CHAPTER 83
The palace council members assembled, exchanging uneasy glances.
Grace left the crowd and paced around the table. "You all heard what the Northern prisoners said." She paused. "One of you joined in the signing."
The council members stared blankly at her.
"Who was that?" She asked.
Silence stretched through the room.
"I didn't sign a thing," one member finally said.
"I also didn't," another replied.
The youngest council member, an average-built man with a full beard, stood abruptly. "May I speak?"
Grace gave a short nod.
"Pardon me, Your Highness, but you know the rules of Alagascar can never be broken. In all our history, no council member has ever been given the legal right to sign a petition, let alone agree to an order to eliminate you." He glanced around the room. "It simply cannot happen."
Several members nodded in agreement.
