Ace just nodded. "Yeah."
Zara's grip on her phone tightened as she slowly sat back on the table, unsure how to process it all. Her hands trembled slightly as she bit her finger, eyes clouded with worry.
"Maybe I should never have returned," she whispered. "I'm putting my whole family in danger."
Ace knelt before her and gently took her hands to ground her. "No, you're not. None of this is your fault. And like I said... for all we know, this might be the path to a hidden truth."
Zara gave a weak nod. "Yeah. You're right. Amos said that too. He told me I might be opening a past I wasn't ready for."
"He said that?" Ace raised a brow. "Then why didn't you take it seriously? You could've saved yourself a lot of trouble. Maybe even visited the kids sooner."
"How was I supposed to know what he meant? It was just jewelry—meant to be worn."
Ace didn't press further. Instead, he asked casually, "How about we go golfing tomorrow?"
Zara hesitated, her skepticism and fear evident.
