Chapter 279 - Chapter 279

Hearing his own boot slap slowly against the wet pavement below him, couldn't even hide the sounds of death echoing from above the sewers.

Chase had went off on his own after surely sending his own soldiers to their demise.

It was funny how easily people would let a king lead them to their deaths.

Chase shook his head, trying to shake the terrible thoughts out.

But as he ventured further and further into the center of the city through the sewers, his heart only began to race more.

Though he had a very important stop before he arrived in Rider's chambers...

He slowly crept up a dark flight of stairs, hearing the chatter of two soldiers deeper into the cold halls.

He remembered this place vividly from his dream...

He just prayed that he wouldn't be too late...

'Hold out a little longer...'

He thought, drawing his sword from his sheathe as he neared the two men from behind.

"Let me tell ya, that girl with the green eyes! Ima get her one of these days. Just you wait m-"

Before he could finish speaking, Chase hadn't even bothered to use his own sword, as he ripped his bare hand straight through the chest of the soldier.

"Burn..."

He muttered, as flames began to eat the man out from inside his very flesh.

The other man frantically fell off of his chair, crawling backwards.

Although Chase didn't have the pleasure of seeing their fearful faces, he did get to watch as their life force diminished from their souls...

Which was arguably just as nice...

Once Chase was done with the first soldier, several more were hurrying down the halls after hearing the two terrible screams from the edge of the dungeon...

Chase slowly stepped forward, studying the man cowering against the stone wall on all fours.

He lifted his foot up casually, ignoring the hurried guards that were approaching.

He grinned wickedly, as a crunching noise followed the stomp of his boot...

"As if I would dirty my sword with the blood of mongrels..."

He put his sword back in its sheathe, after realizing that he would find no threats within the dungeon.

He outstretched his arms, welcoming the hesitant guards that continued to approach him.

"Do you know who I am?"

Chase asked, stopping the men in their tracks.

He felt giddy, watching their energy become so scrambled that he could tell several of them had pissed themselves.

Then the first guard charged him, which Chase simply lowered his head underneath the metallic particles, then immediately grabbed the man by the back of his tunic, ripping it free from his body.

The shirtless man fell to his knees, which Chase simply used a simple flick of his fingers as a small kindling shot towards the man.

In mere seconds, the guard was enveloped in flames...

He screamed, sure. But it didn't matter as the other men seemed fine with charging into death.

Which of course they did.

'Foolish slaves...'

He killed all of them slowly, leaving only their charred corpses in his wake as he began to unlock all of the cell doors.

Behind someone called out for him.

"Chase! Wait!"

It sounded like Justin of House Pice, although his energy was scrambled and crimson red...

Almost like blood...

Chase tilted his head, realizing that he had never learned what Justin's affinity truly was...

"What is it?"

He asked, wondering why one of his best fighters had abandoned his post.

"I- I need to open the last cellar..."

He had his hands on his knees, panting like a dog.

The general must have rushed his way over after evacuating all of the civilians that he could gather up...

"Fine, I need someone to escort the injured out anyway..."

Then the two of them began to unlock the cellar doors as they neared the final one.
