Pisti looked him dead in the eye, her expression a mixture of awe from his display of power and the lingering concern of a worried guardian. "You promise?" she asked, her voice low and serious. "Just looking. No fighting."

A slow, confident grin spread across my face. It felt good to be in control again. "Hmm, yep," I chirped, making my voice as innocent as possible.

Morgiana let out a long-suffering sigh, but her eyes held a spark of grudging respect. "Fine," she said, making the decision for them both. "But you stick close to us. We go together."

A short trek later, we were perched high in the branches of a colossal, ancient tree that overlooked a massive, dark-watered cove.

The air here was heavy and thick with the smell of salt and something else… something ancient and powerful. Down below, partially submerged in the gloomy water, was the beast.

It was far bigger than fifty feet. Its body was a series of immense, serpentine coils that moved languidly beneath the surface, each one as thick as a fallen log. Its scales were the color of wet slate, shimmering with an oily, unnatural rainbow sheen in the dim light.

Glowing faintly on its hide were the seals Pisti had mentioned—pale blue runes that seemed to pulse with a life of their own, embedded directly into the creature's flesh.

Its head was a battering ram of armored bone, and its eyes were milky and blind, suggesting it saw the world not with sight, but with magic.

This wasn't just an animal. It was a living cage. I focused, pushing my power forward.

Observe.

My heart sank. Level 300... and my fire attacks, my strongest element, are useless against it. My fists might as well be pebbles. But then I saw the last line. A weakness. A path forward.

….

Later, we sat on the gray sands of a nearby beach, the rhythmic crashing of the waves providing a somber backdrop to our conversation.

"So, what do you think?" Pisti asked, her voice heavy with the weight of countless failed attempts.

I looked from her to Morgiana. "How have you two been fighting it?"

Morgiana scuffed the sand with her foot. "I attack its hide," she said, her tone frustrated. "I punch and kick with everything I have, but it feels like hitting a mountain."

"And I summon my strongest beasts to claw and bite at it," Pisti added, looking out at the water. "I throw every offensive spell I know. It's like… like trying to put out a volcano with a bucket of water. The seals on its body just seem to absorb the damage before it even registers."

I nodded slowly, the pieces clicking into place. "That's because you've been fighting its strengths. The serpent itself is just a vessel; the seals are the real enemy. But it's beatable. Its main weaknesses are pure magic and lightning attacks."

Pisti's head snapped toward me, a flicker of hope in her eyes. "How do you know that?"

"I have a skill," I said simply. "It lets me read things, to see what others can't."

"So you have an idea," Morgiana stated, her sharp gaze fixed on me.

"Yes, I do," I said, the confidence in my voice wavering for the first time. "But it's risky. Very risky."

A low, concerned rumble echoed in my mind. "Shiro, you're not planning to... You haven't mastered that form. The rage could consume you."

'I have to, Voltaris,' I thought back, my resolve hardening. 'It's our only chance. This thing is weak to lightning. I need you to be my anchor. You have to promise you'll pull me back if I go too far.'

There was a long pause, filled with the weight of draconic history. "I understand, partner. I will do everything in my power. Just be ready."

Aloud, I continued, "It involves a power… a power I don't have full control over yet."

"Then no," Pisti said immediately, her voice firm.

"Absolutely not," Morgiana agreed, her arms crossed. "If you are at risk, we will find another way."

"There is no other way!" I burst out, standing up and kicking at the sand. "Don't you get it? This is my only chance! My only chance to ever see the people I care about again!"

The desperation in my voice silenced them. After a heavy moment, I found a large, dry piece of bark and, using the sharpened point of my claw, began scratching words onto its surface. When I was done, I folded it carefully and held it out to Pisti.

Her hand trembled slightly as she took it. "Shiro… are you sure about this?"

"This is the only way I'll ever get to go home," I said softly, my voice filled with a certainty that chilled them both.

We stood on the edge of the cliff overlooking the cove, the serpent still moving slowly below. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, calling on the storm within me.

A crackling aura of raw lightning exploded to life around me, growing bigger and more violent with every passing second. The air grew thick with the smell of ozone, and my hair began to stand on end.

"Do me a favor," I said, my voice already beginning to distort, taking on a low, static-filled rumble.

My eyes flickered, my normal color warring with a brilliant, electric yellow. I turned to look at them one last time, a feral grin on my face that was not entirely my own.

"And what's that?" Pisti asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"Run."

Without another word, I leaped from the cliff, plummeting toward the water serpent below.

As I fell, the clear sky above us instantly boiled over with black storm clouds.

A bolt of lightning tore through the air, striking the sea beside the beast and illuminating the scene in a blinding flash.

The serpent sensed me. Its armored head snapped up, and it lunged with impossible speed, its giant maw opening to swallow me whole.
