Aurora James - POV
I narrowed my eyes at Zander, who stood his ground, a storm brewing in his expression. "You wanted a second chance in this relationship, right?" I asked, my heart pounding in my chest, each beat echoing my uncertainty.
"Yes, but—" I raised my hand to stop him midway, the weight of my emotions heavy in the air.
"If you want this relationship to work, you need to trust me, Zander. And stop trying to control me." My voice trembled, a mix of anger and desperation spilling over.
"I wasn't controlling you, Aurora. You nearly escaped death, and—" He didn't dare finish that sentence, his eyes flickering to my stomach before locking back onto mine. I could feel the unspoken accusation hanging there, heavy and oppressive; he wanted to blame me for putting our baby in danger, but he held his tongue.
