Chapter 107 - A Surprise

Ashly walks down the street, and she buys a slice of cake she saw from a far. Ashly grabs the slice of cake, and sits down and she stares at it. A piece of cake, she never thought she would eat something sweet ever again. When was the last time she ever ate a cake or is this her first time?

Ashly remembered the day Lucas spoke about it to her. She was never interested in it as to her, food was just food no matter its taste. She guessed that sweets were a way to show off how you were stable and had food. How you had enough to be full, and you were able to afford eating extra as a rewards.

Ashly stares at the food intensely, and it sure does look delicious. Maybe she will enjoy it as it seems appetizing or whatever Lucas said. Ashly grabs a fork, and cuts a chunk of the cake, she pokes it for a bit. Ashly lifts the piece and she bites it, but she almost spits it out, it's too intense.

Why do people even like this type of food, and why doesn't she? Ashly swallows the peice of cake, and she makes a weird face. She didn't mean to make one as why would she joke around this time of day. Her friend is dead and now she is making weird faces, what kind of person is she?

Ashly looks around, and a few people are looking at her. "Oh sorry I just bite my tongue by accident." Ashly quickly says, and they all then ignore her. Ashly continues to eat the cake piece by piece, and it doesn't taste better even if she slows down.

So she is acting this weird because she hasn't eaten anything sweet in a decade. The last time was when her parents bought her something that was definitely sweet. There is a chance her body isn't used to sugar, and it wasn't prepared to eat something soon.

She did eat a bunch of bland food before, most of them were canned with almost no sugar in them. She only ate fruits or vegetables, and rarely meat, sugar must of never crossed her mind before.

She probably forgot sugar even existed if it wasn't for Lucas mentioning it. She continues to eat the cake. "This is soo…good." Ashly murmurs as she isn't going to waste food like that specially if it came from Lucas's money.

Ashly continues to eat and finally she grabs the last chuck, and she eats and swallows it. Ashly knows that if she wants to eat cake again she would have to start with foods with low sugar. Well that might be her goal, to eat normal food that normal people eat, and not gag or makes weird faces. She wants to just be a normal person in this world.

Ashly stands up and she leaves, she clutches her stomach as this is definitely new to her. Her stomach isn't used to this much sweets, and she feels like she wants to vomit. Ashly is holding some water on her, and drinks it all at once. She hopes that it will lesser the feeling in her stomach, but she doesn't know.

As she walks she gets distracted with her thoughts that she bumps into someone. "Oh sorry sir I wasn't looking where I was going." Ashly apologizes quickly.

"Oh it's alright miss, I wasn't looking either." The man says, and Ashly then shows the man the photo of Lucas family. The man looks a bit interested as to why a stranger is showing him a photo of a young family.

"Have you seen these people before? Specifically the parents of this small child." Ashly asked. She doesn't know why she is asking him of all people. There is no way they'll be here of all places.

"Oh I just saw them not too long ago actually, I mean they look similar." The man said and Ashly looks up with intrigue.

"I'm not lying to you miss as I saw them just yesterday. Sure they look much older now, and I'm guessing that this is an old photo. But may I ask you why do you want to find these people?" The man asked as is feeling a bit nosy today.

"Oh well it might not seem like, it but I'm a close relative of them. You see today is a special day, and I just wanted to seem them since it's been a few months." Ashly says as she hopes he buys into it, "So did you talk to them at all?"

"Oh I didn't sadly, but what I saw was definitely a happy and lovely couple. I sometimes see them walk around that street for a few days since I noticed them. I do believe that they are living here, and before you ask I work in one of those stores so don't call me a creep." The man says quickly hoping that he didn't make himself look bad.

"Oh don't worry about that, I'm thankful as I'll try to find them myself." Ashly says as she leaves the man, Ashly fakes a smile, and the man turns around and walks a different direction. Wait! Is this some kind of sick joke that she doesn't get.

Lucas just died at the district that his parents are currently residing in. Well he died in the place that is most likely hosting his parents as they might just be lookalikes. Ashly wants to laugh at that, but she can't as it's too messed up for her. Lucas would of smiled if he heard that he still had a big chance to see them.

Ashly then walks into the street that the man said he saw them in. Ashly looks around, and it's a street full of stores. They all seem to be furniture stores. She isn't interested in any of them as she needs to do this for Lucas, and finally find those bastards.

Ashly looks around for a spot that she can stand in or sit at so she wouldn't look suspicious. As she thinks she then spots him, the man who looks like the father of Lucas. On his side is presumably the mother of Lucas as well, they are both walking with a smile on their faces.

Ashly can see that although the photo was taken many years ago, they both look identical to their younger self's. It's as if they didn't age at all which should be impossible. She knows that when people age, they also change in appearance.

In their case they seem like they never aged a bit, they seem to be walking happily. So it seems like they're living a decent life by the looks of it. Lucas's parents don't notice Ashly. and when they are about to pass by.

"I have to ask you two something." Ashly says interrupting their walk. They both stop, and they look at Ashly. Ashly then pulls out the old frame of their old life, and they both look worried by this.

"W-Where did you get that photo? In fact how did you find us, and why do you have that with you?" The father of Lucas asked Ashly, he seems a bit nervous by just looking at the photo.

"Oh I got it from someone named Lucas, and he was trying to find you people. You know the kid you two abandoned when he was just a crybaby with no survival skills." Ashly says as she is already getting furious, and she knows that Lucas would of wanted her to not be mad.

It's difficult as they both abandoned a literal child, and they don't seem too sad about it. She is going to try her best, but that doesn't mean that she will be nice to them. It will all depend on what they both say from now on, and she sure won't let them make mistakes.

"I'm surprised that Lucas is actually alive. We both thought that he was dead by now." The mother said quickly. "May I ask where is he? I never thought I'll ever see him again." She looks around confused.

"Oh he is dead, and before that he had always talked so highly of you two. His entire goal was to find you two, and live together again as family. He saved up a lot of money so that he could help you two buy back the farm. He thought it would make you two return to him." Ashly says as she is trying to hold in her anger a bit longer.

"Oh that's so sweet of him, but he should of moved on by now. He should of know that it would be impossible for him to ever find us." The mother said with a concern tone.

For some reason they both don't seem sad that their own son is dead. Not only that, but they are telling her that he should of given up.

"So do you two not care at all about how your son persisted in finding you two? That he died before he could talk to two of you, and did you two even gave a dam about him?" Ashly says as her anger is slipping, but she stays calm. The both of them look at each other.

"We do care about Lucas, but it's been years since we first left him behind. Since then we started a new life, and we never thought about him which is why we don't feel bad." The father says. "I want to know when he died, and for how long."

"He died just a few weeks ago, and I was with him when he died. That makes me sad to think about as we arrived together so he should been the one speaking to you two." Ashly says as she calms herself down a bit as she isn't going to be risky right now.

Ashly then thinks that with what she had learned from just a talk to them. Then maybe it was for the best that he died before he could speak to them. He would of definitely shatter if he found out that they weren't as good as he remembered even if he did grow and mature.

"Why were you with Lucas in the first place, and why would he tell you stuff like this?" The mother asked, and the father seems to agree as well. "Oh is it by any chance that you two are d-" Before she could finish her sentence, Ashly says that they are just friends.

The mother then looks a bit disappointed. "I just thought that at least Lucas found himself a girlfriend. A partner while he searched for us as I would of definitely been proud of him if he did. I do mean it when I say that you're pretty, and you shouldn't blame me for my assumptions as you did have the frame with you." The mother says as she tries to dismiss her assumption.

"I don't care what you thought as I want to know if you two would of accepted him. Tell me if you would of if he found you two first before I did?" Ashly asked, but the two parents stay silent. "Hey answer my question as it's a simple yes or no."

"Look it's a complicated and long answer that we don't think you'll like. It's going to take us a while which we don't know if you're willing to wait for clarification." The mother says, but Ashly looks at her intensely which is a cue that the mother catches on quickly.

Before Ashly could yell at them. "Mommy and Daddy, why are you two standing still for so long?" It's the voice of a child, and Ashly looks down to see a child that looks fairly similar to Lucas. It looks like his younger self in that frame Ashly then looks up at the parents.

"Like I said…It's a complicated answer." The mother said, the boy looks at Ashly and smiles at her. That smile of his is similar to the one of Lucas when they were younger. So it seems that maybe she could remember more things.

"Can I ask for the names of all three of you?" Ashly asks, she wants to at least call them by their names. They don't deserve to be referred to as Lucas's parents individually.

"My name is Fred, my wife's name is Jane, and this little boy." Fred pats their sons head "His name is Luke, I know that it sounds bad, but please don't get angry." Fred says.
