Chapter 271 - Chapter 269: Darkseid Descends Upon Oa

Half an hour later...

Kino put away the camera with great satisfaction.

The others still seemed to be relishing the moment.

Only Batman remained expressionless, his presence so ominous it was suffocating.

"I've finished asking my questions. Now, everyone, come take a big group photo with me," Kino requested his final favor.

The superheroes nodded in agreement.

But the group photo turned out to be something far from what they expected.

"Flash, lie down here. Zatanna, hold the blood pack in your mouth. Superman, let me step on you for a moment. Batman, come over to my side..."

The final photo showed Kino grinning maniacally, lifting Batman into the air by the throat, stepping on Superman, while the rest of the Justice League lay "slain" around him.

It looked like the Demon King had massacred the Justice League.

"Batman, here's a free tip. Your adopted son isn't dead."

Batman's pupils shrank. He had just opened his mouth to ask something when he was suddenly back on Earth—Kino had vanished without a trace.

High above Earth, just as Kino was about to leave, he sensed someone watching him. The gaze swept past him and looked downward.

His eyes turned deep and mysterious.

Piercing through time, he looked into the past—and saw the observer.

Doctor Fate.

Kino shattered the threads of fate.

"Don't peek around. The more you see, the sooner you die."

Kino then took out his personal battleship and the Mother Box from this world, inputting the coordinates for the planet Oa.

Why research when you can just take?

Planet Oa

A massive celestial body constantly erupting with green energy. At its center was the Power Battery—the core energy source for all Green Lanterns across the universe—a colossal green lantern furnace.

Suddenly, a boom tube opened in the sky.

A patrolling fish-like Green Lantern saw the anomaly and flew toward it.

"This is Oa. Unauthorized entry is forbidden," he warned.

"You're telling me to leave then?" came the reply.

A towering figure slowly emerged.

A three-meter-tall gray-skinned giant, red flames burning in his eyes.

"Darkseid!"

The fish-like Green Lantern instantly recognized him and sounded the alarm.

Fully aware of the terrifying power this being wielded, the Lantern didn't hesitate. He raised his ring and fired a dazzling beam of green energy.

Omega Beams.

Red rays burst from Darkseid's eyes, overwhelming the green energy and striking the ring.

BOOM!

The Green Lantern ring shattered into pieces.

The fish-man Lantern fell from the sky, powerless, but was rescued by arriving reinforcements.

More and more green lights ignited across Oa like falling stars streaking toward the sky. Within seconds, over a thousand Green Lanterns had surrounded Darkseid.

(Movie canon says there are 3,600 Lanterns in total, so this number is actually pretty high.)

"Darkseid, this is not your domain. Leave at once," warned Sinestro, the leader, in a cold voice, his ring glowing with radiant green light.

Darkseid stood with hands clasped behind his back.

"And what if I say no?"

The Green Lanterns gritted their teeth. Though Darkseid was infamous across the universe, with so many of them here, they didn't believe they would lose.

One by one, their rings lit up with green light, bathing the surroundings in emerald radiance.

"Attack!"

Countless constructs appeared—gigantic warships, meteors, bullets, swords, and more.

The sky above Oa was filled with these creations, forming a torrential green wave that surged toward Darkseid.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!

A thunderous barrage of explosions echoed across the skies, as if the entire planet was being torn apart. The area where Darkseid stood erupted in blinding flames and thick smoke.

The fierce assault lasted a long time before finally easing.

Some Lanterns had to cancel their constructs due to energy depletion.

In their minds, no one could possibly survive an attack of this scale from such a united force.

But the veterans among them didn't lower their guard.

They didn't believe Darkseid came here to die.

He either wasn't afraid of their attacks—or he had a means of escape.

They preferred to believe the latter.

The smoke slowly cleared. Through the thinning haze, a tall silhouette began to emerge.

The Green Lanterns swallowed nervously. No way...

The figure became clearer—it was Darkseid!

He slowly opened his eyes and revealed a terrifying grin.

"Tell me... are you afraid?"

All the Green Lanterns stood frozen in shock and disbelief.

Impossible. He was completely unharmed!

Could they really win against such a foe?

Doubt began to spread. The light from their rings began to dim.

Sinestro knew that if this continued, the Green Lantern Corps would lose half their strength—without Darkseid even lifting a finger.

He raised his ring, sending a green beam shooting into the sky.

And then began the Green Lantern oath:

"In brightest day, in blackest night,No evil shall escape my sight.Let those who worship evil's might,Beware my power—Green Lantern's light!"

The others snapped out of their despair, raising their rings and chanting the oath, their willpower solidifying, their rings glowing brighter.

Darkseid listened to the chant quietly. His eyes, cold and emotionless, briefly showed a flicker of... speechlessness.

Omega Beams.

Suddenly, the deadly rays exploded from his eyes again, zigzagging through the air in impossible angles, aiming directly for the Lantern rings.

CRACK!

With crisp snaps, one ring after another was destroyed—shattered into fragments and dissolving into green light.

The Lanterns, now unprotected, plummeted from the sky like broken kites.

Some crashed into buildings, others hit the ground directly.

In a blink, the sky was empty—except for Darkseid and Sinestro.

Sinestro's sweat poured down his face. He gritted his teeth, trying to stay calm, but the flickering light from his ring betrayed his fear.

Darkseid slowly floated forward, expressionless.

As Darkseid closed in, Sinestro's entire body went rigid—he couldn't move a single finger.

Time seemed to freeze. Silence blanketed the world.

Only when Darkseid flew past him did Sinestro finally breathe again.

Then came the shame. How could a Green Lantern fear death?

"Why didn't you kill us?"

Though their rings were destroyed, Green Lanterns were physically enhanced. A fall like that wouldn't kill them.

Quote of the Chapter:

"True fear isn't just the absence of courage—it's the presence of something too great to fight."
