After a satisfying meal, Han Yu was about to clear the dishes when Quicksilver beat him to it, saying, "Leave the dishes to me. You go rest."
"I-"
Before Han Yu could utter another word, he blinked, and the dishes on the table vanished, the table wiped clean.
"With that speed, you'd make a great waiter," Han Yu chuckled. "You two can sleep in the rooms on the second floor, to the left. Room and board included, utilities free. You'll earn five thousand dollars a month. I'm in the first room on the left on the third floor. Come to me if you need anything. Is that acceptable?"
Quicksilver and Wanda stared at Han Yu for a few moments, scrutinizing his expression for any hidden motives. After five or six minutes of intense scrutiny, Han Yu felt a bit uneasy and asked, "What? Is it too little?"
Quicksilver quickly replied, "No, no. We just wanted to make sure you weren't a scammer. This is more than enough. We're very grateful!"
Five thousand dollars a month, room and board, utilities free—it all seemed too good to be true, especially coming from a fellow superhuman.
Overjoyed, the two immediately went to check out their rooms, and Han Yu advanced them their salaries so they could buy some essentials. He could have provided these things himself, but Han Yu was lazy and preferred giving them the money to do it themselves, which they happily accepted.
Late at night, Han Yu returned to his room and let out a long breath.
"System, settle the first task."
"Ding! Task completed: [Recruit two shop assistants from any world]!"
"Task reward: 30 upgrade points!"
"You now have 50 upgrade points, meeting the requirements for an upgrade. Would you like to upgrade?"
The sudden barrage of voices in his head caused Han Yu's lips to curl into a smile he couldn't suppress.
Why had he offered Wanda and Quicksilver such generous terms?
Because of this task!
Apart from the previous "Collect S-Rank Jutsu from the Naruto World" task, the system had assigned him this one: "Recruit two shop assistants."
While it seemed simple, every shop assistant recruited was bound to the system and could not leave unless the shop owner agreed.
However, even as the system's owner, Han Yu hadn't yet upgraded to become the shop owner.
Therefore, the shop assistants he recruited had to be unencumbered by worldly ties and possess considerable combat prowess.
Wanda and Quicksilver fit the bill perfectly. Apart from each other, they had no attachments in the world, and Wanda possessed formidable magic, making her an ideal candidate.
Though she hadn't yet unlocked her full potential, Han Yu intended to help her do so.
"Upgrade immediately!"
Currently, Han Yu was a "Senior Shop Assistant" in the tavern's hierarchy. With this upgrade, he would become a "Junior Shop Owner." Each significant upgrade granted him a basic ability, and his first upgrade as a "Junior Shop Assistant" had given him the formidable "Immortal Seal." He wondered what he would receive this time.
The Tavern System responded immediately, and half a second later, the system's emotionless voice echoed in Han Yu's mind.
"Upgrade successful! Current position: 'Junior Shop Owner'!"
"Upgrade reward received!"
Several strands of light converged on Han Yu's palm, forming a purple conch shell slightly larger than his hand.
"Haha, I got an item? What is this... A magical conch shell? A conch shell, huh? Not bad. Wait, what is this?"
"A magical conch shell...?"
Han Yu stared dumbfoundedly at the purple shell in his hand. This wasn't a mere coincidence of names; it was an actual conch shell, albeit thicker than usual.
"Magical, my *ss!"
Han Yu angrily tossed the magical conch shell onto the ground. Wasn't this the prop from the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants? How could this be an upgrade reward?
The shell hit the floor with a few crisp sounds but remained unscathed.
Han Yu was on the verge of tears. All his hard work and effort upgrading, only to end up with such a "useless" item?
In an online game, this would be like a player using accumulated materials to craft a weapon, only to accidentally downgrade their legendary weapon into a basic white weapon. Who wouldn't be devastated?
"The magical conch shell possesses the ability to comprehend all knowledge of past and present. Simply infuse your consciousness and ask the conch in the form of a question, and you will receive the answer you seek. This applies to both the otherworld and the main world!"
The system's voice suddenly interrupted Han Yu's thoughts, and he snatched up the magical conch shell with lightning speed. By the time a normal person's eyelids had barely finished blinking, he had already retrieved it.
"Why does this system have to drag its feet like that? If it had said that earlier, I wouldn't have almost broken it."
Han Yu carefully brushed off the dust from the magical conch shell, examining it for any damage.
"Knock, knock, knock."
A gentle knock sounded at the door. Han Yu stowed the conch shell back into his system storage and called out, "The door's open. Come in!"
The door swung open, revealing Wanda standing there. She wore a white nightgown, her hair gently wafting in the breeze after her ablutions, carrying a faint fragrance. Her stunning figure was outlined perfectly by the sheer nightgown.
"Is everything okay? Did you need something?"
Han Yu was indeed taken aback by Wanda's appearance, but he had seen enough to maintain his composure, allowing the fleeting admiration in his eyes to dissipate quickly.
"Ah, no, I just wanted to thank you for taking us in."
Wanda placed her hands behind her back and walked in slowly, her voice soft and melodious.
Smelling the fragrant breeze that wafted towards him, Han Yu maintained his composure and smiled, "How can you say it's 'taking us in'? You're working for me, doing tasks in exchange for wages, food, and shelter. You should say I'm a competent boss."
Wanda approached Han Yu, gazing at his youthful and handsome face. Even dressed as she was tonight, Han Yu's eyes remained as clear as the moment they first met.
Wanda knew that talking about working was just a facade. Although she didn't know Han Yu's true intentions, she had yet to witness any malice from him.
He had simply helped them out of the blue, a kind of man she had never encountered before.
Noticing that the other person kept staring at her without speaking, even Han Yu felt a bit uneasy, despite his usual composure. He cleared his throat and said, "Ah, right. You're not yet proficient with your abilities, are you? Let me help you develop them?"
"Develop? How?"
Han Yu's topic shift was abrupt, but Wanda noticed and didn't push for anything immediate. She simply followed his lead.
"Hehe, just as I've recently acquired a treasure. Let's see if it works!"
Han Yu took out the magical conch shell he had obtained during his upgrade and addressed it in front of Wanda, "How can Wanda master all of her abilities?"
As soon as the words left his lips, the magical conch shell suddenly emitted dazzling light, which converged into lines of text floating in mid-air.
"Regarding the question 'How can Wanda master all of her abilities?', the most effective current method is to create a Green Lantern sub-ring that establishes a connection with Wanda's Chaos Magic, relying on the Green Lantern ring's willpower to suppress the instability of Chaos Magic."
"Usage Note: The instability of Chaos Magic will initially be borne by the holder of the Green Lantern master ring. If the holder cannot withstand it, the backlash will be transmitted in equal measure to the owner of the sub-ring!"
Wanda came to stand beside Han Yu, reading the words displayed by the magical conch shell together. She sighed, "What's a Green Lantern ring? I don't have one, and what's Chaos Magic? Isn't this just a simple superpower?"
Han Yu waved his hand, erasing the text in mid-air, and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Your superpower is known as 'Chaos Magic.' It's not an ordinary superpower but a supremely powerful magic that can affect the universe and even the multiverse."
"My magic is so powerful?"
Wanda found it hard to believe. She had heard of the concept of the multiverse, where there were other universes identical to their own. But she could only control objects to fly or attack with energy. Claiming that she had the power to influence the entire universe, let alone the multiverse, seemed far-fetched.
