Chapter 13 - 13. The Compensation You Want

"No, no, I can't do it. I'm not good at catching Pokémon at all. I don't know what to do when I see Pokémon get hurt."

"How about I give you a Pokémon?"

"Really? Brother Morning Sun wants to give me a Pokémon. It won't bother you, will it?"

"No, it's just a small matter. What Pokémon do you want?"

"Let me think... By the way, I want a cute Rattata!"

"Ding! Yellow trusts you, you have triggered a hidden task: Yellow wants a Pokémon."

"Task content: Capture a Rattata for Yellow."

Eddie saw the system prompt and smiled proudly.

He took out a Poké Ball, which contained a Rattata he had captured before, prepared specifically for this hidden task.

"Yellow, I just caught an extra Rattata. Please take it."

"Ding! By completing the hidden task 'Yellow wants a Pokémon,' Yellow's favorability towards you has increased! You get 5 Rare Candies and 3 Silver Crowns."

"Dang, the reward for this task is 5 Rare Candies and 3 Silver Crowns?"

"With these Rare Candies and the ones I had before, I have a total of 10. I'll save them for a critical moment. As for these 3 Silver Crowns, they're really cool! If I'm lucky, I might end up with two champion-potential Pokémon!"

Eddie remained calm on the surface, but he was ecstatic inside.

"Thank you, Brother Morning Sun! I will cherish this Rattata!"

Yellow happily released the Rattata and hugged it warmly. Yellow was clearly communicating with it using the power of Viridian.

"Rattata, I will call you Little Lala from now on. Please guide me in the future."

Seeing Yellow's joy, Eddie smiled too. No matter what kind of strong person Yellow might become in the future, she was just a sweet, young girl now. Eddie appreciated her kind spirit.

"Ding! Your Rattata has been given to Yellow. Since Yellow is an important character in the plot, Rattata has undergone incredible changes!"

Eddie's smile froze.

Although he knew Yellow was a key character in the plot, he never expected the Rattata he just gave away to start changing.

However, his curiosity got the better of him, so he took out the Pokédex to check the differences between the current Rattata and its earlier state.

Name: Rattata (Little Lala)

Type: Normal

Ability: Guts (Boosts attack power by 50% when inflicted with a status condition)

Level: 7

Potential: Champion-Level

Note: The previous ability was Run Away, and the potential was peak-Level.

Eddie: "???"

What the heck is this? This is way too much! This is over the top!!!

Eddie felt his heart ache. He had just caught a little Rattata with peak potential.

Now, it had transformed into this monster under Yellow's care. Was this the privilege of being the world's favorite daughter?

Just a moment ago, he had been proudly thinking that if he used a Silver Crown, he could get two Pokémon with champion-level potential.

In the blink of an eye, the Rattata he gave away became a champion-level Pokémon without any effort.

"Calm down, calm down. Whether in the past or now, these 'Pokédex owners' are like the chosen protagonists of this world. It's normal for them to receive such treatment. Calm down..."

"Forget calm! This is unfair. I have a real Pokédex too! Why don't I get the same treatment? I refuse to accept this! I demand compensation, or my wounded heart will never recover!"

Eddie watched Yellow and Rattata play, his face forced into a smile while his heart screamed in protest.

"Ding! Detecting the resentment in the heart of the player 'Morning Sun,' who is favored by the world, hereby compensated with 2 Silver Crowns."

"...No way, I was just joking. Is there really compensation?"

Eddie frowned, sensing something unusual. He opened his inventory and discovered that the 3 Silver Crowns he had earlier had become 5.

"Uh, can you give me more?"

Eddie tried to push his luck shamelessly.

However, this time the game didn't respond. It seemed the two Silver Crowns were the limit of compensation, and no more would be given.

"Brother Morning Sun, what's wrong with you?"

Yellow, tired from playing, glanced at Eddie and noticed his expression shifting from delight to disbelief. She found it amusing.

"...It's nothing, Yellow. Now that you have Rattata with you, you'll be much safer if you encounter a similar situation in the future. I'm heading to Viridian Forest to train and improve my skills."

Eddie regained his composure and spoke to Yellow. With the hidden task completed, his next step was leveling up in Viridian Forest.

"...Then, Brother Morning Sun, please visit me again when you can. I live in the closest house in Viridian City."

Hearing that, Yellow's face fell slightly. She felt sad that her kind new friend would leave so soon. But being a sensible child, she quickly replaced her sadness with a sweet smile.

"Of course. Once my Charmander evolves into Charizard, I'll be able to fly back to see you in no time!"

The more Eddie looked at Yellow, the more he admired her thoughtfulness. He gently patted her head and made a promise.

They parted ways in a cheerful atmosphere.

"Good luck, Brother Morning Sun! I know you'll become an amazing Trainer!"

Eddie waved back as Yellow enthusiastically cheered him on. With his Charmander and Froakie by his side, he made his way toward Viridian Forest.

"Ah, I will. I'll definitely become an excellent Trainer," Eddie murmured to himself with determination. He turned his back on Yellow and continued his journey, accompanied by Charmander and Froakie, fading into the forest's vast expanse.
