"Would you kill a child just because they lightly touched you?"
A calm voice.
An indifferent posture.
As if simply stating a fact.
Bang!
Darkseid stopped when he saw the green wall blocking his path.
Sinestro's ring glowed green once again.
He suppressed the fear in his heart with sheer willpower.
"I am a Green Lantern. I fear nothing! From now on, I won't let you take another step forward."
A giant, dozens of meters tall, materialized and punched Darkseid.
Bang!
Darkseid didn't move an inch. Instead, the giant's attacking arm shattered into fragments.
Then, countless black gun barrels emerged from Darkseid's massive body. Dazzling laser beams burst out like a torrential downpour, raining down on him from all directions.
"…Now this I can feel," Darkseid remarked.
All the previous attacks by Green Lanterns felt like being pelted by balloons.
But now, just Sinestro alone made him feel like he was being struck by a storm.
Superman + Darkseid—this fusion's defense was truly terrifying.
Seeing that the attack was ineffective, a prison construct appeared and trapped Chino inside.
Sinestro dragged it and flew toward space.
Bang!
Darkseid casually shattered the prison and grabbed the charging Sinestro by the throat.
Crack!
"AAAHHHHH!"
Sinestro screamed in agony.
Darkseid crushed his hand—ring and all—into dust.
He then glanced at the remaining surviving Green Lanterns below, unleashing a mental shockwave.
One by one, their eyes rolled back as they collapsed into unconsciousness.
"Do you desire power? A force greater than that of the Green Lantern ring?"
Sinestro was stunned, but quickly refused.
He wasn't yet the future leader of the Yellow Lantern Corps—he still believed in justice and fairness as a Green Lantern.
"I won't yield to evil."
"You think what you're guarding is truly justice?" Darkseid chuckled and carried Sinestro through space.
"What do you mean?" Sinestro didn't believe him—but he also felt Darkseid had no reason to lie.
"What is justice? It only exists in contrast to evil. If one day, evil disappears, would justice still exist?
It would—because, by then, the greatest justice will become evil."
Darkseid laughed.
He had taken an interest in Sinestro.
Or rather, in the future leader of the Yellow Lantern Corps.
Sinestro understood the implication—he was saying the Green Lantern Corps was the greatest evil.
But Sinestro didn't believe it. After so many years as a Green Lantern, how could he not know what the Corps really was?
Chino said nothing more—no words could match the persuasiveness of truth.
Outside the Guardians' temple, Chino set Sinestro down.
"Stay here. If you run, I'll massacre Planet Oa."
He left a concealment rune and a voice-transmission rune on Sinestro.
Then Chino walked into the temple.
The so-called temple looked rather simple—a green circular platform surrounded by towering columns.
Atop each column sat a small blue figure with a disproportionately large head, their elevated position forcing all visitors to look up at them.
"You're not Darkseid," one of the Guardians spoke.
"Reason?" Chino asked.
"Darkseid shows no mercy. Stranger, what is your purpose?"
"Hand over the method for creating power rings."
"Impossible. Such power must not fall into the hands of an evil being like you."
"Hahahaha! Evil? The birth of Parallax (Yellow Lantern Entity), imprisoning the original Green Lantern Atrocitus, inserting a yellow weakness into every ring, concealing the existence of Larfleeze (Orange Lantern Corps), the massacre of Sector 666 (birth of the Red Lanterns), prohibiting investigation into the prophecy of Blackest Night…
Sacrificing your own commander as tribute to Darkseid, striking a deal to let him rule in exchange for peace.
And you call me evil? Isn't that hilarious?"
Still wearing Darkseid's appearance, Chino laughed heartily. Even the combined evil deeds of all the villain organizations in Marvel paled in comparison to what these little blue men had done.
Outside, Sinestro clutched his injured hand, his pupils shrinking. Most of these things—he had never heard of them.
Though he knew a little about the events of Sector 666, didn't the official report blame Darkseid?
No… it was all fake. But the Guardians couldn't possibly have done those things, could they?
"How do you know all this? We covered our tracks flawlessly."
Hearing the Guardians' admission, Sinestro stood frozen, staring at the temple in disbelief.
"Don't worry about how I know. Just give me what I want. Or this information will spread across the universe. How many do you think will come to kill you then?"
Chino smirked.
The Guardians' expressions didn't change, but one of them said:
"You shouldn't have come alone."
In the next moment, the green platform beneath Chino's feet lit up. A beam of green light shot skyward, piercing the clouds.
Anywhere else, they might not have been able to do anything—but this was the temple, directly above the Central Power Battery.
(Note: The little blue men are actually stronger than most Green Lanterns.)
Suddenly, several Guardians clutched their backs in pain and fell.
"This angle suits me better."
Chino casually sat in one of their seats, now looking down at the Guardians.
"If you won't give it to me, I'll just take it."
Omega Beams!
Beams of energy shot from Chino's eyes, zigzagging through the air and hitting several Guardians.
"AAAHHHH!"
Searing agony shot through their bodies as they were vaporized in an instant by the intense heat.
Yet, eerily, their bodies reappeared.
And again—they burned, died, and were reborn.
Screaming, over and over, their souls shattered and reformed.
"This move is great. I should let Doomsday try it next."
Chino was very pleased with the results.
[He was a torch in hell for a whole year—probably already insane. Would this still work on him?]
"No worries, I can heal him."
Chino had no intention of letting him off. Every time the soul was about to collapse, Hell would inject energy to keep it alive.
It had even become a tourist attraction in Hell.
While chatting with Venom, the Guardians had already died and been reborn hundreds of times. Their minds were completely broken.
Chino finally stopped their torture.
"Now give me the method to create power rings… and the location of the Anti-Matter Universe."
After obtaining what he needed, Chino didn't kill the Guardians. He changed back into Darkseid's form and left.
He landed before the kneeling Sinestro.
"Do you want power? Power to destroy true evil?"
Quote of the Chapter:"When the protectors become the perpetrators, justice is merely the mask of tyranny."
