Chapter 437 - The Fall of House Durangor (Part 20)

Luna gasped for air, feeling her body begin to crumble under two forces beyond her comprehension...

The first was obvious, and she had braced heavily for it to affect her afterwards, which is why she had made using such an ability as a surefire last resort.

However, a new force had taken her completely by storm... One that she would have never expected no matter what had taken place in this battle.

But this...

Was beyond all possibility...

The power of Prometheus himself radiated throughout the crater, while agonizing flames began to shroud over ground in waves as Luna herself lost all control of her Dominion...

Thousands of fragments of metal began to rain down from above, while she could only fall to the ground, completely powerless in the face of this ancient power.

...

Equan turned, firing an arrow at Finnian before flipping over an incoming attack from Callahan himself.

Poppy's stand off had taken a turn for the worst after Vex finally caught her with a surely unblockable attack.

However, because this was Poppy: The Bastard of House Aries had somehow avoided fatal damage, twisting her body and falling to the ground, only having her left arm grazed by Vex's arc of energy.

Unfortunately that was where her honorable stand had come to an end, unable to change direction and completely stripped of energy...

Her crimson eyes shut.

"GET OFF OF ME!" Equan unleashed a vortex of lightning from the palm of his hand, ripping straight through all three knights of Vex, and following up with a powerful Axis twitch, sending not one... But two shockwaves through the air behind him.

Somewhere nearby, a mighty figure revealed a menacing smirk.

"Futile!" Vex roared, grabbing Equan by the throat and leaving Poppy to Callahan...

"I will deliver your head to The Grand Capital myself!" The titan roared as he hurled a barrage of metallic attacks towards Poppy as she hit the ground, her spear clattering against the ground, quickly rolling away from her reach.

Equan frantically tried summoning lightning into his hands, legs, or drawing it from the sky itself even.

However, a strange inferno had begun to tear through the battlefield... Sapping away at even Equan's strength...

A sigh escaped Volaris' ancient lips...

"I should have known..." He scowled, turning his back on the view of the battle and vanishing into the night...

...

Chase could feel it... Even in his horrible state...

A familiar presence was suffocating the air around him, but luckily... Chase's mind was already far too enchanted by the thought of battle to give in to such abnormalities...

All he wanted...

Was too survive...

And in doing so: Wiping that psychotic grin off The Vex's face.

His fist drove into the ground, trembling while forcing his bloodied face out of the puddle of his own.

His eyes glimmered as Vex parried an attack from Justin while holding Equan immobilized in his other hand.

'Just... One... More...' He thought, sensing the multiple energies running ramped through his veins...

He growled, shutting his eyes and driving his right foot into the ground allowing flames to begin leaking from his pores before...

BOOOOOOMMMM!

An entire chunk of the crater's floor erupted as Chase soared into domination, his axe appearing and spinning violently alongside him.

Vex turned his gaze, his grin only growing as Apocalypse tore straight through Vex's armor, meeting his sternum in a horizontal slash twice the output of anything he had ever produced before.

Vex's eyes widened in shock.

Chase trembled, his arms and face twitching as he held the axe firmly latched deep into Vex's flesh.

However, although he was sure he had struck his mark and permanently ended the power of Seh Jenah's Vex...

There was naught the crack of a Catalyst... Nor the show of any fear or worry on his face.

"H-How?" Chase gasped, releasing Apocalypse and stumbling backwards.

"I do commend your battle prowess. Although, in terms of true might... I am decades ahead of you..." Vex ripped the axe from his flesh, throwing it aside with pity in his tone.

That was when he spotted it...

Chase grimaced, staring at the trinket that Vex pulled from beneath his chestplate...

A shard of crystalized indigo energy... Hung around his neck like a decoration...

It began to glow.

And Chase felt the gravity of the crater shift, sending him slamming into the ground below.

The fire raged on, eating alive at everything it touched... And for a split second... Unity felt as if they were on their last leg.

Chase watched as Jackal leaped at Vex, going for a fatal blow upon his skull...

But meeting a terrible slash of energy... Cutting the Beast-kin in half as what was left of him fell to the ground...

"No..." Chase growled, drawing blood from his own gums and palms...

"Die!" Callahan roared as his greatsword descended on a weakened and defenseless Poppy...

CLANG!

Jacob appeared, getting knocked aside instantly by the sheer overwhelming strength of The Paladin.

Poppy dashed backwards, avoiding ranged attacks from both Callahan and Vex simultaneously.

The ground tore up behind her, and she barely managed to get behind a rock before Justin intervened again, summoning several giant chains of his own blood that shot towards the two Paladins.

But Vex easily swung his blade, dispersing the attack into clouds of red mist.

CLANG!

Brody's fist drove down into Callahan's helmet, knocking him back and staggering him.

CLANG!

Again, in a hopeless last ditch effort... Brody, Justin, and...

The ground quaked, a massive chasm ripping between Vex and Callahan... Separating their strongest fighters while leaving the strongest... For Hans himself...

"CALLAHAN!" A voice roared through the smoke... Amplified by a strange new energy that seemed unrecognizable for the remainder of the participants... However, Vex's eyes had widened, simply ignoring the spikes of rock that managed to miss him by a game of inches.

"Phillip did not mention this... I have a feeling that I'm overstepping my position here... You as well Callahan... Probably should not have gone as far as you have..." Vex muttered, a sense of satisfaction filling his injured body.

On the other side of the chasm...

"Callahan..." A voice growled... Almost as if a wild animal itself had gained the ability to speak while also being overcome with hunger...

Callahan took a step back, swatting Brody away with a wave while his vision tried to locate the voice in the smoke.

That is when he seen it...

They all seen it...

In the darkness of the torrent of smoke... A grotesque pair of flaming eyes and a sinister smile... Lit up the night with what could only be described...

As an origin of fire itself...
