In the end, Gabriel finally received his very own Rotom —a special unit custom-tuned by the research center's scientific team.
Gabriel's unconventional ideas had sparked new inspiration among the researchers. At first, their objective had been fairly straightforward: identify the most powerful form Rotom could assume. But with Gabriel's insight, they realized they'd been asking the wrong question all along.
Sure, "powerful" was the goal—but who said it had to mean battle power?
Rotom's limited combat capabilities were well-documented, but that didn't mean it lacked potential. If Rotom could possess machines and use their functions, why not specialize it for purposes beyond battle?
Gabriel proposed a Breeding Rotom a Rotom trained to optimize Pokémon care and development. Given its ability to access and store massive databases from the devices it inhabited, and the fact that a machine's diagnostic precision often surpassed human perception, such a Rotom could easily outperform an inexperienced breeder.
Other variations quickly followed: Research Rotom, Map Rotom, and more. Once the creative floodgates opened, ideas poured out like a waterfall.
Gabriel's Rotom—nicknamed Meyu—had already been loaded with extensive knowledge on Pokémon care and training, making it an ideal partner to help him raise Dratini and Kaka.
He pulled out a Poké Ball and released Rotom. The pale-yellow, electric-bodied Pokémon hovered in midair, its wide eyes cautiously observing Gabriel.
"Hi, Meyu. From now on, we're partners. It's great to meet you," Gabriel greeted warmly.
As a Ghost/Electric-type Pokémon, Rotom was sensitive to human emotions. It could sense the genuine affection from this stranger, and hesitantly extended a hand-like spark of electricity toward him and also rotom can speak to human language and still can communicate to other Pokémon.
"N-Nice to meet you…"
The moment Meyu touched him, a jolt of static buzzed through Gabriel's palm. As expected from an Electric-type Pokémon—its entire form was built from pure current.
Gabriel then pulled a retro-style oversized smartphone from his pocket. This was no ordinary device—it had been specially customized by the head researcher and fitted with advanced breeding functions. While its bulky size resembled an old-school "brick phone," it housed numerous embedded systems to support Rotom's new role.
"Meyu, this is your new body. Want to give it a try?"
Curiously, Meyu eyed the phone for a moment, then phased into it with a zap of electricity.
"This feels amazing!"
Now fully synced with the device, Meyu floated into the air, transforming into a familiar form: Smart Rotom.
"I'm glad you like it. From now on, I'll call you Meyu. We're a team now."
"I love that name!"
Gabriel smiled as he walked out of the lab, now accompanied by his new partner. He couldn't wait to introduce Meyu to the rest of the crew and see what the Breeding Rotom was capable of.
Soon, Gabriel returned to his dormitory. As a Champion-ranked trainer, he had certain privileges—including a private single room typically reserved for instructors.
And Gabriel didn't mind that at all. Everyone needs their own space sometimes.
Inside, he introduced Meyu to his other partners—Dratini, his longtime mainstay, and Kaka, the more recent addition.
Kaka, being relatively new himself, was welcoming and relaxed around Meyu.
Dratini, on the other hand, was a bit more guarded. He was happy, yes, but also wary.
Since Kaka's arrival, Dratini had remained Gabriel's ace in battle—but not without challenge. At first, he hadn't taken Kaka seriously. After all, he was the original—Gabriel's first and favorite. But Kaka's growth was nothing short of terrifying. In just two months, Kaka had evolved rapidly and now posed a real threat to Dratini's top spot.
It was only after pushing himself through a grueling round of intensive training that Dratini managed to reassert his dominance in the team.
While he was still Gabriel's primary battler, Kaka had earned the right to share that spotlight. In fact, in their most recent match, Kaka had taken the lead—and Dratini hadn't even seen the battlefield.
T-T!!
Gabriel didn't love him anymore!
Of course, Gabriel had no idea that Dratini was casting him in the role of a heartless trainer who'd traded old love for new. With a grin, Gabriel brought Meyu forward.
"This is our new teammate. From now on, we're all one family."
Welcome aboard.
"And just so you know, Meyu's a different kind of partner. He's not a battler—he's a Breeding Rotom. He'll be helping you with training, analysis, and development. His experience might even surpass mine."
Before Gabriel could finish, Dratini had already wrapped his tail protectively around Meyu, glaring at Gabriel with dramatic flair.
"Muu Muu! Muu Muu!" (He's my little bro now! If anyone messes with him, they mess with me!)
Seeing how quickly Dratini warmed up to Meyu eased Gabriel's worries.
Kaka just gave Gabriel a calm nod and went right back to meditating. Ever since experiencing the rewards of strength and growth, Kaka had developed a deep appreciation for disciplined training.
Meanwhile, Dratini had already dragged Meyu into a hidden corner of the room and stretched out his neck.
"Muu Muu." (You're a Breeding Pokémon, right? Can you check this out for me?)
Meyu blinked but quickly extended a set of diagnostic instruments.
"Let's take a look."
The scan didn't take long, but the results left Meyu stunned.
"W-What is this?! There's nothing in my entire database about this!"
Nothing?
Dratini sighed and retracted his neck. The reason he'd asked Meyu for a scan was because of a strange development—a Dragonite's shed scale, specifically a piece of Outrage scale, had somehow fused to his body. No matter what he did, he couldn't remove it.
"Mu Mu." (That's okay. Thanks anyway.)
Sensing Dratini's disappointment, Meyu gently tried to cheer him up.
"Even if my database doesn't recognize it, the scan shows that your body is growing stronger. Whatever this phenomenon is—it's unique to you. And it's definitely a positive change."
