Chapter 108 - A Promise

Ashly gets Angry, but she tries to calm herself down again. They must have their reasons as to why they left Lucas behind, she hasn't heard their side of the story yet. "Alright then, explain to me your side of the story, and don't leave anything out." Ashly says.

"I'm not here to hurt you as that would break Lucas's heart. I wouldn't hurt you two even if by what I gathered are complete jerks." Ashly says to ease them as they seem nervous to be around her.

"Alright then I guess I'll start with the day we left Lucas, that seems like an appropriate start." Fred said as he and Jane back away slowly. "The reason we left was because we just couldn't afford to keep the farm going. I do hope that Lucas did tell you that as we didn't make enough money, and we were desperate."

"For weeks we had many discussions about our situation, and ways to solve it. It wasn't until I first mentioned it, and of course it was hard to swallow it. It was a forbidden topic we disputed about once every few weeks or so." Fred said, but Ashly doesn't seem to be buying it.

"Listen we did care for Lucas deeply back then, and I mean it. It's why we tried our best to save the farm or think of different solutions, but it was too late for that." Fred hopes that this at least makes her understand them a bit more.

Jane then grabs the arm of Fred. "We just didn't have a choice, so we just decided to leave the farm. Originally we planned to bring Lucas with, us but that gave us problems. The biggest was with money as the amount we saved up wasn't enough to have him with us." She said as she lowered her head.

"We had a very long and difficult discussion about Lucas, and our situation. One night we made our decision that it would be for the best to leave him behind." Jane said as she began to wipe away some tears she had.

Ashly feels utterly disgusted by what she heard, and she is almost letting loose. How could they be such awful parents, and why is it getting worse and worse when they talk?

"We first started small like spending less time with Lucas everyday. We would lie and pretend that we had more work to do to keep the farm running, and he bought it. This was so that we would feel less sorry as we would loose our bond with him, and it worked. We brought back this idea three days before we left, and we weren't as hesitant as before." Jane said as she sounded a bit too excited.

"Yeah while we still could bare the guilt of abandoning our own son. We waited three days before we told him that we would be gone for a bit, but that we would return someday. It was hard lying to him as we knew he was going to die, but like we said, we didn't have a choice." Fred said to Ashly as he hugs Jane.

"So you two had a choice, and you both decided to choice the wrong one. Lucas really did love you two pieces of shits who claim to be his parents. He knew that you two abandoned him, and yet he held hope that you two still loved him. Now I see who you two really are, worthless losers." Ashly says as she is angry, but she won't raise her voice, she isn't trying to get attention.

"You are all selfish and I could of understood you financially wise, but you abandoned a kid in the end of the day. I saw Lucas for who he was, and even though I myself wasn't a good person. I don't think I would ever be that close to him, but I was his friend, sure not the best but his only friend."

"He was a kind person who neither you two nor me deserved as we are monsters who saw him as lesser than. I myself can't handle the fact that he truly is dead yet you two don't react to it. I want to know how long did you all think he was dead, and how long did it take to accept that?" Ashly says as she points her finger at them.

Jane then picks up Luke, and she looks away. "We should go somewhere else while Daddy speaks with this woman." Jane then leaves with Luke very fast.

Ashly then turns to Fred who looks more inconvenienced than sad or sorry. "I understand your frustration, but we already made our choice long ago. If I'm honest, I accepted his death the day we left him." Fred said.

"We never looked back, and yeah we did feel bad and horrible for a while. But after two years we started to get used to the guilt bit by bit. It took us nearly four years to stop feeling bad about it. This was also around the time we found out Jane was pregnant with our curent son Luke. We also started improving, and our life's became much better than before." Fred said trying to not set off a fire within Ashly.

"The only way we could be forgiven for our mistake was to raise Luke better than Lucas. To give him the life we never could of given Lucas. Luke is our future, and we wouldn't want anything bad to happen to him as it would show that we failed."

"I was surprised that Lucas wasn't even mad at us or thought of hurting us." Fred said as he put his hands in his pocket.

"If it wasn't for the wishes of Lucas, and him telling me to forgive you. I would of definitely have punched you and your wife already. I don't care if I would of done it in front of your son as you two are bad people." Ashly says as she clutches her fists.

"I just don't get how you two managed to raise such a good man like Lucas. No, it was thanks to you two abandoning him that good people found and raised him." Ashly says.

"Maybe it was that he grew up with good people that didn't influence him be scummy. Your dead son is inside that hospital, and the least you can do is visit him and see his body. I myself can't visit him as I'm not a relative nor do I have any identification that can help me." Ashly said as she pointed to the hospital that Lucas was in.

"If I help you see Lucas again would you leave us alone?" Fred asked and Ashly nods. Fred then sighs. "For the sake of my wife and son I'll go with you then." He seems a bit uneasy. "Listen once you see him, I'll leave, and I hope that you would leave us alone as well. I want you to never see us again, and try not to hurt us as well."

"As much as it will be difficult to follow I agree, and I won't break that promise. I may not be the best person, but I know when to deal with my emotions." Ashly says, and she thinks of something. "It took me so long to finally learn that, and I won't falter anymore."

"Go speak with your wife and son about this deal we're making. I'll accept the conditions no matter what you two say as long as I see Lucas. You can add as many conditions as long as they are reasonable, I'll follow them in an instant." Ashly says as she points to Jane who is with Luke looking away.

Fred nods, and he walks away to reunite with his family and speak with them. Ashly watches from afar as she isn't worried that they wou run away. As far as she is concerned, she can catch up to them no matter what. They also can't do anything to her as she is a criminal so she won't mind breaking some laws if she has to.

She isn't going to kill any authority as they are just doing their job. She ain't going to draw herself out as a criminal specially now. She sees them huddle together, and then hug before Fred turns and walks to Ashly. Ashly is disgusted that they can feel love even with what she just told them.

"Don't worry we spoke, and we didn't change anything from the deal as it was fine enough. I'll bring you in, and once we are finish, we are going to pretend like we never saw each other." Fred said to Ashly and she nods.

"Lucky for you guys I wasn't planning on seeing your faces ever again." Ashly says and Fred smiles as at least Ashly is resonable, and that they have a mutual understanding. Ashly turns around to see Jane and Luke who are staring at them. Luke waves at Ashly, but she turns around and ignores him

Ashly isn't actually going to hurt them in front of their son as he isn't apart of this. Luke is innocent, and he was just unlucky to be born as their son. So far he hasn't done anything bad which is why she ain't going to fault him. Ashly is going to ignore him, and try to not do anything to make that boy suffer.

"Hey Fred, we are going to pretend that I'm Lucas's cousin, and I'm a close relative of yours." Ashly says as they walk to the hospital, and she doesn't turn to look at him.

"I understand, and I won't do or say anything unless you tell me so. I don't want to mess up your facade as I don't want my wife to be hurt." Fred says as he looks at Ashly.

Ashly doesn't tell him that she wouldn't hurt him as fear will make him more complacent. "I'll think about it, but we made a promise that I wouldn't hurt you." Fred sighs and they both enter the hospital, and go back to the same receptionist that Ashly spoke with.

They approach the receptionist. "My name is Fred, and I'm the father of one of the deceased patients here." He shows her his I.D. "This right here is Ashly, and she is the cousin of my son Lucas who sadly passed away. Sadly my other son thought that it would be funny to lose her Identification as he thought that it would cause her to disappear."

Ashly could feel Fred staring directly at her. "I'm sorry for this inconvenience, but I want her to also see my dead son." Fred said in a fake sad voice.

"Oh that's very sad and inconvenient, but she can definitely come through." The receptionist says as Fred and Ashly look at each other, and Ashly nods. "Now follow me then."

The receptionist brings them to a lower level of the hospital, and they enter a room. "Here is where we keep the bodies of people until they get buried." A doctor says to them. "Thanks to his identification we were able to properly care for him." He then brings them to the place where they are keeping Lucas.

"I want you to come and see his body as well, I want to see if you truly fell no remorse about his death." Absly whispers to Fred as they walk behind the doctor. They then enter a room, and the doctor presents them Lucas. He is being covered by a big sheet.

Ashly looks at Fred who is beginning to sweat, Ashly made a guess and she smiles. It seems that they both relied on never seeing Lucas's body again which is a fast way to cope, but easy to shatter.

This is how she is going to get back at them without affecting the child. She is going to traumatize one of the parents just slightly. She will be glad to know that she is able to make one of them suffer from their mistakes. Fred seems to be sweating more, and Ashly hides her smile as much as possible.

"You came here to see your dead son so if you're going to cry, then do it now." Ashly says with tone of sadness, but she wants to say more to him. She can't as the doctor is here but she can wait a while.

"This is a tragic moment for a father seeing his dead son, the person who he cherished and raised with his heart. Honestly it should of been the other way around, that's how it always should be." The doctor says as he turns to them.

"Oh you're going to cry now? Well then, I'll just step outside after I show you the body. I'll give you two enough time to feel sentimental as I won't bother you." The doctor said as he is genuinely being sympathetic towards them.
