For the next few days, Fu Ling didn't see Cain anywhere in the palace. Whenever he asked George, he was given a vague answer so he stopped looking and waited for Cain to take the initiative to look for him.

By the fourth day, Fu Ling was sprawled lazily on a velvet couch in one of the palace's endless libraries, flipping through a heavy tome on ancient vampiric clans.

Apparently, vampires once ruled openly, walking among humans like gods, before some ancient war and unequal treaty forced them into hiding. Cain's bloodline, the House of Nyx was one of the oldest.

Fu Ling skimmed another page muttering under his breath. "No wonder he's so smug."

This version of Chaos always had this look on his face that made Fu Ling think he deserved a beating.

"Talking about me behind my back, half-blood?"

Fu Ling froze for half a second before snapping the book shut and twisting around.
