Chapter 280 - Chapter 280

Taking a deep breath, Chase and Justin neared the final cell, walking quickly as they neared the barred door.

"Gemini!"

Chase couldn't help but yell as he slammed against the bars.

The energy signatures inside of the room were weak, but there were indeed three inside of it.

Although... As soon as Chase yelled the name, one of the signatures grew powerful...

In fact, it had been the strongest energy Chase had seen yet...

It was a strange purple hue, but not the same as Rider's, it was more of a lavender color, filled with rage and lust for revenge...

"Rayan..."

Chase muttered, looking at the powerful signature.

Justin quickly ran up to the door, bashing it in with his sword.

"Rayan! We came, come on! We gotta go!"

He frantically yelled, pulling the gate open with all of his might.

Then he hesitated.

"Rayan...?"

Chase scowled, tightening his grip on the blade, feeling a strange sense of Deja vu...

He did not know if he could take the warrior of the violet night... But he would avoid fighting no matter what.

Even if he was strong enough to face him, he did not want to waste his energy on a prisoner...

"Do not look at me!"

Rayan screamed, putting his hands around a strange collection of brown particles resting over his face.

Now that Chase looked closer, he could see... Pain...

"Wait Justin..."

Chase held a hand out...

Justin flinched at the strange energy Chase was emitting from his body, but nonetheless he did indeed listen to his king.

Chase stepped into the cell, looking down at the two signatures sitting back to back.

The one on the left was weak and almost unrecognizable, but he could tell by the strange sense of Aether exiting from her body.

"The seer?"

He asked quietly, looking down at the girl's little energy that was left in her near death body.

"Justin, go down the hall and to the North, there is an armory, gather what you can and return..."

"Y- Yes sir."

He said quickly, scurrying down the hall.

It wasn't long until Chase could hear the sounds of battle, as more guards met Justin.

Chase got down on one of his knees, looking up at the two figures.

"You cannot see..."

Rayan eventually muttered, as if in a daze.

"No... You can take off the bag..."

Hesitating, Rayan did eventually reach up as he lifted the bag off of his face.

Chase held out a hand, unsure if it would work.

He remembered the true meaning of the flames of Phoenix...

They were flames of life, of vigor...

"How close to death are they?"

Chase asked, feeling the familiarity of the situation set in.

He had once stood in the ruins of The Oasis, screaming as he tried anything above the dying body of Summer...

Rayan quickly replied, probably just now realizing it for himself.

"She hasn't let out a breath in a while, but she is still alive... I don't know how I know..."

Rayan said, his voice quivering in the dark room.

Chase shut his eyes, slowly setting his hand against the girl's shoulder.

"Flames of those who came before me... Grant me your purpose, replace my own life force with the fire that burned within my father... By the words of the last Phoenix... Burn with the truth of life once more..."

Orange light began to emit from the palm of his hand as it connected with the cold skin of the girl's shoulder.

He could see the particles that were not his own, they were warm and comforting as they entered the girl's body.

'Father...'

He thought, feeling his heart began to beat against his chest like a drum.

The power of the flames that he was not meant to posses began to cause ache within his soul. His very catalyst began to shutter from the force of another's affinity mixed in with his own.

For the first time, he truly began to accept that this was not the lineage that he was destined to carry the name of...

But slowly, the life force began to return to the girl's body.

He could see her very soul began to jolt awake as her heart kickstarted in a matter of seconds.

She let out a shaky breath as her body jolted forward.

"I- I! Ah!"

She frantically yelped, grabbing at the center of her chest.

Then Chase turned away, looking at the weak signature laying on the ground.

He knelt down next to his friend.

Setting his charred gloveless hand on the small of the boy's back.

He let the familiar energy return.

"Awake Gemini... You are not done living just yet..."
