"Wen Qiqi was your mother?"
Professor Zhao's question carried an emotion Xia Weiwei could not immediately identify.
There was surprise, but there was also sadness and something resembling nostalgia.
"Yes," Weiwei answered. "Did you know her?"
Professor Zhao lowered her eyes to the assessment paper.
"Your mother studied at Capital University."
Weiwei knew that her mother had been a jewelry designer, but she had never learned much about her university years.
After Wen Qiqi's death, no one in the Xia family spoke about her unless Grandfather Xia was present.
Fang Zhang removed most of her photographs from the Xia residence, claiming that seeing them made Xia Mo sad. At the time, Weiwei had believed her.
She only understood now that Fang Zhang had probably wanted to erase every reminder of the woman whose place she had stolen.
"I didn't know she studied here," Weiwei admitted.
Professor Zhao looked at her.
"You were very young when she died."
"I was eleven."
