They probably set them up to deal with the hordes. Let's make use of every one we find."

They proceeded down the now-cleared path. Y/N continued throwing hands at any zombie that crossed him, while Jill popped precise headshots with her pistol. After clearing the area, they stopped in front of a shop called "Moon's Donuts."

Y/N: "Perfect! I was getting hungry."

Jill: "Focus. We need to get to the power station."

Y/N ignored her and ran to the counter, eyeing the many donuts behind the glass. He smashed through it without hesitation, grabbed one, and shoved it into his mouth—glass shards and all.

Jill could *swear* she heard a crunch.

Y/N: "Want one?"

Jill: "No thanks. I'm good."

Y/N: "You sure? Might be the best donut I've ever had!"

Jill: "I'd rather focus on getting out of this city."

Y/N: "Okay..." *crack crack crack crack*

While Y/N continued eating what sounded like pure glass, Jill searched the store and found a handgun behind the counter. She reloaded and holstered it. Then she tossed something to Y/N.

Jill: "Found some ammo. And this."

She threw him a right-hand glove. He caught it, removed the bandages from his hand, and slipped the glove on.

Y/N: "That's what I'm talkin' about."

They exited through the back door. Across the street, they saw a door labeled "Kite Bros Railway" and a staircase leading up to the second floor of the building opposite.

Y/N: "I'll check out that place."

Jill: "Alright. I'll see what I can find in Kite Bros."

Y/N: "Let's see what we've got."

Jill entered the railway building. Y/N climbed the stairs and went into a room—part of the stairway was blocked, but there was still an open door nearby.

Y/N: "Hm."

He opened it—only for a zombie to lunge at him. Y/N caught it by the neck just before it could bite him.

Y/N: "Close one."

He slammed the zombie into the wall repeatedly, then finished it off with a punch.

Y/N: "I LOVE my hands!"

He looked around the room when his radio buzzed to life.

Jill: "Y/N."

Y/N: "AH! Who are you?! How do you know my name?!"

Jill: "It's me, you dumbass! I found a fire hose. We can finally put out that fire."

Y/N: "Oh, okay! Meet me at the fire place then."

Jill: "On my way."

He clipped the radio to his belt and moved through the upper level. More zombies appeared along the catwalk, but he fought through them with his usual fists-of-fury style. Eventually, he performed a thrust punch that sent a group of zombies flying off the roof.

Y/N: "Strike!"

He continued forward, found a ladder, and kicked it down. After climbing down, he saw Jill already extinguishing the fire.

Y/N: "Jill!"

He ran to hug her, but she stopped him with a hand to the face.

Jill: "Good, you're alive. The way's clear—we can reach the substation."

Y/N: "Awesome!"

They entered a garage and spotted a small room with a chest, and bolt cutters hanging on the wall.

Suddenly, a sound came from the next room.

Jill: "Is someone in there?"

Y/N: "Could be a survivor... or a zombie."

Jill raised her gun while Y/N snapped the chain lock with the bolt cutters. They stepped inside and found a wounded U.B.C.S. soldier lying against the wall.

Jill rushed over to check his injuries.

Jill: "You're U.B.C.S.?"

Soldier: "Yeah—careful, careful."

Y/N: "Wait... is that a bite?"

Soldier: "No, no! I'm not infected! I swear!"

Y/N: "Easy. We're not jumping to conclusions."

Jill: "We need to—"

Soldier: "No, no, no! Please, wait—!"

BANG!

It was too late. A single gunshot echoed as the soldier dropped limp, killed by a tall man with white hair who had entered the room unnoticed.

Y/N: "Damn it!"

Jill looked stunned, then glared at the man with fury.

Jill: "What the fuck?!"

Nicholai: "He was infected."

Jill: "He *might* have been infected."

Y/N: "You could've let us check first!"

His fists clenched tight.

Nicholai: "Are all of you civilians and S.T.A.R.S. this soft? No wonder most of you are dead."

Y/N: "Having a soft heart is what makes us human. No one deserves to die without a chance."

Nicholai turned to Y/N with a cold glare.

Nicholai: "He would've turned. Where's your sense of self-preservation?"

Jill: "Maybe it's up your ass."

Nicholai stepped forward, furious—but Y/N stepped in front of Jill, blocking him.

Y/N: "Do it. I dare you."

They locked eyes for a moment, then Nicholai turned away and walked off.

Nicholai: "Go back to the subway station. We don't need bleeding hearts like you getting in the way."

Once he was gone, Y/N turned to Jill.

Y/N: "I already hate that guy."

Jill: "You and me both."

She raised her pistol and sighed.

Jill: "He's not worth it. Let's just focus on reaching the substation."
