Jamal was in the middle of a meeting when his phone began to ring.
He glanced down at the screen and he frowned slightly when he saw it was Dawn.
He never took his phone with him to meetings, but had decided to start doing so now that Dawn and Josh were living with him in case of an emergency.
"Excuse me for a moment," he said to the people around the table.
He picked up his phone and stepped out of the room. "Babe, I'm in the middle of a meeting. Is everything alright?"
The sound of Josh crying loudly came through the phone at once.
Jamal's expression changed. "What's wrong? Where are you?"
Dawn took a breath, but her voice shook when she spoke.
"We are in the car, heading home now. We went out for lunch with Genny, and Ryan came on the news. Josh saw him, and now he won't stop crying. He keeps saying he wants to see his daddy."
Jamal closed his eyes for a moment.
He could hear Josh sobbing in the background.
