For the next few hours, Dawn and Genevieve moved from one shop to another.
Genevieve tried on dresses, skirts, pants, blouses, and shoes. Dawn gave her opinions, sometimes helping her choose and sometimes telling her to put something back.
By the time they finished shopping, Genevieve had bought several work outfits, comfortable shoes, and a few simple accessories. She also bought a couple of loose dresses that she could wear as her bump grew.
Dawn insisted that she choose clothes that allowed her to sit, walk, and work without feeling tight or uncomfortable.
Genevieve complained that Dawn was behaving like her mother, but she listened all the same.
When they finally stepped out of the last shop, Genevieve looked at the bags in their hands and laughed.
"I think we did well."
Dawn nodded.
"We did very well. And I'm proud of you for not buying every single thing you liked."
