Later that evening, sunset slanted through the tall windows of the council chamber. Reports from the gate had already reached the elders that the convoy had crossed the city's northern bridge.

"They'll be out of our borders by nightfall," one elder said, relief clear in his voice.

Grace leaned back in her chair, hands resting loosely on the armrests. "Then let us hope the Northern region is ready for their new guest."

Queen Judith's eyes narrowed. "Robert's betrayal cuts deep, son. I trust you'll not soften his punishment simply because he is gone."

"Oh no. That's nothing to worry about Mother,he is gone," Grace replied evenly, "and that is enough for now."

Murmurs moved through the room. Some nodded, others exchanged uncertain glances. Only Councillor Honest remained still, his eyes fixed on the table.

When the meeting ended, the chamber emptied slowly. Councillor Honest waited until the last elder had stepped out before speaking. "He's still in the cell below."
