Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: The Upset Meyu

Though Meyu—the Rotom Phone—was designed as a support-type Pokémon with access to advanced scanning instruments and a vast internal database, it still couldn't analyze Dratini unique physiology or provide an effective training plan.

It wasn't Meyu's fault. After all, Dratini housed traces of Dynamax energy, something that even modern Pokémon science had only scratched the surface of. There simply wasn't enough research material available to help him. Dratini glanced at the visibly confused Meyu and gently tapped him with his tail, his tone soft and reassuring.

"It's okay. I wasn't expecting much help to begin with. This is fine too"

What was meant to be a comforting remark struck Meyu like a Thunderbolt straight to his pride. As a highly intelligent Pokémon, Meyu knew exactly why Gabriel had added him to the team. He understood his role: the world's first fully-integrated support-type Pokémon. In Meyu's eyes, that meant nobody should be telling him "no."

Dynamax energy or not… I'll figure this out. Just you wait!

As Gabriel watched Meyu storm off in frustration, a question mark practically formed above his head. Did I say something wrong?

Meyu knew better than anyone that solving the mystery of Dynamax energy would take more than a day or two. Still, he couldn't accept that as a reason to doubt his value as a support Pokémon. He needed to prove himself—and fast. Gabriel had another Pokémon on his team, didn't he? If Meyu could boost his strength, that would show everyone what he was truly capable of.

With burning determination, Meyu hovered over to Kaka the Galarian Farfetch'd.

Compared to Dratini, Kaka's expression remained stoic.

(Is there something you need?)

(I want to help you train.)

Kaka stared at Meyu with calm indifference, then shook his head.

He didn't need help. His current self-training regimen suited him perfectly. Every day, he could feel his sword techniques sharpening. Each swing grew faster, more precise. That steady sense of growth was addictive—there was no need to involve anyone else.

(Thanks, but I don't need help right now.)

(No! I have to help you. It's my mission!)

(I really don't need it.)

Rejected again, Meyu clung to Kaka's wing, eyes brimming with tears.

(Please, I promise I can help! Just give me a chance!)

Sigh… There was no stopping him, was there?

While Kaka had been improving rapidly in combat, there was one area where he still struggled—his budding psychic abilities.

(If you really want to help, then… can you strengthen my psychic powers?)

(Wait—what??)

(You know, psychic powers! You didn't know I had those?)

As he spoke, Kaka demonstrated: his prized leek floated gently into the air, suspended by sheer willpower. Meyu was stunned. All diagnostic readings confirmed it—this was real, raw Psychic-type power.

(I... I had no idea.)

While Meyu's archives included plenty of data on Psychic-type Pokémon, he had never encountered a Farfetch'd—especially not a Galarian one—with this kind of psychic talent. He had no clue how to help Kaka develop it further.

Kaka wasn't surprised. Even Gabriel hadn't figured out a way to boost his abilities in that department. What hope did a newly joined support Pokémon have?

(Thanks, but I'll figure it out on my own.)

With that, Kaka turned and calmly walked off. His meditation session was over, and it was time to resume sword training. Every second spent idle felt like an opportunity wasted.

As Meyu watched his silhouette fade into the distance, his own spirit seemed to crack. He was completely frozen in place, defeated.

Later, after tidying up his dorm room, Gabriel came across the crestfallen Meyu and tilted his head in confusion.

What happened? Was he bullied? That didn't seem likely—both Dratini and Kaka were kind-hearted Pokémon.

Gabriel crouched down beside Meyu and gently asked, "What's wrong? Did someone pick on you?"

(Gabriel… am I useless…?)

Meyu looked up at him with teary eyes, barely holding back his sobs.

Gabriel was caught off guard. "Don't worry. Take your time and tell me what happened. If anyone made you cry, I'll stand up for you!"

Without another word, Meyu launched himself into Gabriel's arms, eyes full of hurt, pouring his heart out in a muffled, desperate wail.

Once Gabriel finally pieced together what had happened, he couldn't help but chuckle.

So Meyu cried… because of himself? Not because someone bullied him?

Really, it wasn't Meyu's fault. The research team had only uploaded standard training data into his system—nothing tailored to special cases like Dratini's Dynamax physiology or Kaka's psychic abilities. It was no wonder Meyu couldn't help with their training.

The truth was, both cases fell into knowledge gaps even top-tier breeders struggled to solve. Expecting Meyu to handle them from day one was way too much pressure.

Still, that didn't mean Meyu was useless. Gabriel had brought him along precisely to tackle tough training problems like these. He knew what he was getting into. Even so, he hadn't found any solutions yet either.

Gabriel's progress relied on breakthroughs in Dynamax research—something only Everette could deliver. As for Kaka's psychic powers, that was tied to meditation training. It was something only Kaka himself could develop... unless they found some way to speed up that process with a technique or tool.

Gabriel gently stroked the trembling meyu in his arms.

"All right, all right. I get it. Don't worry—I'll make sure they're begging for your help soon."

Meyu's ears perked up. He wiped his tears and looked up at him.

(R-Really?)

"Of course. Want to come with me?"

Gabriel smiled, giving Meyu a reassuring pat on the head before heading out of the dorm together.

In fact, when the Academy Director had first handed Meyu over, he'd advised Gabriel to visit the Breeding Department when he had time. That department housed the most comprehensive collection of breeding and training data in the entire school—adding it to Meyu's database would vastly enhance his capabilities.

Gabriel had originally planned to wait. The current data Meyu had received from the research division seemed plentiful enough. But now… it was clear those files weren't cutting it for unique cases like Dratini and Kaka.

With a resigned sigh, Gabriel gently shook his head and led the still-sniffling Meyu toward the Breeding Department.

Looks like we're taking that trip after all.
