Deciding it was time he had a break, Sage took him for a night out on the town; she took him clubbing.
Although he was initially hesitant, earlier he had expressed to her his intention to fully embrace life.
His moves were a bit awkward to start with, which got a laugh out of her and others; however, it wasn't long before he was moving as well as the best of them, dancing and grinding with the love of his life to the beat of the music.
And she was in her element, looking all sexy as hell, body bouncing, hips swaying. He could see the appeal. What a way to look for partners, you could practically see their bedroom moves before you even got there.
Taking a break, they grabbed some drinks and headed for a booth.
"What do you think? Are you enjoying yourself as much as I am?" she asked, throwing a hand up and moving with music as she drank.
"How could I not with you here?" he smiled, finding her mesmerizing.
She laughed, "You're sweet, but don't think you're getting out of this. Are you having fun?"
He chuckled, "What makes you think I'm trying to get out of this? I'm being sincere here. I'm enjoying my time with you immensely, but if you need an answer outside of that, then yes, it's nice enough."
"You're such a sap, that's one of the many reasons why I love you," said Sage, giving him a peck.
Finishing her drink, she stood, "Come on, let's head to the back and grab ourselves a bite."
As soon as they had enough privacy, Sage grabbed the first person she saw and bit into him.
Finn frowned, pulling her off, "Sage, what are you doing?"
"What? Oh, your stupid diet thing," she said, rolling her eyes. While she was happy to have Finn back and loved him more than anything, the whole do the right thing all the time was starting to bum her out. She used to go around when he wasn't here, doing whatever she wanted and taking it from whoever she wanted.
"To my great misery, I find myself burdened with empathy, and I can see that without me around, you have lost it. Is it really so hard to find someone worth killing? I've watched the news, and it seems like there's an innumerable amount of people that deserve it, why can't you just make sure?" asked Finn.
"Fine," said Sage, turning the young man's head so their eyes met, compelling him, "What's the worst thing you've done?"
"Roofed some girls and had my way with them; some of them could have been underage," answered the man.
Sage scowled, snapping his neck.
Finn wasn't sure what Roofed meant, though he could figure it out given the context, "I take it that wasn't good."
"That's putting it mildly," Sage scoffed, wiping the blood from her lips and spitting on the body, wondering how on earth she lucked out with Finn when apparently all she seemed capable of late was randomly picking rapists out of crowds.
A scream from a girl got their attention, and Sage sped over and compelled her to forget.
His phone rang.
"This is Finn."
"Eva here! Our leader wishes to meet you at your earliest convenience, or as soon as possible, I think is what she said. Something about finally taking care of The Night Garden. They recently made another play for our spells and should be weakened enough to take out with your help."
"Alright, I'll be there, see ya later Eva," said Finn.
"See ya later Finn," said Eva.
"The witches?" asked Sage.
"Yeah, they want me to help them take care of their rival coven. Probably going to betray me afterward, considering the timing with the looming threat of war, likely trying to cut ties with me beforehand and take what they can. Should be fun," said Finn casually.
Sage frowned, "Wait, you're not seriously thinking of going into a trap alone, are you?"
"I'll be fine," said Finn, brushing away her concerns.
She grabbed him by the arm, stopping him from leaving. "Look, Finn, you're not alone anymore, and it's not just your life you're risking. We can help you. Hell, even your father used an army back in the day to take on The Strix."
"And they lived?" asked Finn, intrigued.
"As good as your father is at destroying, he's terrible at trapping, with your siblings being prime examples," said Sage.
Finn chuckled, "You got a point there. Why did he go after The Strix though? Did Martel get in his way?"
"The Strix was founded by Elijah, who abandoned them and fled when your father showed up. Tristan swooped in and saved what was left, taking over," Sage explained.
"Interesting, and I see your point. Okay, I'll do it your way," said Finn, giving in.
On their way out, Sage, still not full, grabbed another fellow, "What's the worst thing you've ever done?"
"Stole from my parents," said the man.
Sage shrugged, "Eh, good enough," biting into him.
Finn sighed, "Sage... Sage."
"What? I wasn't going to kill him," said Sage, giving him an innocent look while dropping the half-dead man.
.
Arriving alone, he sneered at the damaged compound theatrics, not believing for one second that this could have happened again.
Their leader, Mary, greeted him, "Welcome, come in. You can see the problem. We can no longer allow this to happen; this must be the last time."
"Then it's good you finally decided to take me up on my offer of getting rid of them," said Finn, not impressed with the act.
"Indeed, they've been a thorn in our side for too long to waste this opportunity," said Mary, leading him to their makeshift war room with maps, pictures, and listed details posted around the place.
"Well, this is more than I was expecting," said Finn, walking over to one of the postings on the wall, going through the information.
"This is all the data we've ever collected on them," said Mary.
"Almost twice our numbers, at around 14 members that we know of. Could be more, could be less with a compound no less than our own, likely inscribed with whatever protections they managed to scrounge up," said Florence.
"I still don't see why we need this asshole; we can manage this ourselves," said Ana unhappily.
Finn smirked, "Nice to see you too Ana." At least one of them wasn't acting.
"Shove it," said Ana, flipping him off.
He was going to enjoy eating her.
"Enough Ana! We've talked about this," said Mary heatedly.
"Whatever, I'll be outside when you're ready. Come on, Eva," said Ana, dragging her sister out.
Eva gave him a little wave as they left.
He shook his head sadly, the one possible regret of this situation.
After assessing the plan, which centered on him, they would breach their defenses, allowing him to move forward without hindrance and confront the opposition. He would take out as many foes as he could, thereby weakening their ranks. Following this, they would strike from behind to ensure the complete eradication of the enemy.
Of course, the kicker was that he was likely included in the eradication plan.
They got into their vehicles and headed out.
