The prisoners groaned as the commanders hauled them toward the truck. The courtyard had thinned, though curious faces still lingered behind the palace railings, hoping to hear the next command.
Grace's breathing steadied. She lowered her shoulders and stepped toward the guards. "Stop."
The commaders froze, waiting.
She looked at the prisoners, still coughing from the invisible grip moments ago and then at the stammering lad. "You came here for Robert. Not for me."
The lad glanced at the others, but no one spoke.
Grace's tone stayed even. "I will give him to you."
A murmur spread among the remaining council members. Queen Judith's eyes narrowed. "King Quicke, you cannot"
Grace raised a hand to silence her. "It is not your concern Mother" She turned to the soldiers. "Bring Robert here."
One commander stepped forward cautiously. "Your Highness, we have not found him yet."
