Chapter 15 - 15. Evolution!

The light on Charmander gradually shone, and then Charmander's body began to change in the light.

"Roar!"

The next second, the light turned into a sky full of light spots and dissipated into the air.

Charmander successfully evolved into Charmeleon!

"Ding! Congratulations on your Charmander evolving into Charmeleon!"

"Ding! World announcement! Congratulations, Kanto Region player 'Morning Sun''s Pokémon became the first evolved Pokémon in the game. Let us remember player 'Morning Sun' for becoming the leader of the game!"

"Ding! World announcement! Congratulations, player 'Morning Sun' received the system reward, Pokédollars ×10,000, Ultra Ball ×20, TM [Fire Blast], and Silver Crown ×2!"

Name: Charmeleon

Type: Fire

Ability: Blaze (In critical moments, the power of Fire-type moves increases by 1.5×)

Level: 16

Potential: Elite

Charmeleon's body shape resembled Charmander's, but its skin tone had darkened. A horn-like protrusion had grown on its head, and its mouth had become more pointed, somewhat resembling a bird's beak. Its limbs and tail were longer than Charmander's, and the flame at the end of its tail burned brighter.

Looking at the stronger Charmeleon in front of him, Trevor was elated. He muttered to himself, "I remember this reward didn't exist in my previous life. Is it a version update?"

"Am I truly the first person to evolve a Pokémon? It seems no one is training Bug-type Pokémon like Caterpie and Weedle."

"But it makes sense. Not only are Bug-types harder to level up, but their appearance also makes people doubt their strength. It's normal that few would train them."

And they didn't know that Caterpie could evolve quickly, which worked out perfectly for him. "Hahaha," Eddie chuckled to himself.

Eddie felt that today was truly his lucky day. Not only had he received an abundance of rewards, but more importantly, the extremely rare Silver Crowns from his previous life were now in his possession as if they were mere trinkets.

Including the two he had just acquired, Eddie had amassed a total of seven Silver Crowns today but had used three!

"I'll save the other four for later. After all, Elite-level potential is enough for now.

"The TM is also an incredible bonus."

[Fire Blast] was one of the strongest Fire-type moves, with a game power of 110.

Although it was 10 points weaker than [Flare Blitz], the two moves had distinct uses. [Flare Blitz] was a physical, close-range attack with the drawback of inflicting recoil damage on the user.

Even though Eddie, with the power of Viridian, could heal Charmeleon after battles, relying on [Flare Blitz] mid-fight could put Charmeleon at risk of being defeated before the battle ended. On the other hand, [Fire Blast] had no such limitations.

It was a ranged attack without negative side effects, making it a safer and more versatile choice in most situations.

"Rewards like these always seem to come at the right time. Maybe I'm just lucky."

Turning to his partner, Eddie smiled. "Charmeleon, come here. I've got something good for you!"

"Ding! Charmeleon has learned [Fire Blast]!"

After using the TM, Eddie watched as Charmeleon instinctively understood what to do. It glanced around and picked a nearby large tree to test its newfound move.

(Trees: Why us? What did we trees ever do to deserve this? Every time it's a new move, we're the target!)

Charmeleon began gathering an intense red energy, its growls intensifying as the energy grew stronger. Then, it unleashed a massive flame that formed a fiery character in the air before slamming into the unfortunate tree.

Boom!

The blaze not only incinerated the tree to ashes but also caused a chain reaction, setting several surrounding trees ablaze. From Eddie's vantage point, the burning area clearly showed the "big" character-shaped mark left by the [Fire Blast].

"It's powerful," Eddie observed, "but the move's execution speed is slower than Flamethrower, and its accuracy could use some work."

Despite pointing out its flaws, Eddie couldn't hide his satisfaction.

After all, this was just the beginning. Charmeleon had only just learned [Fire Blast]. With practice, its speed, precision, and sheer power would undoubtedly improve.

When Charmeleon evolves into Charizard, this move will only grow stronger!

"Froakie, use [Bubble] to put out these fires," Eddie instructed.

This was Viridian Forest, and letting a fire spread here was far from ideal. Eddie knew it was better to extinguish the flames quickly.

"From what I can tell, even at level 16, Charmeleon can level up effectively in Viridian Forest. I should focus on training here before heading to Pewter City," Eddie mused.

"Speaking of Pewter City, it reminds me of Brock, the Gym Leader. By the way, the Pokémon here in Viridian Forest are all around level 16. That means the Pokémon I'll face in the Gym will likely be even stronger."

"To be safe, I should aim to train Charmeleon and Froakie to level 20 or higher before challenging the Gym."

Eddie glanced at Charmeleon and Froakie. Charmeleon, a Fire type, could learn [Iron Tail], a Steel-type move. This could be useful, especially against Brock's Rock-type Pokémon. Charmeleon could hold its own in the battle, but the real key would be Froakie, a Water type.

Eddie couldn't shake the feeling that the Gym battle wouldn't be as straightforward as it seemed. After all, Pokémon Generation α had already thrown plenty of "surprises" his way.

"I'm sure there'll be more surprises during the Gym match," Eddie thought. "I just hope they won't leave me feeling Astonished!"
