Melissa went out for a coffee break. "A cup of espresso and a croissant" Melissa said to the lady behind the counter.
"Of course right away" She said with a smile. Melissa got her order and left the shop.
"I wonder what Antonio would like to eat... Oh maybe I should call him" Melissa said. A black van pulled up infront of Melissa.
Some men dragged her inside the van. Melissa slowly opens her eyes, the first thing she noticed was that the room was dark.
There was a lamp that flickered across Melissa's face blurring her vision. "Where.... Am... I?" Melissa asked disoriented. She tried to move but her legs and hands were tied to a chair.
"It's nice to finally get to meet the famous secretary of Antonio Castello" A man said. "Dude, you kidnapped me in broad daylight" Melissa said in disgust.
"My name is Don.... Nice to make your acquaintance" He said. "I don't give a fuck" Melissa said. Don laughs menacingly.
"You're probably wondering why I brought you here" Don said. "I'm pretty certain it not so I can become part of your poorly decorated warehouse" Melissa said.
"You are here because I've watched you for four months..."
"Obsessive much..." Melissa interrupted him. Don slapped her. "You are lucky I am in a good mood today.... I'll make this short.... Antonio has been handling some deals with the Japanese Yakuza.... What is it?"
"How should I know?" Melissa asked. "I am going to make this easy for you.... Tell me everything I need to know or I'll make it hurt"
"Your threat only make me wet" Melissa said flirtatiously. Don nods to his men.
They attached wires on Melissa's body. "Do it" Don said. Immediately Melissa's entire body was electrocuted. She gasped hard for air the moment the machine went off.
"Tell me where they're hiding the shipment.... For the past six months Antonio has carried you to witness the entire operation going down.... All I want to know is when is the Japanese deal happening"
Melissa smiles weakly. "I have told you before I don't know.... Turns out Antonio doesn't trust me the way you think" Melissa said.
Melissa screams in pain as she was electrocuted again. "Doing this changes nothing.... The fact still remains that I have no idea what you're talking about" Melissa said.
Don left the room but he gave his men permission to deal with her without mercy. Melissa screams, she grunts but never did she beg.
Her breathing came with shallow breaths. They electrocuted her for what felt like hours. She lost strength, she wasn't able to keep her eyes open.
Don returned to the room, each minute that passes he grew more frustrated. He brought out a knife and placed it inside the fire.
Don looks at Melissa with a devilish smirk. "If you are useless to me then I suggest I'll have to disfigure you and send you back to Antonio"
Don brought out the knife from the fire. "This is your last chance to change your mind" Don said. Melissa didn't ulter a single word. "As you wish"
Don cut Melissa's arm with the knife causing her to scream so loud in pain. She could feel her skin melting, heck she could smell her burning skin like a roasted beef.
Don grew bored of having her so his men drove her to a street and threw her out of the car. She slowly stood to her feet trying to balance herself. She could only wonder how her survival was just a miracle.
Melissa went to a mall to get new clothes to change into. She had no intentions of telling Antonio what had happened.
She finally returned to work. "Where have you been?" A colleague asked. "I had food poisoning... But it's nothing serious" Melissa said.
Melissa excused herself and went to the bathroom. She stares at herself in the mirror. "I look like shit" She whispers to herself.
She folds her shirt to reveal the wound on both her hands. She couldn't treat it by herself because she could still feel her skin melting.
Melissa splashed water on her face before returning to her office. "Melissa... Mr Antonio wants you in his office" Gloria said. "Okay... Thank you" Melissa calmly said.
Melissa went to Antonio's office, she knocked gently before entering. "You sent for me, sir" Melissa said in a professional tone.
Antonio was silent for a while making Melissa to be confused. "Do I look stupid to you?" Antonio asked.
"Umm... Am I supposed to answer that question?" Melissa asked. "The one thing I hate is betrayal" Antonio said.
"Okay...." Melissa said nervously. "I'll give you five seconds to confess to your crime and I might forgive you" Antonio said.
"What are you talking about?" Melissa asked in confusion. "Your time is running out" Antonio said eerily.
"I have no idea what you're talking about.... If that would be all then I'll return back to my desk" Melissa said. "Where were you?" Antonio asked.
"I went to grab a cup of coffee and some croissants" Melissa said. Antonio slapped Melissa pretty hard across the face.
"What.... What was that for?" Melissa asked. "I hate liars.... I trusted you but you sold me out to my enemy. Are you that desperate for money that you'd go through any length to get it"
"I.... What do you mean?.... I didn't betray anyone.... I.... I..."
"Save it.... I thought you were someone I could trust"
"How dense could you be? I've worked for you for six months.... I didn't betray you then why would I do it now? You know what? I can't do this anymore, I quit..... I can't believe I risk my life for a man who doesn't even trust me" Melissa said.
Melissa walked to the door but she suddenly paused. She walked back to Antonio and slapped him too.
"Didn't you mother teach you to never lay that filthy hands of yours on a lady.... I don't give a fuck who you are... I don't care if you're a mafia or the devil himself but you are nothing but a stupid piece of shit who doesn't trust anyone, not even himself.... I was electrocuted and cut like a piece of meat but do you actually care? NO... no need for me to clear my desk, I'll leave the same way I came"
Melissa went back home, she didn't bother looking back. Later in the afternoon Abuela called Melissa to meet her in her house.
Melissa reluctantly agreed. Abuela sat across Melissa. "What's this I hear about you quitting?" Abuela asked. "I'm sure your grandbaby must have filled you in already" Melissa replied.
"You betrayed the family" Abuela said. "I didn't betray anyone.... If anything I'm the one who was betrayed.... God damn it...." Melissa said.
"What do you mean?" Abuela asked. "Abuela I want to thank you for the opportunity you have given me.... Working along side your family and gaining your trust has been the best days of my life"
"Now that I am accused of betraying you I have two requests..... If you eventually find out I'm telling the truth then I'll resign. Secondly, this shouldn't affect Sofia in anyway" Melissa said.
"Very well" Abuela replied. Melissa brought out a tiny recording. "I was able to record everything that happened.... I noticed people stalking me so I decided to record everything so I can give it to the police..... Now I see it's more useless than I thought" Melissa said.
Abuela took the device. "I will accept the second request but the first one is denied.... You shall be compensated for the troubles caused after this investigation" Abuela said.
"You don't get... Your grandson slapped me so hard that I found myself in heaven.... I can't.... I can't risk my neck for this family any longer" Melissa said. "You know too much.... His enemies knows that you're his closest ally" Abuela said.
"I never asked for this... I never asked to be dragged inside the heart of your shady business. Now I can't leave? You have got to be fucking with me right now" Melissa said.
